Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

It doesn't really work at all on higher NG+ levels.

Once I got to about NG+3/4 I had to start carrying multiple varieties of my main weapons because they all broke faster than I could ever realistically reach a bonfire in any instance.

Why would you do that when you can just buy repair powders in the castle? Use whatever you want.

It's quite possible there'll be a steam discount for existing owners.

Personally, I'll be buying it again either way. Loved DS1 sure, but totally love DS2 too.. enough so that I did a no death, no bonfire, lvl 1, just fists run.

Question, did you use and upgrade your cestus? Or just go plain fists?

It's not economical at all. Burning through 3 repair powders or more per bonfires due to durability being set at 3x for your weapon of choice (contrary to popular belief, the glitch is nowhere near consistent on how it affects each weapon) is actually much, much more expensive than just leveling out three or so versions of each weapon. This isn't even getting into the fact that I don't even think it's possible to carry that much repair powder because you'd run out about halfway back to that point in the game or earlier depending on your choice of weaponry.

If this is just a money grab and PC is getting screwed, then it is curious why we haven't seen a steep discount on DS2 during any Steam Sale to setup double dips. Maybe they are holding off to do a big push when this version comes out.

So... play at 30fps like you're supposed to. =P

I've done both methods. NG+ becomes doable if you get the covenant upgrade as well.

Holy crap! Don't the bosses take a while to beat down?

Also if there's no extra content or graphical upgrade why buy the new version?
As mentioned by another post, the lower stamina consumption makes it doable (possibly far more doable at level 1 than using weps at level 1).

As for why to buy the new version? I love everything souls, and new graphics/more robust multiplayer/etc? It may make for a new experience.

Well... This is great for people who held off on buying the game. The rest of us? Fucked over. There is no way I'm buying into this crap.

i bought both dark souls 1 and 2. never buying another one of these games again

there's a reason many people didn't buy a ps3 or xbox 360 and went to steam for their games. these shit publishers/developers never learn. rather than supporting the platforms accordingly and stopping with the nickel and dime shit, they'd rather try to fuck over a new audience instead. you'll see where that takes you

So there is a DX9 (current PC version)
PS3
Xbox 360 version

All above being patched to include new characters and story events. Will not include graphical (remaster upgrades)

PS4
X1
DX11 (new PC version)
all 3 new DLC etc from the youtube vid:

I actually bought DS2 on PS3 and stopped fairly early in because the PS4 came out, looking forward to playing it. Question for me will be do I play it on PC or PS4 when it releases... with DX11 support I wonder if all that amazing lighting is back :)

I kind of get why people are having a conniption about the PC version, but I see little difference in why the "REMASTER" version (inc all DLC/ better graphics/New NPC or enemy locations + story) on PC shouldn't be charged at a full price and other platforms should, I own it on PS3, so should that mean I should get it for PS4 for free also? I have no idea how they could implement that.

-Biggest defence is the graphics where not as advertised, that was the same for everyone though, graphics aside, there are other goodies inc in the DLC, so that cannot be the focus.

-Upgrade/discount price for everyone, not just PC would be great but would mean you have to distinguish people with and without DLC, so there would be upgrade price and upgrade price + DLC? (I could well buy DS2 on PC)
-Full price for everyone else, first time owners on any platform.
-The Split on different platforms, ps3,ps4,x1,x360, PC - are likely in existance not just because..reasons.. but likely due to NPC locations, spawn points, map layout and anything else they include in the remaster, you can't sync 2 games with differences.

I wonder if the new vanilla DX11 version will look better than the DX9 version with ENB. Somehow, I doubt it.

That said, DX11 with ENB enabled will be the new best looking version, eventually.

As an existing PC version owner, I might even have bought into the new graphics if the upgrade had been priced modestly, but after asking full price for it Namco can fuck right off, imo.

'enemy game design modifications' does that mean 'shit we should have patched but didn't'?

Unless it was hardware specific, ie old-gen consoles couldn't do it. It seems there was a Last-Gen game target with DX9 PC release, new version seems the definitive original design choice, not held back by old hardware imo.

Considering every other Souls game on console is 30fps, I'm gonna take a guess and say 1080p/30 and we will be really lucky if it's actually 30.

Usually though in the past, the game was made with that gen ground up. NextGen consoles should easily be able to handle the game even with the upgrade visuals, ie TLOU:R 60fps. I would guess DS3 (should it release nextgen, would fit that 1080/30fps, but im expecting 1080/60fps for the DS2 Remaster)

(obv nextgen, is now currentgen but makes for easier description)

Yeah, but criticism is one thing, companies just often shrug them off, there SHOULD have been a major class action lawsuit against Namco/Fromsoft for this behavior to ensure it never happens again, and sends a message to any other other dev/pub this nonsense isn't going to be tolerated.

But...that's why I don't consider the Souls community a real "community" aka one which stands together despite different tastes and recognizes bullshit behavior like that and takes decisive action...
A class action lawsuit over a downgrade(something that simply happens in game development sometimes)? Fuck me, gamers have fucking lost it.

The game had preview footage from the 'real' game a month ahead of release. A class action has no chance whatsoever. Buyer beware. If you choose to go on media blackout, you give up your right to be compensated for changes ahead of release.

There were also tons of screenshots for months before the game came out showing what the game looked like.

If they wanna charge for it? Fine. But make it DLC Nr.4, Charge $15 for it and I would pay it. But splitting the user base and basically full price? Just fuck off FROM!

If the added content is significant enough, I wouldn't mind at all paying for it as DLC. But having two separate versions and expecting me to re-buy the game entirely (after having already purchased the base game and all DLC) is terrible. I said it before in this thread, but seriously - these guys can go get fucked.

It's funny how psyched everyone was for Dark Souls 2 before release, myself included. Then the game came out and everyone realized it was just a shitty sequel with none of the stuff that made Dark Souls 1 and even Demon's Souls so special.

Everyone? Many of us loved it, thanks. For some it's even their favourite in the series.

I can't believe that talking about the "downgrade" is still a thing, let alone saying there should have been a lawsuit. It's actually insane. Really wouldn't fault anyone for not wanting to be a game developer when this is how consumers act...

I disagree, most don't have huge graphics upgrades when they run at 60fps, they are just 1080p with some minor upgrades. When they have, they haven't run at locked 60, see Tomb Raider or Halo 2 Anniversary.

So it depends on the level of the graphical upgrade IMO.

The same goes the other way around, who would be a gamer? Being lied to is not cool, especially at the price of some games nowadays. There is so little clarity for us, the customers, just look at last year as a prime example.

On the PC, they better have a discount for those who already have the previous version (like how it happened with the Metro Redux games), otherwise no buy for me (at most I'll wait for a steam sale/75% discount).

y'all drinking some major antifreeze

What do you mean should have, why should we have anything patched? What's with this idea that they owe us anything in regards to new stuff?

They're giving away the actual new stuff for free (I.E gameplay and story related content) but keeping improvements behind a paywalll.

Okay not to single you out or anything but this sentiment is so lame. If you were truly cost conscious you would practice as some do and never buy a game until it's GOTY edition. Is there a history or announced plan for DLC? They will rerelease it later- at full price!

I'm okay with you singling my post out, I agree it is lame. Its not how I feel, I was just taking it from one extreme (the quote in my post) to the other for a point. Both are lame in my opinion, but I do wish there were more clarity for customers.

Translated interview dropping bombs.

http://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/comments/2nqqjm/famitsu_interview_tanimura_refers_to_ability_to/

-NG will be able to play with NG+
-Soul Memory can be tampered with
-Time restrictions on mp will be more lax
-Rewards for completing your mp missions will be changed
-They want the Next gen version to look as good as the PC version they haven't mentioned the PC versions looking any better.
-number of enemies, placements and routes will be different they stated. Citing last gen hardware as a reason they couldn't make them more complex.

Yeah cause the one thing this game needed was even more mobs. :/

Same here, what an bullshit.
- First they promise us an amazing game, the final product is missing a lot of things from the reveal.
- Then they say DS2 will launch as a complete game no need for DLC, then they laucnh 3 DLCs and the 4th one is coming
- And now....the full price for PC gamers and more bullshit

So disappointed in FromSoftware

Im more dissapointed at those assholes who defended the false marketing near the DS2 release. It's obvious that companies will do this if the people eat it all up. Though i did not expect it to get this bad.

I thought it was a "design" decision because people said they had shown the previous lighting build running on PS3 and stuff, so it could have been done.

We'll see how the next gen versions go, if they do use the original lighting or not.

The geometry itself was made different. Even if it was a design decision, it's still bullshit marketing when the final product looks like it was generations apart from the showed gameplay.(Not that i believe that excuse) Steam official screenshots were only changed to the current version at the request of someone on this forum. Seems like they were in no hurry to communicate said changes. The notion that game design should be allowed to be the excuse for sub-par products is getting tiresome.

allowing players to self-adjust their total accumulated souls
Seems pointless, not even sure what it means - obviously it doesn't mean with concerns to the actual souls you have so why not just ditch soul memory altogether since they're admitting that it was a terrible idea in the first place.

That is "new stuff" too, that they are charging full price for it is a whole other matter, but calling it a paywall is misleading. As the notion of calling a class suit over the "downgrade" the outrage over this cashgrab is out of proportion.

Christ almighty the entitlement in this thread.

I'd totally understand the outrage if the original DS2 wasn't completely packed with content and they cut the game in half or into thirds and sold each one for $60.

But they didn't. They released yet another outstanding action RPG that by most accounts took somewhere between 30 to 80 hours for most of us to complete.

Compared to your average 3rd person AAA shoot bang the amount of content and playtime was about as strong a value in gaming as you're likely to find, outside waiting for price drops or collections.

We gave them our money, they gave us a content packed game. Sounds like a good deal.

If when evaluating the DX11 version of the game, if you don't find what they're offering to be a compelling value, don't purchase it. And I totally understand where people who have already played the original game and the expansions might come to that conclusion. But where you lose me is when you expect this content without any additional payment because you bought the original game a year ago.

You're like the people that get all butt hurt every time a new video format is released. I'M NOT GOING TO BUY ALL MY OLD MOVIES AGAIN!!!! Ok, don't. Nobody is saying you have to, your old movies will still play.

I'm just seeing a lot of tantrums from gamers who actually love DS2 but can't bring themselves to admit it and want more of that experience at no additional cost.

Don't think it's a good value? Don't buy it. The outrage isnt necessary.

I don't get why people are upset here, so they are releasing a remaster with all DLC/enhanced graphics on PS4/Xbone/PC. We had remasters before so why the outrage for this game?

I do understand people upset at the PC version not getting a patch to get the graphic enhancements for free but other then that this seems normal.
