You guys are right: Bolin is more of a trope than a character. The same can be said of every major character aside from like Tenzin and maybe Korra, mostly because they don't get enough screen time to flesh them out.

for someone who's been pretty fantastic the whole time, janet varney sounded totally lost in that recap episode. hard to blame her, I guess, trying to make some of those "remember when this happened?" lines come off as natural must have been rough.

wish I was enjoying the season more. it's not as bad as season two, but unless there's a huge jump in quality at the end it'll be a pretty disappointing way to go out. not sure what the consensus is, though, so maybe a lot of you are liking it.

I don't like passing judgement on a season until the very end, personally. I'm used to slower paced series so I'm liking it alright.

I mean, now that Korra has her mojo back, she can basically one shot Kuvira right? That's probably why they're delaying the next confrontation.

Unless Kuvira gets her deterrent in the form of nuclear spirit bomb.

Kuvira was a red herring the whole time.

After dispatching Kuvira with ease, Chikorita-bean spirit will turn its wrath upon all of humanity for harvesting spirit vines from the great Banyan-grove tree.

They completely ruined any character development Bolin made during the last few episodes during this one. Is it really that hard to make him funny without looking like an idiot?

I agree. It's a real shame because I thought he was great especially during the episode before the clip show.

The writers don't seem to have an idea on how to write the puppy character. They had it at first in season 1, but then season 2 they ruined it. It's stress inducing that they refuse to write him like a human being.

I genuinely have the pause the video when I'm watching because I'm cringing so hard that I have to watch it in several doses.

He was great in the escape episode. I really thought they were going to turn him around.

I really love shorter hair Korra. Looks so much better in motion than I thought it would.

Yeah Nick ain't the best at hiding spoilers. Though at least it hasn't got quite as bad when Nick put a big spoiler gif of Zaheer killing the Earth Queen on it's site a couple of days before the episode aired during Book 3.

I remember that too. Those assholes spoiled that moment for me as well -_-

Thinking about just stop liking them on FB but the series is pretty much over as well.

I've always viewed Bolin as having a mental disorder like ADHD.

Anyway, he is probably going to be great in the next episode because the Beifongs will be insulting him the whole time plus we'll see him lavabend some more.

So one of the storyboard artists for Korra has an interesting theory about Ming Hua.

So you know when Asami electrocuted that guard in the chest in the book 3 finale? Did she actually kill him? Or will we never know..

No, I don’t think so. It’s like a taser thing, it knocks people out. In fact, when I storyboarded Mako and Ming Hua, I was very careful to show she was breathing afterwards. I’m not sure why that wasn’t animated… perhaps an oversight? Or a change made after I left? But I don’t believe Mako killed her either.
If they’re dead, it’s because Ghazan brought the mountain down.
That’s my understanding anyway. For the gospel truth you need to go to Mike or Bryan of course.

Hmm, interesting.

Pretty sure she's dead though.

Hahah yeah Ming Hua and Ghazan are most definitely dead except for maybe in the dreams of Zaheer. Just interesting that he thinks it wasn't Mako who gave the final death blow to Ming Hua. Then again it's not like Mako has shown any signs suffering or regret over what occurred.

Hypothetic sad scene: Ming Hua can't get out of the rubble, so she goes into the spirit world. She has always enjoyed going to the spirit world because she has her arms there. She sees Zaheer, who is trying to contact Red Lotus contacts. She goes and talks to him, and he says he's going to intensify his search so he can help her out. Ming Hua instead tells him to not bother, and that he's supposed to be detached anyway. They instead stay together for the next few hours, as Ming Hua slowly dies under the rubble.

even if they weren't originally planned to be dead, might as well be dead now considering their characters serve no purpose this late in the show

Ghazan is totally going to appear in the finale to Bolin as his Jedi ghost and give him a wink "You are the chosen one Bolin! Destroy Kuvira and bring balance to the world"

Korra would have been such an interesting avatar if it was Red Lotus vs White Lotus thing for season 1... Korra being the Red Lotus avatar who sees the light of things and starts to path of redemption.

Then end the series with Amon trying bring equality due to terrible nature of Korra.

Korra the Fallen Hero goes against her mentor and defeats Red Lotus from within...

Seriously, all 4 season's have been terrible in terms of writing.

Season 3 > Season 1 (minus the rushed ending) > Season 4 (so far, too slow paced) > Season 2

I agree with you, but I feel due to the piecemeal way in which each series has been commissioned that it left the creators in a bit of a tough spot. The idea of the Red Lotus and Unaloq having been a former member was probably not conceived initially, so they kind of retroactively have to make these things seem like they fit together. Given that, and given the series have encompassed four separate antagonists, I think they've done a pretty good job overall.

I agree with your series ratings too. Season 1 was really good, except the ending with Aman being able to block chi because obviously he could. Season 4 is good but like you say the plot is taking too long to go anywhere, but I will reserve final judgement until it's all done with.

Like someone else mentioned, they couldn't go with an Ozai-style overarching nemesis because of the way it was commissioned and developed, which is a shame. But Kuvira and Zaheer have been pretty good villains nonetheless.

Nice to hear about a new ATLA comic coming up.. titled Smoke & Shadow. Coming out September 2015 though.
We are getting some Fire Nation focus this time around, The Legend of Korra lacked that.

Season isn't over yet.
If they don't talk about her being an orphan or if her background doesn't start getting fleshed out I'm rioting. They're bringing together all of the Bei Fongs on Friday. Somebody needs to really ask Suyin what the hell is Kuvira's problem. Because nobody just throws people in reeducation camps because it's fun. There's got to be more to it than that. If she's just evil to be evil then they really should've written her like this guy:

Aww yes. I hope they fill the whole gap between ATLA and Korra with stories.

Man, if they didn't kill the other villains off and if Korra wouldn't be Korra, there could've been a great moment in the finale where the big bads of the last seasons appear to help the avatar, seeking redemption and having seen that their goals were noble, but on the wrong way.

For as awesome as Toph was in the OG show.

Her entire family just sucks so much. Every single one.

Down to her shithead grandsons and fishface Opal.

I know they had to give her an actual character this season, but why did it have to be...that?

I know right, there were far better and more options on the table.

HEY! Huan is pretty cool. Agreed with the rest though.

Gene Yang: Well, I'm excited about this one. When I was watching the show, my favorite character was Zuko. We left Zuko out of "The Rift" because he took up so much of the focus of "The Search," and now we're bringing the books back to Zuko and the Fire Nation. The story will begin with Zuko bringing his mom and his mom's family back to the Fire Nation for the first time since the end of the show. It actually ties in to the Free Comic Book Day story from two years ago -- the very first one that we did -- which was focused on Mai, Zuko's ex-girlfriend. In that story, Mai discovers that her father is the head of this secret society that's bent on removing Zuko from the throne. It's called the New Ozai Society, and they will be the focal point of the first book. It'll be all about how Zuko deals with rebellion and this group, the New Ozai Society, that's bent on getting him off the throne.

Ahhhhh! I've been wanting a plot like this for awhile now.

Super excited for this~

Absolutely, opinions can change. I'm just going by what I would think if the season ended right then and there.

I dont have much hope for the rest of the season at this point.
Kuvira has not done anything, she is just dull,at this point im beggining to think she is a little overrated because she is female.

But who knows, maybe the last episodes are of the best in the series, it has to be something special.

Edit: then again this is a problem of all the characters/show, so im wrong, its just that she barely appears or does anything interesting since the first episode, her speech before taking over , and defeating weak Korra.

I really do hope they don't pull something weird like Sokka is one of the parents. I feel like it'd be more likely that she got together with two dudes not from the first series.

If anything I want them to pull something impossibly weird, like saying the Unagi or Hei Bei is one of the daddies, or that theory that the daughters are actually golems carved from Earth.
