Gematsu: Sony to hold Playstation Experience event in December

Celebrating 20 years or having nostalgia goggles doesn't somehow make Shenmue 3 a good idea. I grew up with Crash. I have incredibly fond memories of playing that game with my friends and family. But I could give a shit about a new Crash game. Fun police or not.

As a consumer, Shenmue III is a great idea, especially if you've played the two masterpieces that came before it and need to know what happens after that huge cliffhanger. If I were working for Sony on the other hand, it would be a risky project to fund, but weren't you the one just now bemoaning how risk averse publishers are?

An idea so bad that it's literally more risky than a new IP. That's actually sorta genius.

All you guys fail to see the obvious hidden message here.

You take the first letters from each line, and you end up with

OP AUT IO BOMKH, which is similar kind of non-language that they spoke in ICO. So this absolutely must mean that The Last Guardian has been renamed, and now we know its new name.

THE LAST GUARDIAN CONFIRMED!

MIKU TO B A HOOP

BOOM TIKU PHAO

UH KABOOOM TIP

... Ill see myself out

My predictions for the revival of an old school IP.

1. Crash Bandicoot

Because it is the most requested.

2. Parappa The Rapper

Because Shawn Layden mentioned it recently in an interview to Wired.
“Of course, now everyone wants me to bring out Parappa the Rapper,” he said. “Which we are looking at. But that’s a more complex rights package.”

FF VII: R is technically not an IP so I don't really see it for the PSX event TBH. Neither for any of the third party one. But Sony do have plenty of first party IPs from the PS1 era including Wild Arms, Arc the Lad, Ape Escape and more.

I'm still wondering if Sony is finally going to show those already announced, but MIA PS4 games.

I mean, what the hell ever happened to friggin Shadow of the Beast? That game was announced in August of last year and hasn't been seen nor heard from since.

OH and what about Everybody's Going to the Rapture? We've seen practically squat from that in the time since it was first shown.

Bloody hell, the fun police just showed. Its an event celebrating 20 years in the game. I would be disappointed if nostalgia goggles weren't on and revival IP wasnt mentioned.
Exactly!
New IP's are great. But fans want new games of their favorite franchises/IPs, too.
Imagine a Nintendo console without Mario/Zelda.
The "Crash Bandicoot IP ownership dilemma" still hurts to this day.
PlayStation is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. It's the perfect time for lifelong fans to talk about Crash Bandicoot.
It's PlayStation's first mascot. They love him. And they want him back... in Sony's hands!

Follow their twitter. They are pretty open about their development of the game.

Is it that hard to overlook a couple of games that you don't want and focus on the ones you do? Your entire argument circles around "People shouldn't want things I don't want". Think about that

I can't wait for this event. I'm a little excited but not hyped. :)

I would also love to see Shenmue, Syphon Filter and The Getaway back, but I don't think that will happen for a long while sadly.

My guess is that Shadow of the Beast probably increased in scope so it's taking longer.

Top-tier in terms of video game announcements as you can get? Shenmue and Crash? In what universe? I get that some element of hype and megatonnage come in the context of franchise which already exist for obvious reasons, but It annoys me that we only a year into this generation and this thread seems to be dominated by wanting games that are literally older than some posters in this thread. I get it's much harder to elaborate upon your desire for games which don't exist (new IPs), but it's disconcerting when people are given free range to really request whatever nonsensical fantasy they can think of people jump to sequels, reboots, and remakes. It makes me question which party is more risk averse: publishers or consumers.

For what it's worth, I agree with you that Shenmue 3 would not necessarily be a good investment - at the very least they should make a Shenmue 1 & 2 HD collection to test the waters for the franchise's popularity, but I don't think it will ever be more than niche, and not capable of recouping its significant development costs.

However, I think a new Crash would create a lot of hype, although it depends who's developing and what the gameplay's like. I think it would need to move on from the highly linear gameplay of the original trilogy, but I didn't play the others after that. Personally, if Sony got back the Crash license I'd prefer to see a new Crash Team Racing instalment, probably developed by Sumo.

But you are being a bit of a sourpuss. You don't want a new Crash or Shenmue; we get that. But you don't need to keep reiterating it. Does it bother you so much that other people do want these sequels?

Also, as a closing thought, Sony have shown with the PS4 that it's a very good idea to appeal to the hardcore crowd first, and then mainstream success will follow, so from that perspective bringing back some niche hardcore IPs might be a good idea for their ripple effect, rather than perhaps their direct sales numbers.

No, it doesn't. I've elaborated in greater detail previously in this thread. Plus, even if people don't like what I have to say, a good portion of this thread consists of people photoshopping their avatars onto an image of Kaz's face in the sky. So who cares, really.

Awwww yeaaahhh, blow that game up and make it a whole damn world to live in, release on disk and charge full price, I AM BUYING
that limited special edition with T-shirt XD

Sony trying to steal the thunder eh?
Not hard to do because The Game Awards looks like VGX

Eh Geoff is really trying to create something special with this, something similar in tone to the TLoU feature he did awhile back, so definitely not like VGX. I do hope Sony doesn't one up him and play a trailer or reveal that was originally intended for his show, dude has paid for this production out of pocket, he needs some good reveals.

Ugh. Okay then…

The media thing will probably be embargoed. I don't expect any real news from it besides some hypes journous..

Ahhh good point

OK, train #3 it is.

You can start applying for ticket now, but I will start photoshoping tomorrow morning after a good night sleep. If I managed to singlehandedly create Bloodbourne hype train pic, I will [hopefully] be able to manage this also! :D

If someone wants to start photoshoping immediately, here is the PSD. Make sure you reupload newer versions when you are done, and leave placements on Meteors for insiders/mods. :D

I'm off to sleep.
One ticket please!

Just because you don't care don't attempt to put others down for wanting a new crash game.
I for one would love a new Crash game. Why? Because those games were fun until Naughty Dog stop making them. Crash team racing is still the best fun I had with a Kart racing game.

I would love a new Legend of Dragoon, Megaman Legend 3, Wild Arms, .hack, etc. A FF 7 remake would probably never live up to my expectation. Doesn't stop me from wanting it to happen.

I'm also looking forward to TLG, Order, WiLD, Bloodborn, Helldrive, etc which are all new IP's.

Just because YOU are not interested in certain games, don't be negative about them. I sure you are excited for games that other don't care about.

But isn't your elaboration for not wanting something like Crash based on the fact you think nobody wants it?

It's only anecdotal evidence and I'm not using this to suggest Crash would suddenly be a 5m+ retail success, but I'm a "gamer" (whatever that means) in a large friends circle of folks who haven't really played many or any games since we were kids with the PS1. Crash Bandicoot is the game that gets talked about and the game I get asked about more than any other. By miles. I know people who would buy a PS4 if there was a new Crash Bandicoot on it.

Like I say, anecdotal. But I can't imagine that's exclusive to the group of people I know either. The amount of times Crash gets mentioned in threads like this or ANY thread with references back to the PS1 suggests there's hunger for a return, and I'd argue not just in traditional hardcore circles either.

I would just stop and move on.

There is a ban on dualshockers??

What the h*** happened there??

Around pre-E3 period, they posted too many 'fake rumour/list' as news.

Stuff that were obviously super fake were posted up, giving notoriety to stuff that was laughable at best.

I think it's somewhat undeserved, and they've largely stopped doing it anymore anyway.

Yeah.
I think both of you are right.

It's a anniversary celebration, that's the first thing. So you can't go and ask them only to show us new things and new IPs. It's supposed to be about these 20 years of gaming.

Obviously the Playstation path still goes beyond this point and there's a lot to be walked and there's room for all in here.

I expect them to show us a lot of nostalgic videos (the PSX start up should be the first thing in the conference), a new game with and old IP (rebooted) for the old PS gamers, but at the same time, new things for all the actual gamers (oldest and newcomers).
