Who will have the biggest E3 surprise?

They're the most quiet of any of the big three. Not a peep out of them aside from Yoshida retweeting the date for their conference. Even Nintendo is making more noise than Sony.

This begs one simply question: WHY?

Why is Sony so reticent and taciturn? I don't see why they've been so hesitant to be more forthcoming.

Are they trying to withhold their big secrets or is there truly nothing behind the curtain and they are just trying to conceal something that isn't there.

Microsoft is announcing their next 4 years worth of games to bring people back into the fold.
Doesn't matter whether a game is coming out in 2014, 2015, 2016 or 2017... it's getting announced.
They want that core gamer back, damn it.

Hard to tell.. I hope WiiU or PS4. Since those are the two consoles i have.
But i think MS will be trying to really convince us the XboxOne will be having some must have games.

My guess will be XboxOne.

I feel like we know so many unreleased games for Wii U as it is so I don't think there will be much on that front outside of showing what the new Zelda will look like (and FExSMT tho who knows when they show it). When E3 comes we are still waiting for Bayo 2, X, Yarn Yoshi, Zelda, FExSMT, Smash and they JUST got MK8 out. There is a lot of baggage from last year carrying over.

The interesting thing to look foreward to is what they have to show for 3DS methinks. Do we know anything from Nintendo outside of Pokemon remakes coming? (edit: and Smash, forgot about that one.)

Well, I guess the QOL stuff could be surprising?

Back to the topic: I think MS will have the biggest surprise this year. Some third party deal I'd imagine.

But even then Bayo 2 is by Platinum, Smash Bros is by Namco Bandai, Hyrule Warriors is by Omega Force/Team Ninja, SMTxFE is by Atlus, Yarn Yoshi is by Good Feel, and on the 3DS side there's just Pokemon by Game Freak and then Smash Bros again.

We practically know nothing of what Nintendo's first party teams are working on other than X by Monolith and Zelda. I feel we'll get at least a few new big games. Something by Intelligent Systems I'd almost guarantee.

Sony with The Last Guardian
One and done, if Sony shows it off with some substantial content and not just another teaser the show is theirs.

I dunno. Nice though it is, they need to be very careful around the idea of "You know that game you bought a PS3 for? Now you get to buy a PS4 for it as well!".

I want to see the game badly, but it's a hand they need to play with great care, because poorly-handled, it could be PR poison.

Evilore will announce in a surprise keynote address that Gaf will be running e3 from now on. The whole media pass thing was a ploy to lull e3 into a false sense of security.

If it is a surprise how would we know?

This logic makes no sense to me. Surprises work in two ways. Either you didn't know the company was capable of it (out of left field), or you didn't think they would actually do it (FF13 to 15). Most surprises are the latter, where we can surmise that, for instance, Sony can create god of war with the Egyptian pantheon, but we don't expect them to do it.

Hence, surprise.

I think MS will have the biggest one. I'm betting in something Capcom old Ip related or some amazing Japanese studio.

TLG is to be expected if Sony doesn't want to "lose" E3. Even if it is a small teaser.

Well we kind of know what MS has for the next 3 years thanks to various leaks. The big question is who will they moneyhat to try dig themselves out of their current hole? Could be something huge!

Sony is still a bit of a mystery I guess. That could be good because they are keeping secrets are bad because they have nothing coming soon we dont already know about.
They have never really done big moneyhats outside of shitty pre order level DLC so I dont expect that to change.

The real mystery and potential "fuck yeah" reveals is third parties. Whats coming out the 12-18 months? Outside of the normal annual franchises its a bit of a mystery.

How badly are they going to mess up Next Gen Deus Ex?
Whats going on with Final Fantasy 15?
When are we going to see the first next gen Star Wars games?
Whats the next stop on the stupid train that is Metal Gear Solid 5?

These are the big questions I am looking forward to answering.

Yoshida said this in April

Some of the things that we are preparing for E3 are very, very exciting

So I was wrong about them being completely quiet. But they're probably the biggest unknown right now. We've seen or heard about some of what MS or Nintendo are planning, but Sony is playing it quiet for the most part.

I am most interested in Nintendo's showing. Giving us examples on why the controller is necessary has me exited. I was hoping Microsoft would do the same but that is a looking like a pipe dream and I doubt Sony will focus on VR as that would be a PR nightmare. They have to outdo Microsoft for the classic gamer for hype, free marketing, and more. You can't preview VR online.

Does anyone outside of specific hardcore video game forums actually want The Last Guardian? I don't even know what's so special about it apart from the fact it's been delayed a lot.

Just one of those 'myths' in gaming...is it cancelled or not...WE WANNA KNOW!!! DX

I thinK MS has the best POTENTIAL.

Whether they deliver on it or not .. that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

Sony has The Order as an anchor for the fall, so definitely expecting less from them.

Really want a good Nintendo announcement, but they're coming off the back of a release heavy May.

Microsoft I don't know, they seemed to have revealed a bunch of their E3 conference in panic because their console is selling very poorly.

I'll go with Nintendo I guess, like usual we'll most likely be talking about a "gameplay" (ie an in engine demo presented in a touched up way that you know it will not actually play like that) trailer of a 3rd party game.

Please refresh my memory. Did Sony actually have any game megatons last year? The only megaton I remember is no always-online and $399 for the PS4.

A good way to bring a surprise at things like E3 is to tie it to a milestone or achievement. Like a 20th anniversary or something.

I've seen a playthrough of Shadow of the Colossus. The game was.... empty? I don't know how to say it but it was nothing special in my opinion.
The other day I grabbed a dualshock 3 and watched a Heavy Rain playthrough, pretended like I was playing the game. I've concluded that the game was just.. a QTE fest? I don't know how to say it but it was nothing special in my opinion.

Dude you just can't come here and drop such mysterious things, you just can't.

just kidding i love you our Prophet

The best part of a surprise, is that they are surprising. And if you are expecting the surprise, it kinda failed as a surprise.

So uhhh. I dont know yet, thats kind of the point of a surprise. Instead of speculating, why not just be surprised?

But what will we do to keep us occupied while we wait for E3 to surprise us? Play games or something? Come on man.

I can't decide, everytime I think about possible things that one could surprise us with, I think that the others could surprise us even more.
