Amiibo Discussion Thread

Villagers are impossible to find, I was tempted to buy a fox today, but I always have hated the way he plays in smash. I just realized it wouldn't matter because you don't fight as the amiibo. Damn it.

Has anyone actually opened their Marth, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, or Fox Amiibos? I don't think I'll be opening the trinity but Fox is a maybe. He played okay in game. I could groove with him. I'm still holding out for that ZSS Amiibo.

judging by the vast amount of those on ebay

no

I opened my wii fit trainer

Planning on getting Little Mac and Falcon from the next batch. I wonder if Mega Man will be the rare release batch 3.
I expect the third-party characters to be rare. I feel like Nintendo's only doing them so they can say every Smash character has an amiibo. They would rather have their own characters displayed on store shelves.

I've opened Fox and Marth.

I haven't opened Villager or WFT because I'm not really interested in them anyways (only got them cause they were on sale). If they start selling for a bit of money in a few months I'll sell them; if not I'll open them.

Wave two really doesn't appeal to me that much. I might get diddy and little Mac. I wanted captain falcon but I can't get over the leg block.Zelda looks kinda men too. I think I might just pick up a few more from wave 1 and then splurge on wave 3.

Opened all of them. I can't see them being worth alot in the long run. Also they look great on the shelf..

judging bye reaction on this thread,

dam son, i think amiibos became Nintendos 4th pillar overnight. Wii U 3 DS and amiibos. the other pillar? QOL lol.

is there some way to preorder all of wave 2 in one fell swoop? i mean i see this things and the thirst for them is real and growing. its gonna be a phenomemnon. its like the cod and pokemon pic, targeted audience for amiibos: kids. actual audience doe: EVERYONE especially allo of GAF.

Caved in again and bought villager (he looks superb). Bought also yoshi for a friend but yoshi has some ugly painting (it's my friend's favourite though)

I can't wait to see the 'gotta catch em all' people in a few years.

Does everyone realise the Smash ones are just the start? There's gonna be an Animal Crossing set, a Pokemon set, etc etc etc.

These things are gonna be an entire platform for years to come.

Yeah, Nintendo already makes a ton of money on toys and merchandise, they just need to find ways of making amiibos collectable.

god damn postman, I now have to collect my Villager, Wii Fit Trainer and Kirby.

"letter was too big for box, WE HAVE A POST BOX NEXT TO THE FRONT DOOR.

:\ sigh.

Yes and I absolutely can't wait.

If there's a Bob (Animal Crossing) amiibo IT WILL BE MINE.

Collectable display boxes.

I saw these at Target:

It would be cool if Nintendo did something like that for the amiibos. It would also be cool if places like "videogame box protectors" made acrylic cases or something with removable bottoms.

Do these have some sort of proprietary socket for Infinity figures, or would these actually work with Amiibos?

I opened my Marth, but the next time I saw one in a store I bought another and kept it sealed. I'll likely get WFT and Villager and leave them sealed for a short amount of time. I'll open them up if they have more use in future games or the prices stay low.

I don't know. It was really hard to tell just looking at the box, but the Disney Infinity characters look like they have a rounded base just like amiibos, so it seems like it should work. I was tempted to buy a box just to test it out. Here's a photo of the base I found online:

It's December already and we still don't have the release day for wave 2 do we? I guess that will come after Christmas or something.

I won't allow myself to buy anymore than one amiibo. With that said, if you could only buy one, which one would you pick?

I'm sorry, I can't help you.

wait what? Why is my Kirby worth 25 EUR? I was looking into maybe buying Captain Falcon and was totally surprised by this...

Do we know what amiibos do in Cpt Toad btw?

So it looks like GAME in the UK have raised the price of Amiibos from £10.99 online to £14.99. Pretty scummy.

Good sign that they are doing well I guess.

Some seem to be sold out on Amazon.co.uk. If my wife gets me Smash Bros for Xmas I might just have to treat myself to a Mario. And a Link. Oh and a Samus. Perhaps a Fox and a Kirby, but that's it.
I want them all :(

In what capacity do these things learn? So far they only seem to unlock certain behaviours and end up just being a level 9 CPU with cheat codes. Is there any actual documentation or ongoing research into this learning capacity?

Skylanders - £9.99

Disney Infinity - £9.99

Amiibo - £14.99

Like wow. Everywhere else like Nintendo UK Store, ShupTo, Smyths, Toys R Us and even Argos have them for £10.80-£11.

Nope, just a sign of greed. The fact you can buy them from anywhere else for £4+ cheaper shows that GAME are only looking for their best interests and realised that they can squeeze a tiny bit more money from each toy they sell.

Hell, the damn RRP on the toys are £10.99 I believe, £12.99 at max. This is just usual shit from GAME which landed them on the verge of bankruptcy in the first place.

Kirby is sold out everywhere at least in the UK (not sure about the rest of Europe). Villager and Yoshi are also super hard to find (managed to get a reservation in at a local Argos for Villager. No Kirby though :( )

They were £11.99 in store last time I checked in GAME.

Instore was £11.99 yesterday when I grabbed a good looking Marth with a straight sword and online was still £10.99. Checked today to see if any had come back in stock online and saw Kirby (and then the rest of them) at £14.99.

Fox seems to fair the best of all my amiibo, I think because of his recovery ability, so I'd definitely open yours up. Generally, it appears that Fox > Mario > DK > Yoshi in terms of who wins.

Yeah, it's always been £11.99 Instore, but this still does not allow them to just increase the price to increase their profits.

I am sure they can order more from Nintendo if they so desired to, instead of hiking the price for the consumer on the remaining ones.

I opened and use all twelve. Will do the same for waves 2 and 3. The memories of playing Smash/etc with my wife and daughters are worth far more than the $15-30 I could make off of a flip.

I love the Amiibos, they're fantastic imo. I have my twelve on display, not touched Smash Wii U yet because my Gamecube Controller is still yet to arrive, I can just look at these figures and wish though... just wish.

I have no idea where we in the UK can get the Wave 3 figures from, especially the exclusive store versions that were announced in the US. I guess we'll find out at some point, at least the Wave 2 ones are all easy to get hold of.

I've opened my Math and WFT, and will open my Villager when I get him too. I want to train them all up! The way I see it, each one of these amiibo gives me 2+ hours of extra gameplay training it up and then trying to beat it, so it's well worth the investment getting them :P

My Kirby is stupidly good now that he's lvl 50!

Damn, I saw a similar thing happen on Black Friday, where the clerks were changing the price tags of the Amiibos at the counter from £10.99 to £11.99. Supposedly, it was a mistake... yeah right.

Most people say they are way smarter than level 9s. Even if they aren't, the slight randomness added by the player behaviors they pick up will make them closer to a human player than a CPU. Every fight with them will be slightly different from the previous fight, as their behaviors continue to change even at max level.

All I know is mine leveled up rapidly and learned to spam throw with terrifying accuracy. Needless to say, I don't play with him anymore.

I think I've finally decided what I want to to with Amiibos. I'm only going to be buying my favorite characters and not every single one. That's going to save me money, but I'm still getting to urge to go out and buy the entire set. But I keep telling myself that there's going to be more beyond Wave 3...
