Here is my current toolbox, working on custom/equip loadouts for each

Badass planetbuster mains:

Sheik
Rosaluma
Samus

Not-so-sure for my consideration secondaries:

ZSS
Capt. Falcon
Ness
Peach
Olimar

Any advice GAF?

How do you play Ness? Strong focus on the grab game? Diddy plays similarly in that respect. If you use Ness to guard the ledges, Pikachu can feel quite natural.

If Ness grabs you, he's probably doing so with the intent to kill as he's one of few characters that can kill with his throws, which is a pretty crazy thing to have. Ness' strength is in his aerials. His NAir suckerpunches anything and has transcendent priorities, his UAir kills a lot earlier than you expect it to and his FAir is a spectacular combo tool. He has outstanding Out-of-Shield Options. They buffed him into the moon.

I think right now my mains are Jigglypuff, Ness, Sonic and Peach. The former two for their amazing aerial game, Peach because she's an incredibly versatile and balanced fighter and Sonic because I like to go fast. I can appreciate all the buffs they got in Smash 4 as they're some of my favorite characters and are pretty damn great now.

Diddy Kong is there as a tertiary main as well but I feel bad for admitting that because of the DThrow->UAir notoriety and the guarantee that he's basically the best character in the game. He was my main in Brawl and I still love him just as much, if not more, but much like Sonic I can't help but feel like people are silently judging me because of the insanely free tactics.

That character gets so absurd so quickly and with even fewer characters that outright tell him stop, he's free to run wild with kit that has been buffed out of the ass. What's more, he's not Lucas. (RIP better looking/acting A button moves)

So, my current favourites to play:

Main: Pikachu, cute little death matchine

Secondary characters I like to play a lot as well:

Pit
R.O.B
Megaman
ZSS

My mains:
King DeDeDe
Ganondorf
Shulk
Jigglypuff
Little Mac
Lucina/Marth
Palutena

I don't like using spammy asshole characters or top tier characters. I only resort to DeDeDe when the opponent uses annoying strategies to win (it happens a lot), but I'm pretty good at using Gordos to constrict their movement.

Using an actual controller feels so weird after having played the 3DS version for 2 months. I actually feel like I'm doing worse lol

Where were you when I was doing tequila shots the other night?

Shulk top tier
The range on his Up and Down Smashes is ridiculous.

Do you guys prefer buttons or stick for Smash attacks?
I use both, depending on whether I charge it. Habit.

Not good!

Marth - As someone who is a die hard character specialist... As someone who has spent the last 13 years playing this character... As someone with a love for all things blue and sword using... I hate this incarnation. Plain and simple. It's not even about bellyaching because "wah my character doesn't completely roflstomp everyone anymore" so much as there's nothing about the play styles I enjoyed in the Melee/Project M or Brawl builds here. Sure I can play the patient read game but that's only one aspect of what made the character so appealing in the first place. With the nerfs to movement persisting from Brawl, gone are Marth's aggressive footsies and impressive baits. With the amount of landing animation lag that cannot be player mitigated in any way, there is now an invisible wall or set of chains placed on what was once designed as the Smash series' defacto nimble swordsman. With the buffs to shields, everyone gets free counters on any swing he does. I didn't (and still don't) even care that his sword range got decreased, but losing out on those previous attributes is just a bit much.

I imagine I'll still be playing him though because as I expressed on twitter, Marth and Pit are my boys to the point of being who I regularly associate with playing Smash (fuck your Marios, Links, Nesses and the like), but every time I pick this character and play I just feel the color leave the world for a short period of time. I imagine this is what Falcon mains went through when going from Melee to Brawl. :lol
The most frustrating part, IMO is how punishable his normals are. Might as well not try to hit people with your normals...

I wish they uppered Charizard a bit. I love the character but he is absolutely useless in battle. His Brawl counterpart was much better.
LOL. I always do well with Charizard.

The lag in online is terrible.... A fighting game with input lag is no fun.
You may need to adjust your router settings to "application forward" the Wii U. Or activate UPnP.

Not related to your query, but I havent really bothered with custom moves at all, what's the "best" way for getting custom moves in WiiU? Is there one, 'cause the DS way was pretty terrible.

The range on his Up and Down Smashes is ridiculous.

.

A good Shulk depresses me as someone who has been using Ike as one of his mains. Shulk just feels better all around.

That's exactly why I suggest Diddy for people who like Ness and want a similar second - same focus on the grab-to-kill and the sick pressure you can exert using your aerials.

Great! I'll host!

HeavyMetal, making sure no one is surfing the internet with their phone or iPad helps but a wired connection can't be beat!

Hopefully will be getting a LAN adapter soon but in the mean time I've turned Wi-Fi off on everything other than my laptop and Wii U so hopefully that'll improve things!

this is the problem with this "bad" marth, people need to stop trying to play with him like we used to, he has new tricks, and the changes to his normals/aerials demand to learn new ways to approach with him, he is far from being bad to olimar levels imo lol

I dont believe it is doable in the normal game?
Yes , can be done in game when activating the final smash, also more moon shots:
