Man. Doing All Star mode on the Wii U version is bullshit. I think 90% of my deaths have been due to some of the dumb stages. I really hate the crab on the Pikmin level.

Gamer is the real kicker for me. I like the stage normally but it's a pain in the ass with the set of enemies it gives(Fox, Falco, Dedede specifically are assholes).

And when you get to the end and get pac land...no.

Pikmin and Gamer are the worst on All-Star. The stage hazards on Pikmin look like they should be super fucking obvious, but I've been caught slipping way too often.

Pac Land isn't bad as long as you don't let the stage cycle all the way to the end. It's not hard to keep up and the AI generally has a worse time with it than most other stages in my experience.

Port Town is completely stupid too. Oh? At 0% before this stage? Hope you like getting a free 80%.
The hazards on it are obvious but if they hit they hurt. :/

Non All Star but getting Gaur Plains or some other huge ass stage sucks in Crazy Orders. The AI tends to run away and I tend to get this stage when I'm running out of time. D:

I have no idea what happens near the start but I have seen them suicide a lot, maybe the hydrants mess with them.

Little Mac is terrifying just for the KO punch potential right at the end. I like getting Delfino just to try and push him off and kill him right away.

You can see the stage in the ticket to avoid that stuff. It gets crowded later on with team battle/free for all which is when I would suggest avoiding them. I once wasn't able to see the stage and got Palutena's Temple and wanted to go into fetal position irl.

I think Pikmin and Gamer are two of the best stages... the former because there are a lot of places to hide and set up free smash attacks and large enough so you don't have to engage all 3 at the same time. The crab is also very helpful at times. Gamer is amazing since most the other possible stages have you on a small platform. With 2 laser users and Mach Tornado, you're fucked.

2 other great stages are Onett and Norfair.

I HAD TWO LIVES ON THE LAST FUCKING HEART IN MASTER FORTRESS AND I FUCKED IT UP

I CAN'T SEE SHIT WITH ALL THESE PARTICLE EFFECTS

GODDAMIT SAKURAI

In All-star mode, I like stages that are pretty big and with hazards that are easily avoidable. They really help a lot on hard mode, especially since they really like to gang up and rack damage pretty fast.

I was playing All-Star and thought I picked up the hard difficulty by mistake judging by how aggresive were the CPU but then I saw I was playing in normal 0_o
It's definitely harder than on 3DS.

I think my Mario amiibo is dumb, he just killed himself in the F-Zero stage by jumping off stage to his death twice when the cars are racing toward you.
And he is level 48.

While I would've obviously liked to see modelers take a swing at making new 3D models for Rhythm Heaven and WarioWare trophies, I'll easily take this over not having trophies of them at all... again.

Plus super rad new arttt

Well he is adapting your playstyle.......

Just kidding :D Though I don't know why he would do something like that, my Link seems pretty good at level 17 :)

I am never going to beat Master Fortress. This has got to be one of the biggest bullshit bosses of all time. Either these fucking Kid Icarus flowers combo you, or the Stalfos bounce your shit to 0-150% damage all while you can't see anything because everything's black and it has the worst platform placement of all time. Who tested this shit and thought "YEAH PRETTY FUN"

ill trade you, i think mine is a serial killer. i got him and donkey kong and he routinely schools us both. im waiting for dk to wise up and join forces with me in interest of self preservation

Let me see if I can recount the Fortress fight.

Dash right, roll past Stalfos, smash the flower, smash other flower, kill core.
Dash back, roll past Stalfos, quickly head up and bypass Spark thing, dodge spiders, kill flower thing
Drop down right, kill flower, move left, kill flower on bottom-left, head up to core, 1 hit and immediately fall back 2 platforms to kill flower spawn, head back to kill core

Head up, dodge roll Stalfos, jump danger zone, hit/kill run the flower, reach end and hit spark once, kill spider, then kill spark, then kill core
Drop down, wait for first stalfos attack, jump and bypass, no kill, repeat on second
Drop down, kill spiders for fun, jump and get ready for stalfos meteor swipe and air-dodge, ignore it, run to flower and kill, head top-right and kill flower; kill sparks, do 1 smash attack and fall down since monster will spawn, kill them and then kill core

yay

sorry, typing with 1 hand and distant memory.

Yup. Too many of the stages have hazards and with how long it takes to knock characters off screen in this game it makes All-Star mode kind of cheap because the longer you're on the stage the more likely it is that you're going to get hit by some bullshit stage hazard.

The master forteress became really easy once you know the "level".

The master beast and sword are the most dangerous IMO, even if you know their patterns, it catches you sometimes offguard or attacks way to quickly

Edit : Doing the all-star mode with ganondorf is sooooooooooooo good even on hard mode

Unless you're doing the 12-minute challenge, just take your time. Eliminate the laser-shooting enemies as fast as possible, throw the enemies that can't be hit directly if they're in your way, clear out a room before you start wailing on a core, and abuse auto-healing equipment if you've got any.

Master Beast has a predictable pattern so long as you take a predictable set of actions, like range spam it for damage. Its also limited to purely the stage and it only has a handful of moves.

Master Swords (uhhh...) are the ones that are the real bitch.

Master Fortress is really all about learning enemy placement and taking them out (or knocking them down long enough so you can move on) quickly. Pretty much all my failed runs involved thinking I could sneak past some enemies, only to get hit and knocked around.

Basically, as soon as they appear, grab+throw Stalfos, and use pretty much any attack on Lethinium, Geemers, and Plasma Wisps (should generally knock them into other enemies and Danger Zones, but you can follow up with other attacks if they don't kill). Also, remember that more enemies appear once you start attacking the... I think it's 2nd and last cores. Stop attacking and take out the enemies before you continue.

Once I started using that strategy, I haven't had a failed run since.

Anyway, I'm down to 8 challenges remaining:

1. Clear Classic on intensity 9.0 without losing a single life: Double Final Smasher Protection Badge equipment
7. Collect all of the special moves: Smooth Lander Brawn Badge equipment
10. Collect all of the custom headgear: Majora's Mask trophy
11. Clear All-Star on Hard with all characters: Saki Amamiya trophy
16. Collect 700 unique trophies: Item Hitter Agility Badge equipment
18. Clear Crazy Orders after 20 or more turns while playing as Mario: F.L.U.D.D. trophy
20. Collect all the CDs: Tac trophy
33. Clear Classic at intensity 7.0 or higher with all the characters: Regal Crown Mii headgear

I'm only putting off #18 because everyone tells me this is way easier with a Home Run Bat equipped, but I don't have that item yet. I've managed 19 rounds so far due to time constraints, so I definitely want a way to get through that in a quicker fashion.

Only #1 can't be hammered, so I've been concentrating on that. I'm getting better at making it through without having to continue but can't quite do 1-stock. Master Beast usually fucks me up; he's by far the most difficult form to read.

I have all 5 hammers in reserve but I'm probably not going to use any.

It's just that you're almost always going in there with one life. Master Giant will always wreck your shit even if you fight him at 0%, and those swords have a very quick almost instakill attack that it ALWAYS uses. Basically you cannot make any mistakes. Just now I got to the last core, killed everything I could, but died because of the fucking 100% wall under the core. The platform is so tiny that you just miss it if you do an aerial attack. It wouldn't be so bad if you could heal halfway through, but no you gotta go in there where possibly any small attack could end you.

Couple this with going through Classic at 9.0, and then having to do it again if you fail enough. WOW SO FUN MUCH MUCH GAME DESIGN

You can heal halfway through, though. A heart is dropped on Final Destination once the fortress starts, and you're returned to the entrance after the first half of it.

And like I said, if you have any auto-healer equipment, then you can take your time and chill outside to purposely abuse that as long as you have ample time left on the clock.

I like to think my many plays of Smash Run and even multiple trips through Brawl's SSE made the master fortress a pretty breezy for me, those plants, stalfo and plasma wisps in fortress form aren't nearly as dickish as their Smash Run counterparts nor some of Subspace Army.
Though much like Smash Run itself I guess it varies in how well things play out based upon your chosen character, I find those with lacking aerials are going to have a much harder time, I was basically one shotting everything in there with Ike, meanwhile I can only imagine sheer annoyance as say Little Mac.

Going back to the All Star talk, yesterday I did the no healing and Lucario challenges combined and my stage to gripe about is Luigi's Mansion at the end which was just annoying as hell since I should've killed half the characters involved multiple times over but those blasted corridors kept saving their fortunate backsides.
And of course Wily Fortress because the Yellow Devil, weird that the 3DS version was nice enough to remove some stage hazards and then the Wii U game is like nope, enjoy boss characters, the perils of Kalos pokemon league and more!
This in turn led to me finally taking full advantage of the power of aura since I rarely play as Lucario, I can't help but think his power balance should be not quite as weak at the start and not quite as ridiculous when you're in the high percentages, it's all fun and games until you're on the receiving end of it, great for All Star however.

I think 9.0 is supposed to mean Hard or something. Giant is the easiest form because of the ample time to dodge all attacks. You should be attacking the last core from the platform it rests on too.

If he's having trouble before Fortress, I doubt he has time to waste.

I mean healing after the first two hearts.

I beat Master Fortress at 8.0 with Jigglypuff on my second try, not sure if it was an advantage with my character choice but the first time I only died on account of not realizing the acid ceilings kill you post-100%. The second try it was only a matter of completely ignoring the Stalfoses and slapping away the laser turrets since they'll be sent flying relatively easy.

I played it yesterday with friends for the first time. None of them had played SSB since the early 2000s. It was a pain to get them started and some of them didn't really have fun. Picked the hardest characters based on coolness factors and were constantly annoyed that the game didn't do what they thought they input..

After we switched from 6 people smash to 1 on 1 winner stays it got much better though.

For the next session I'll change a few things I guess - we have to play on another TV: The stupid LG we played on had input lag which annoyed the hell out of me - felt laggy all the time.
I'll have to find a good mixture of items. Some don't really make sense for beginners I think. And I'll have to find a good mixture of stages. If you can fall down it has to be one that's not too hectic.

Any other tips for getting people to learn the game? Any good item settings? Stage settings?
We always do random characters and random stages. Keeps things fresh and balanced.

Does anyone else feel like this game has been figured out too quickly? For Glory is full of Sonic's and Shieks and Zero Suit Samus. I mean sure, it's For Glory but it shouldn't necessarily be For Smashboards. Also, Sonic and Diddy pretty much have unbeatable combos and it's really hard to catch a Shiek or ZSS. Mayhbe it's people coming over from the 3DS version but recently it's been feeling like a "follow the tier list or lose, loser" kind of game.

Yikes, one of the challenges is to clear 9.0 without dying once? Noooo thanks. Has anyone completed all the challenges yet? Is there any kind of special bonus or unlock for doing so?

I see more Captain Falcons online than any other character. And Links. And Little Macs of course :p

What's the best way to grind gold? I'm pretty much stuck at 150000 right now since I'm at a point where I feel like I absolutely need to grab a trophy if it's new in the shop. I still need the 300000 gold challenge though, so I want to get that out of the way so I can stop worrying about money so much.

Uh, can you clear 9.0 with dying now? In KI:U, you couldn't, and this was the hardest part of 9.0 actually...

Maybe it's my timezone but everyone in For Glory has been following the "tiers" like a Bible. Sonic and Diddy are unbeatable. Good recovery, deadly air and just plain spammable grabs and setups. Those two will probably get a small nerf considering Greninja already did and he was manageable.

By "not dying", he means you can't even lose 1 stock.

Dr. Mario 8 fever rush challenge gets you 150K.

I see lots of those characters losing to my Bowser.

There are always characters that are more popular than others, and faster characters tend to be more popular in fighting games. They aren't necessarily better.

Go and try your luck in Spectate bets. Hitting and winning 10x thrice nets you an easy 100k for just 100G. That's where I easily got 200k the other day and 100k yesterday lol. Matches do repeat sometimes so you can at least guarantee a correct guess after seeing a good number of matches.

I dunno, after all those Diddy tournament videos popped up, everyone wants to be a grab happy monkey and he's generally fast so dodging his grabs puts you on the defence quite quickly. It's hard to imagine the likes of Bowser, Donkey Kong or Dedede keeping up with such a fast character as Diddy or Sonic.

isn't there a glitch involving a "lose invincibility on respawn" piece of equipment that allows you to actually lose a stock and still get the challenge?

.....also it doesn't say solo classic for that challenge, so presumably you can skip Master Fortress entirely

It isn't about the character, it is about the player. Most of the people who "pick a top tier" don't have the skills necessary to make that character shine in such a way that justifies the tier placement.

Ganon chews through Sonic. Sonic can't just spam his approach speed as Wizard's Kick cancels it out and comes out faster, and all it takes from Ganon to kill sonic is a dtilt or a bair.

I L O V E getting cheap wins with the Villager online :D He's really an hilarious character. Tree smashed some Little Mac in Sudden Death. lmao

Yup, this is exactly how I feel too.

Good to know it wasn't just me. I haven't even cleared 100 man smash on the Wii U version yet, but I think I cleared it on first try on 3DS.

Sakurai may have mentioned it only about the challenges but he did say the Wii U version would be more difficult all around. My guess is that a standard controller allows for more ease of movement so they up'd the skill cap.

Oh and if you are Bowser vs Sonic and they just spam that skin dash. Just wait in place and do a whirling fortress(upB) it will absorb Sonic like a sponge. I do believe same applies to DK with spinning Kong only that one doesn't start up as fast.

i've been smoking those characters with my zelda. don't stick to tier lists, fight da player.

Eh Sonic isn't that hard. All his spin attacks have obvious signs and are super easy to dodge and punish. Diddy is annoying as fuck as it seems all his attacks he super high priority.

Tier lists don't mean much online anyway. Chances are most players won't be using the character in the same as the best players who got them there.

I have real problems doing tilt attacks on purpose, due to how stressy the game is, most come out as smash attacks. best example being samus down tilt attack, that thing is strong, but it's hard to get it to come out reliably, have to be gentle with the stick :(
Configure "Attack" on the second analog stick for reliable tilts if you have no trouble pulling off Smash Attacks the traditional way.

What's the consensus on Mega Man? I'm trying to get a good grip on him but I can't seem to actually fight well with him. I can see his whole point of being a projectile-based character with a lot of range, but when it comes to fighting against decent players the projectiles don't really seem to do significant enough damage and his close-range options I feel are a bit limited. I don't know why but his lack of tilt As really throws me off more than I think it should.

Any strong MM players out here? What is your approach when playing as him?
This guy plays a mean Mega Man, for what it's worth.
