Oh yeah the Nosferatus, I can't believe how often you got me with that, it's way more effective than I thought. I'm really enjoying Fox this time around, I've been playing with him more and more these days.

Fox's speed off the pivot with his jabs, tilts, and smashes, is really crazy. Hard to approach but you can't do much camping against that sort of speed either. He's a lot better than he was in Brawl that's for sure, especially since the pivot game can completely wreck campers. Robin moves so slow, so Fox and Sheik are a real nightmare with their fast approaches.

Ya, you can pivotslide the Nosferatu. One of our posters made a video of it before with Falcon, its almost like a wavedash off a pivot but only for certain moves and they all go different lengths.

I encountered a really annoying Rosalina last night. Every time I was off-stage--not even KO'd, mind you--she would do the "Mm-hmm" taunt two or three times. Not only that, but in between matches, she would constantly select and deselect a character as if to continue taunting. (A real charmer, I know.) Lost one match as Ness (naturally) and one as Palutena, then came back to score a victory literally in the last second of the last match as Palutena. I hope she was infuriated, lol.

I made a vid showing Falcon's Rapid Jab using the "slide" that I talked about earlier. You can do this with a decent amount of moves, but I'm too lazy to make a video showing all of them lol. Doing this with Kirby's D-tilt or Toon Link's F-Tilt makes them almost feel like dash attacks.

edit: You can also pivot the attacks during the slide.

Wow, that's awesome! Gonna have to implement this trick into my Palutena and Duck Hunt. :D

Pikachu? Rosalina? Robin? Luigi?

At least none that I've played against

In my experience, Rosalina has been the most problematic of those four, but my thoughts:

Pikachu: Incredible recovery, lots of spacing/gimping tools (pretty frustrating matchup for Mac)
Rosalina: Disjointed hitboxes, Luma serving as a shield/extra attacker, projectile neutralization (destroys Ness's recovery)
Robin: Solid space control, powerful aerials, great recovery
Luigi: Strong air game, high priority/speed and lasting hitboxes on a number of moves

Sigh, I'm playing this on 3DS and man I'm absolutely awful lol. Any tips for a beginner on how to improve? I'm putting like 50% on a guy and losing a three stock match 3-0 :(

My favorite fighters are Doc Mario, Zero Suit Samus, and Meta Knight so far. I also like Pac Man and Greninja. I'm just a total disaster right now lol. I played the Wii Smash game but just among friends and we were all pretty awful so it didn't matter haha.

Edit: I should add I plan on getting on Wii U as well. Just...when I get a Wii U. Lol

Megaman up air and SHORYUKEN is so much fun to KO with in For fun mode lol. And his final smash always put a smile to my face even if it waste too much time and not getting KO at the last second.

It is so satisfying when you use Piston Punch against your opponents in Crazy Order.

Down Throw > Piston Punch almost kills them every time.

And of course, their constant yells of pain make it even more satisfying.

A great stress reliever.

I don't think I can put into words how much I absolutely abhor and despise the Fortress section of classic. The complete and utter opposite of anything resembling fun. There is absolutely no way I'm ever beating this mode on 9.0.

I hate Fortress because the heavyweights get thrown like Ragdolls and slammed into the Great Cave Offensive Instant Death Zones.

HELPFUL ADVICE!!

- You can literally grab any of the enemies, including the Stalfos (unlike in Smash Run). Just toss them into the acid, or out of the way.

- Always take out the laser-shooting plants first, no matter what, then the lightning-shooting...things, since their ball of lightning is like a 1-hit KO.

- The Stalfos will attack even when you're not near, wait for them to attack, then rush on over and throw them.

- The Heart Container that spawns will always stay there until you take it. If you are under 100%, take out the first two cores, then when you come back to Final Destination, take it if you are at a high percentage.

Play with a light character for easy mobility, and ignore everything except the guys who shoot lasers.

I've done it with Jigglypuff and Toon Link on 9.0, as well as with Game & Watch on 8.5.

I finally realized just how asinine my Wii U setup is right now when I moved it from the living room to the bedroom. So, my son hasn't been feeling the best these past couple of days, but we're just lounging about, and he decides he wants to watch TV in our room. After not too long, he decides he'd rather watch the iPad. Rather than fiddle around with off-TV play, I decide to move the Wii U and connect it up to the bedroom TV. And at that point, the asininity of this setup becomes apparent.

Right now, I have all of the following connected: an external HDD connected via a Y-Cable, a powered 4-port USB hub, and a USB LAN adapter. Connected to two ports of the hub are the cables for the GameCube adapter. Connected from that was a wired GameCube controller. Sure, I could have made it slightly less ridiculous by using a WaveBird, but I felt like going all out. I was this close to going completely crazy and running a long ethernet cable through the house to get a wired connection to the router.

Uhh, your tag is kind of appropriate for your situation I feel lol. Must look like a wired abomination I'm sure lol.

The region behind my TV is a no-man's land of twisted cords with no clear purpose lest one untangle them to the source. I recently had to move my Wii U, and it was not a pleasant experience.

Though not as bad as my sister moving her couch and fixing a months-old dead mouse behind it.

The end game here is to eventually acquire a second GC adapter, and use my 8 (4 WaveBirds, 4 wired) GC controllers for 8-player Smash and see just how ridiculous this setup can get.

Madness! Do you play online? Add me up if you do, my NNID is Karsticles.

Karsticles needs to accept my friend request.
I will get to it, no worries. I work 60 hour weeks, so I don't touch the Wii U for days at a time. Tomorrow I get out early (5pm), so I will probably add you then.

I once ran a simultaneous 10-player Saturn Bomberman tournament with the console hooked up through RGB cables, an upscaler, and split out to 4 VGA monitors, with a full livestream setup (capture card, mixer, headsets, webcams, etc.) inserted into the mix.

Totally worth it.

Question: Those of you getting lag-free online, what are your typical DL speeds? Trying to troubleshoot this and I've accepted it might just be me.

It's not usually this slow, but it rarely peaks above 15.

Well you got 28 days so you'll add me eventually. Can't wait to fight the Wii U Bowser you are pro with.

Mine is also a no-man's land with the added booby trap that anything you do back there, even if you just blow lightly behind the TV, will cause my sensor bar to fling itself off the top of the TV into the abyss at a moment's notice.

Bandwidth is borderline irrelevant to online gaming.

The only use that a speed test has for diagnosing gaming issues is when your actual throughput is significantly less than what you're supposed to be getting from your ISP. (e.g. If you're paying for 20down/5up but are only getting 10down/3up, then that's a tell-tale sign that something is wrong with your connection or service.)

It is and I just purchased a new modem today. The one we have is at least 7 years old.

Sooooo I fought someone in one on one for glory earlier with the tag Mew2King. I dunno if it was THE Mew2King. It probably wasn't because I whooped him pretty soundly with ZSS. Though he did come back and beat me with Captain Falcon before disconnecting from me.

I have been spending a lot of time on Palutena lately. I would say that she is two steps behind Bowser right now. My Zelda is still trash, and I think I might accept that she and I were not meant to be.

Interesting fact: Random Select has never given me ZSS or Sheik.

I will probably just stick to Bowser and Palutena now that my vacation is over. In two weeks I will have to cut down on Smash significantly for the release of Xrd. I am definitely going to stay active, though.

I went 8-0 against a Hungrybox online. It isn't them, just posers and losers.

This made me laugh.

I do, but only really in short bursts. Usually anywhere between 1 and 5 For Glory matches at a time before I have to move on to something family/work related (working via the VPN right now before bed). I doubt I'd present much of a challenge for you, as I'm a slightly above .500 player in both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game. But I'll add you next time I turn on my Wii U.

My username is predictably SteveYoungblood.

You should test whatever you can with your current setup anyway. Do the power levels on the modem look like they're in the proper range? Is it overheating? Is your cable connection running through multiple splitters without amplification and weakening your signal? Does eliminating your router from the chain and connecting directly to the modem cause a noticeable difference? etc.
