They would have canned Dead Rising 3 without Microsoft's support, and if they can't even be bothered to take a risk on Street Fighter V of all things without Sony being a partner, then the company really has a dismal future.

I don't really believe one way or the other, but I will say that I wouldn't be completely surprised if they only went into SFV because they had a partner. Capcom seems terribly misguided right now (unrelated to SFV even).

About the game itself: awesome. New numbered Street Fighter coming way sooner than I expected. It'll play amazing and be great and it's a total day 1.

Not as awesome? The art style. I was really hoping they'd move away from the action figure style of IV (was never a fan). If the final version ends up being a refined more detailed take on IV, color me disappointed. I've always enjoyed how each numbered game and spinoff had its own visual identity, and it'll be a bummer if we're just getting more of the same. This is entirely a personal issue, I know. I've just never liked IV's character designs, especially coming off of III and the Alpha series. I'd love to see a 3D approximation of that art style!

Though I guess a part of me is seriously being spoiled by playing Xrd on PS4 right now. Hahaha.

Still. Street Fighter V! Rejoice!

Both. This was suppose to be aannounced at Playstation Experience but they used their Ultra a little too early and are Shinryuken-ing in the air for no reason.

It's a big get because it locks an entire genre's fanbase into buying PS4s. SF5 maybe isn't a system seller on its own, but Street Fighter is *the* fighting game guaranteed to make its way into the homes of every member of the fighting game community. Those same fans are also likely to buy Tekken, SC, Guilty Gear, DoA, KoF on PS4 now, too.

This is true. Though a few of those series (Guilty Gear, Tekken) were already pretty much locks for PS4 anyway. FGC is a small but committed and big spending bunch. Especially with PS+ subscriptions being mandatory for online, they'll all be spending on that.

Yeah, I had hoped for that too. At least the rendering technique is different this time, it's more clay-ish. This is still the better looking current gen fighting game as of now. MK looks really dissapointing and Tekken 7 too (though graphics aren't finished yet). Tekken 7's rendering is almost if not entirely the same as TTT2/T6. I'm also quite pleased Capcom didn't went batshit insane with particle effects (yet), like in Killer Instinct and T7, which add nothing to the game, other than because we can.

Definite system seller for me.
SF has a very dedicated fan base who, much like something like CoD, will buy the console that their friends are playing on.

I feel kind of 'Meh' for the visuals. The game looks like a port/remake of Street Fighter IV. I really wished, they would have be more experimental with the art style.

Let's hope, they put more work into the Single-Players-Modes like many other modern fighting-games and create a smart system to get beginners into the genre. Also no focus on Free-to-Play and On-Disk-DLC ...

Big spending is definitely key. I've never known a fighting game fan that wasn't also a huge fan of games altogether. They buy software, and lots of it; myself included.

Street Fighter is not like Bayonetta or Bloodborne though. It is one of the premier franchises in video gaming - and on an even bigger level than Tomb Raider. Cant remember the last time such a huge game was moneyhatted, and it cant have been cheap.

You're clearly overestimating the IP. There are enough third party franchises on consoles which are bigger than Street Fighter, western and Japanese.
Also, the game is going to be released on PC too which may have soften the price Sony had to pay/invest.

I'm retty sure Bloodborne is going to sell more than SFV on PS4 btw if the Souls games are an indication (when compared to last gens SFIV iterations)

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Street Fighter 5 for either system, nor will they purchase any of Capcom's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Capcom has alienated an entire market with this move.

Capcom, publicly apologize and cancel Street Fighter 5 for PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
