Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

If you can't see how that domination resulted in Sony making bad cocky decisions for years with the PS3 then you are blind. They needed to be humbled and getting them back to the point of cockiness doesn't do consumers any good.

Why is it my problem what they do with their next system? If their next system sucks because they're cocky or whatever, then I won't buy their next system. It's that easy!

This has been mentioned and its a really interesting explanation that we'll honestly probably never get the answer to.

It would solve a lot of problems, not only would there be a lot more people playing at once but it would also make sure when one game gets updated the other one would to. Not to mention the netcode would have to be pretty good on both platforms as well.

That's a dream scenario for me though. I don't actually think it will happen sadly :(.

This made me weak.

Is that actual SFV footage from the teaser? Looks very similar to it's previous installments. I mean, I expected a little more difference in the graphics department, but at the same time, I could probably understand why they went that route.

I have a (bad) theory about this.

Initially Ono said that a new Street Fighter would not be ready till 2018.

Now they announced SFV and, by the VERY LITTLE footage shown, it seems some kind of SFIV Plus Plus On Steroids.

My fear is: because of the request for an exclusive Street Fighter, development has been speed-up, and we are getting a title more similar to SFIV than to a "real" new iteration.

Now that I'm actually complaining: i will buy it anyway and play the sheet out of it. :)

Are we really going to argue that the most popular fighting game around was ever in any danger of not being released? Really? Is this really how far we are willing to go in order to somehow, someway justify this?

For the record, as a gamer I despise third party exclusives. I hate them. I do recognize the business realities of the industry though which is why I have absolutely no issue with Sony securing an exclusive for their platform, if in the end it proves to be an exclusive of course. I do have an issue with the people who ripped MS to shreds for securing the Tomb Raider deal and are now singing a different tune. Even if the game proves to not be an exclusive in the end, the double standards on display are pathetic. Not talking about you Neoxon, I don't know how you reacted then so please don't take it personally.
Did you somehow miss everything Ono said about the game?

I'm holding out hope! It would be wonderful!

Just got here, saw the OP. PC WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTT

So happy to see Japanese publishers get it so right.

Also, I'll have to buy/win/steal a PS4 sometime next year at this rate.

It wasn't Ono that said 2018 it was someone else but you are right though.

The original KI? ;)

Oh Opus.

Here's my question

At EVO and other big tournaments which have SF4 as it's big game, what console do they usually have setup for the contestants to play on?

I can understand the PC release for SFV, because SF4, the Arcade version was essentially running on customized PC hardware with an embedded version of Windows XP. (Taito Type X hardware)

The audience of Street Fighter is mixed. there are tons of contestants that show up to these tournaments every year, lots of people on both East and West Coast US, South America, Japan, and even Europe, so the game does in fact have worldwide appeal for those that play it competitively.

The Japanese fanbase playing the game usually plays the games in Arcades, so there is one point against the Xbox One release in Japan. However a release outside of Japan would make sense.

So from what I can deduce it's one of several things.

1) Capcom being a Japanese company is developing the game for a Japanese audience first and formost, which in their minds a XB1 is currently not a consideration.
2) Capcom is making SFV a timed exclusive and then later on will port to the XB1 after a period of time.
3) Metrics for official Capcom sponsored tournaments show that most of the player base is mainly using Sony hardware for the events.
4) The game is STILL coming out for the XB1 but Capcom just accidently forgot to put the Xbox One logo on the trailer.
5) Capcom and Microsoft could not come to amicable licensing agreement and the game is no show until this agreement is hashed out to both parties being happy.
6) I don't know, nothing makes sense. SF having worldwide appeal, you would hope Capcom has enough business sense to release on both PS4 and XB1 considering both consoles have near identical hardware in terms of APU configuration with some notable clockspeed and ram changes being the only significant differences, not to mention running on the x86 architecture, so a multiplatform release is sensible.

Unless we know the exact details about the deal, we don't know if this is actually bad for gamers. For all we know the game wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for Sony's involvement. We don't know.

Look at Demon's Souls. Thank god for first-party interventions!

+Bayonetta 2

On the dev side, it can be a bitch putting your efforts in refining a game on one console alone. Trying to make it perfect on 2, insane especially when you want to get the same specs and performance standards.

It's guaranteed to come to PC, chill out, duds.

You haven't played KI.

I have and its not a looker, It is fun though (Kan Ra OP). We have seen nothing of SFV outside of early footage and as far as I know Demps just started working on SFV a few months ago so this is very very early stuff.

If you're looking for a few matches add me kingviktaunius3 on XB1.

I am happy that there is a Street Fighter V. I am happy and excited at what it looks like. I am happy that I have a PS4 to play the game. As a massive SF fan, I wouldn't wish lack of access to the game on my worst enemy.

I look forward to seeing how SFV develops visually.

Street Fighter IV went through some big, big changes between its initial reveal and final release. Just take a look at one of the original screens:

street-fighter-4.jpg

The final game looked much nicer and its follow-ups improved further. I have high hopes.

"real iteration" is subjective, because nearly every top selling game now and days reuse the same material from the previous game and no one bats an eye.

Yup yup yup. I have a feeling this is the reality behind SFV.

Its funny. I have a gaming PC so if the net play is up to snuff I will happily pick this up on PC. (I dont have a PS4 or XBONE)

A friend of mine who is a big gamer and street fighter fan but doesnt have a gaming PC has been waiting to decide if he wants to get a PS4 or XBONE. He told me he was waiting for the big games to be announced to make his decision. I texted him today a one line text that said "Street Fighter 5". He texted back and said "no way". I then replied and said "exclusive for PS4 and PC". He replied - "guess I am getting a PS4".

Exclusives like this sell systems. I dont see why someone would pay to have Tomb Raider as an exclusive, I dont think Tomb Raider sells systems.

Sigh, the mods need to clean this garbage up.

Exactly. It's funny seeing a lot of salty posts.

Plus the difference is that Rise of the Tomb Raider was always going to go multiplatform anyways, while this may be similar to games like Demon's Souls & Bayonetta 2 in which the game wouldn't be made if not for the 1st party company's involvement.

For the record, as a gamer I despise third party exclusives. I hate them. I don't think we can call it a double standard until we know what the deal is. If this is a Bayo 2 situation where the game wouldn't have been made unless Sony funded it, then this can't be compared to the TR deal. Or this could be a case of MS flat out rejecting the game because they won't allow cross-platform play, much like FFXIV. In which case it has nothing to do with Sony.

No you didn't, you had Street Fighter 2 Turbo Edition.
CE was announced as an exclusive for the Genesis since they got screwed out of SF2. Nintendo then threw a hissy fit and Capcom gave them the newer Turbo edition so they wouldn't suffer Nintendo's wrath.
I'm pretty sure SNES and Genesis BOTH had Champion Edition and Turbo Hyper Fighting selectable on the same cart.

It's just the names were different for each: Special Champion Edition for Genesis, and Turbo Hyper Fighting for SNES.

I've seen magazines/websites make this mistake to this very day.

Street Fighter II had a bunch of different exclusive version. I'm sure I'll get this wrong as I'm going from memory of 20 years go, but 2 was exclusive to SNES, Champion Edition got an exclusive Genesis port, and Turbo was again exclusive to SNES. I think it wasn't until Super that a version was released simultaneously on SNES and Genesis.

Yep. The Genesis version was changed to "Special Champion Edition" or something, as it included the same speed settings as Turbo, but the Turbo branding and costumes were only on SNES. (The Genesis version may have even had the costume color palette -- it's been so long.)

lol come on now. You really believe that one of the most selling Capcom franchise wouldn't get a sequel without the help of Sony or MS?

No just no.

Hmmmm.... yes just yes :p

For one like duckroll pointed out it could just be japan.

- Japanese trailer
- No press release yet
- Video pulled because it wasn't supposed to be up yet

Maybe all the console warriors on either side should sit down until there's an official announcement worldwide? Because if you're releasing any game in Japan from now on, you're probably not going to consider Xbox as a viable platform to even market for. :P

This is what Ono said about SFV last year.

Ono would like to make SF5, but expensive; would consider free 2 play Street Fighter

Two in this very thread people have posted things that suggest that isn't the case -

So this is only PS4 and PC or soon to come out on X1, I don't know why I am asking or bothered either way, I own a 360 a Wii U and 3DS so I have no chance of playing it on any of those..

either way SFV cool :) :)

"real iteration" is subjective, because nearly every top selling game now and days reuse the same material from the previous game and no one bats an eye.

Yes, of course I was referring to a big step, instead of a small one (talking about every aspect of the game, of course... not just graphics).

Like Street Fighter II > Street Fighter III, for instance. They were VERY different.

No it's not. Tekken is the best selling fighting game series of all time, and Tekken 3 is the best selling pure fighting game of all time. The only thing in terms of numbers SF has on Tekken is name recognition.

I'm sorry, I don't know what EVO is. What would've been the right Capcom game?

Tekken 7 would've been the right fighting game for Ps4 man...

If you don't know what EVO is, you don't follow fighting games.

I seriously doubt Xbox owners care. They've already got Killer Instinct as a full exclusive.

And even if they do care, they can just grab it on PC, just like PS fans grabbed Titanfall on PC.

Implying killer instinct is nearly as big as street fighter

Could be a lot of things. Most fighting games tend to sell better on Playstation compared to Xbox for whatever reason, and as of right now the PS4 seems to be the most popular "next-gen" console worldwide. Sony's also likely pitching in money and development assistance, so Capcom may have taken all this information and decided they can forego the development costs and potential profits of an XB1 version without much impact to their bottom line. I believe Arc System Works made a similar decision not too long ago.

This. I was thinking this is usually how it went.

What's this water coming down my face ;_;

Chun and Ryu don't look like cavemen anymore! My prayers have been answered.

My thoughts exactly! Can't wait to see my Cammy.
Unless she is only in the Super SF5 version :c

Hahah the author of that article is here on GAF!

Well... SF is pretty big in the west too. In the US, the Xbone is fairly close in installed base to the PS4, so that may be a good reason, but what do I know?

Well Capcom doesn't seem to mind whoring itself out like that since Nintendo has Monster Hunter,Microsoft has Dead Rising and now Sony has Street Fighter so in the end it's all about $$MONEY$$ to Capcom and less about pleasing it's fans or cultivating an already established fan base.

They forgot to add the logo but wrote "Exclusive to PS4 and PC" instead? That makes no sense.

Clearly the only the trailer was exclusive to PS4/PC. Follow the money.

On a serious note, Sony probably approached Capcom after the whole Tomb Raider thing and and a deal was made. It could honestly just be that simple.

So a bunch of people with zero interest are talking about exclusivity? *goes back to fgw

This. I woke up to Neogaf seeing this thread, proceeded to make audible noises until the trailer was over, look at the discussion and see that it's not about the game at all, its about the fucking console exclusivity. This is a new Street Fighter, and that's what you guys want to talk about? Fuck off. I'll take my hype elsewhere.

I don't understand what port begging is anymore.
