Couldn't Kuvira just crush her body by metal bending the suit of armor
facepalm.gif

I always assumed that Kuvira's plates allowed her to have the accessible metal but here Su is just dead with a mental bend or two

I really wanted that fight to be longer. Loved how she just whipped out that blade and used it as a grappling hook thing as well. Too bad Lin couldn't join in on the fun.
As Woof said it gave me a major Fullmetal Alchemist vibe when Kuvira whipped out the blade. Love seeing metalbenders actually utilizing their abilities, especially with how Su made some quick battle armour.

Someone give me a GIF of Lin's
"Who's Lin's dad"
face please.

Su would probably be able to do that too, but I'm guessing that metalbenders have a way to block other metalbenders from bending their own metal.

I wish that the episode had gone on for longer because it was actually pretty good. The interaction between Lin and Toph was as I expected it to be, but I really wasn't planning on Bolin being the one of all people to get Toph to divulge the long awaited secret of who Lin's father was. I'm a little disappointed that it wasn't Sokka, but then again that's a good thing, because that would mean that Katara is her aunt, making Tenzin her cousin, and that's bad news for everyone.

Fighting choreography was top notch. It's good to see the traditional earthbending form again. I don't hate Korra and Bolin's earthbending boxing style, but the traditional form just looks so much nicer. I'm starting to see the contrast between bending earth and bending metal. Earth requires strong powerful base movements as if the user were trying to cause an earthquake with every move, and metal bending is more fluid because metal doesn't crack off like a piece of rock does. It has to be molded in order to be of any use to anyone.

kuvira fail
Republic City iinavasian. . . zzz. Why would she invade when she already has everything she wants. Can't control the whole world idiot, now she's just another crazy villan

I'm not sure why people are surprised at these events. Everything Kuvira is doing is completely in line with her character and established goals. She's just like every other dictator, conqueror in the Avatar universe Ozai, Azulon, Chin the Conqueror.

Her scope is smaller in comparison since she's only after earth kingdom land (for now) but yes, her reasoning is the same. She sees her new Earth Kingdom as a glorious empire and the war is her way of sharing it with the rest of the Earth Kingdom.

But none of those guys had a Nazi cannon.

I always assumed that same element bending vs bending comes down to how much control you have over the elements being bended. I think of it as force fields, and its easier to bend an element that no one has claimed yet than to bend another one that is already being bended by another hostile force. Push and pull, et al.

Kuvira can try to bend the metal armor but it is being controlled by Su already who is a master metalbender herself. etc.

Anyone thinking Kuvira will stop at historical Earth Kingdom territory is fooling themselves. I'm sure the water and fire nations are on her hit list.

Ozai did. Except he was the cannon. Well, technically a flamethrower, but you get the idea.

Perfecting vine technology is the Korra equivalent of hot air balloon technology in the original series.
I get what you're saying I just don't think the picture of a Zeppelin is synonymous with Nazism the same way that rail artillery is. They were just really blatant with it in this episode. When I saw that thing I was like, "Kuvira just went full Nazi didn't she?"

1. Raiko is the worst leader I've seen in any TV show, I hope the writer's intentions is for us to hate him inmensly.
2. Toph finally putting them Sokka rumors to rest, great.
3. Bolin was actually somewhat tolerable until the end, good thing he finally made a decent plan.
4. That Su v. Kuvira fight, enough said.

Well, she dated Tenzin. That would be her 1st cousin. Not all that uncommon historically, but I find it unlikely in that sophisticated LoK world. People should have abandoned that years ago.

Amazing episode. Really fun, it moved the plot forward and it did one of my favourite things with any TV show and demonstrates that great episodes can still exist without the protagonist being directly involved (this is part of the reason I love the Doctor Who episode 'Blink').

An excellent fight between Suyin and Kuvira, and Toph was amazing as always, and it's a shame she won't be in it more.

2. Toph finally putting them Sokka rumors to rest, great.

Although I agree, Suyin and Lin are only half sisters. It could be that Suyin is Sokka's daughter. Although I don't think that's something we need to know, and I hope it's not brought up again.

That's still a little sketchy. If Sokka is Su's dad, then he's probably Lin's stepdad, so she's technically related by marriage to Tenzin, who she dated.

Toph just slept around, never got tied down to anyone. That seems in-character with her, but not Sokka.

yoooooooooooooooooo that girl Su tho

Literally laying in the cut looking at Kuvira like

and popped up ready to give her that work

might need to rewind that whole lead up

Yeah that was good.

Still doesn't feel like this is the last season, just feels like any other arc. But its been well done so far, so I am content.

kuvira fail

I really don't get how people still seem surprised about this.

The last two episodes have been very disappointing to me.

The vine episode felt kind of pointless. Korra's plot has dragged on way too long, and it's getting frustrating. It was cool that Korra got to meet Zaheer. But her coming to terms with what Zaheer did, just kind of felt clunky to me. Like it wasn't really worth the drawn out plot, and could have been done in like 4 episodes as opposed to the entire season. I feel like this kind of calls back to Book 2's problems, where it feels like very loose ideas that don't really feel that fleshed out. That's how I kind of felt about her meeting Zaheer and her overcoming. It's like okay. And just in the context of the season and what Kuvira is doing, the whole vine side plot (which technically ties into Kuvira), just felt like more time wasted.

This weeks episode also felt a bit clunky to me. The whole Toph resolution felt brushed over. Toph is a real piece of shit. Blaming Lin for their problems. It's true that Lin should have let go and not allowed it to poison her life. But it was laughable at how Su and Toph both view this as Lin being the problem without taking responsibility and understanding why she's upset. It's really infuriating. And it just felt kind of lackluster how they all forgave each other.

Conversely, having them break the family out all to get them back to Republic City, just felt like another side plot that doesn't really progress anything. Same goes for Korra. Just felt like another episode where things are happening, and yet nothing is happening. Basically we are back to square one, just now everyone is in Republic City while we wait for Kuvira to eventually attack.

I think I can honestly say I don't really like this season. The brief fight with Kuvira had some pretty awesome choreography though. LOL at Toph only stepping in at the last minute, and instead of wrecking Kuvira she just points to her and insults her. Yeah, that will tell her.

All in all, these aren't terrible episodes. But nothing special. Very boring season as we go into the end of the series.

Kuvira going after Republic City was predictable. Kind of a strange final plot for the series tbh. And as someone said earlier, the real plot this season is Korra being her own worst enemy. She herself is the villain. Because she could kick Kuviras ass if she wasn't holding her self back. I just find this to be a really frustrating plot for the end of a series. And I haven't been a big fan of how they've even handled her story. Just feels grating and drawn out.

This season has felt weird for me. It's supposed to be this epic conflict, but it all feels very small scale and insignificant. Kuvira isn't a believable or intimidating villain. Sure, her ideas are supposed to sway people, but we've never seen why anyone would actually sympathize with her. She just feels propped up. And an irrelevant villain to what will be the final season of this show. And Korra does very little this season as well. All the previous seasons involved Korra learning something about herself, the world, or the Avatar. This season was just "mustache twirling villain wants the whole world, and we will stop her".

Amon had ideals, he was truly scary, and he could easily be related with.
Unalaq played everyone really well using politics. Vaatu was literally a force of nature and his end goal made total sense as such.
Zaheer was menacing and he had a philosophy. He was truly a dangerous foe but he also was right in his own way.
Kuvira is just evil and her goals are generic. She doesn't really stand for anything. She's too crazy to sympathize with. She's not really powerful as a person or as a leader. It's just that team avatar has been fucking up non stop all season.

meh. What a shame.

Kuvira just does evil shit for no logical reason now. There's barely even an explanation for why she's building a Nazi train cannon. I like her from a fighting stand point, but she's barely an actual character. The only time where she acted like a person was because she was getting her domination fix in while fighting Korra. She could've been good and sympathetic even had they actually written some actual motivation for her to be doing this outside of "somebody had to do it." Yeah sure somebody had reunite the earth kingdom. Everybody understands that, but there's no reason for her to be attacking republic city or making spirit nukes. Yes I know Republic City was built on old Earth Kingdom territory, but yeesh, this just isn't proper motivation.

I would say Kuvira is literally Hitler.
But at least Hitler had something resembling a personality.

They might as well name the next ep "Return to Castle Kuvirastein" and her final boss form is her as a cyborg. She metal bends into her cyborg suit and starts screaming like Stroheim from Jojo, "Nazi metal bending science is the number one science in the world!!!"

I had liked her earlier in the season and always though an effort to reclaim Repblic City would be a logical end game. I had thought she would have the menace of 'Wrath' from FMA manga as a military leader. A united Earth kingdom could feel menacing by shear size and industry much like China today,

Spirit nukes are a unnecessary diversion. Like most 'big bomb' plot in movies and TV, it just feels like a short cut to raise the stakes. i don't understand why they would ignore her for chunk in the middle of the season.

Wow, people are harsh. I think Kuvira is a very clear character and her motiviations have been consistent. She wants to perserve peace through a showing of force and advances in technology. She uses her force to scare people into following her and working to strengething her hold. She thinks she knows best for the world and that is what she has shown us throughout this season.

She is showing strength and getting ready to attack because she knows that they will not allow her to keep the power and "peace" she has amassed and created. She wants to cripple them into submitting most likely.

I know. The woman has a past, they took the time out to mention that she's an orphan, but she really needs some flashback scenes. We need to see her wandering the street as a literal girl alone without her parents. Maybe her making it to Zao Fu and fainting only to be found by Su, Su training her as a kid...something...humanize her, my fucking God, I like the character and they're pissing me off with her treatment. She's like season 1 Vegeta or something.

We get the strength through force argument, but I just want something...anything that makes her seem like an actual person. I know not everybody is a supposed to be morally grey as a villain and this show has never really done that, but I just find it odd how she's so one note. She doesn't need to put people in slave camps to get her point across for example. I guess my problem is that she lacks conviction. She's got this cause, but nothing really telling us why she's the one that has to do this to the degree that she's doing it. I also feel that there's just a good amount of narrative potential with Kuvira that they're really just ignoring.

That fight was fucking sweet. Again, I've enjoyed these last two episodes more than any since the first two, but I pretty much agree with all the complaints so far.

That would be a better ending than what we'll get, I bet.

Even with him being underdeveloped, at least Ozai had a reason for the things he was doing. He was a product of the Fire Nation propaganda machine and was swimming in the koolaid his grandpa made. He was a racial supremist and cruel because of his jealousy over things like Iroh being loved by dear old dad, being first born, etc.

What is Kuviras deal? Why is she doing any of these things?

To unite the earth kingdom
Oh wait she did that already
Sigh

The only thing that stuck out as bad to me was

Why in the grand blue fuck would you hold the metal incriminating mechanism in your inner jacket pocket? chuck that sumbitch somewhere

Means to an end I guess, but sheesh.

Exactly my thought. Of all the "things" Zhu Li didn't do...

Ok I have a question.

If the weapon is for all intents and purposes a giant laser, why does the railway gun need a massively long barrel since maintaining accuracy over long distances wouldn't be an issue?

She looks an awful lot like Tenzin with a wig in the shot.

The episode had an ok concept, but my god, the lack of subtlety is worse than ever. Most jokes made me smile, but there were an awful lot of them that worked as jokes, but made the person who cracked them worse persons.

because the bigger it is the more evil it is

This is what I have been asking, he desire to reforge the Earth Kingdom by any mean necessary was actually well established and believable and all that jazz. Ever since she basically won it has been generic tyrant tropes. Yea, yea, she is coming to attack Republic City, but why, does she see it as part of the old Earth Kingdom, does she see them as a threat, does she want to make an example out of them with her Mako Cannon?

taking out the train cannon should be the easiest thing in the world. Just fly over it and lava-/metal-bend it to oblivion/ throw some bombs on it. I mean, they already have planes and bombs in that universe, you don't even need Korra or Bolin for this

wait, why do we use spoiler tags

We only use them before the episode hits Nick.com.

It's immune to attacks until you destroy the heat sinks and it spawns permanently troops. We need to pierce it with a giant magic lance first.
