I don't even really care about the game, but wow.

I love the dude in the bottom right.

"Ya'll seeing this shit, right?"

It's not like they said they're NOT doing a remake like 1000 times over, if you actually expected one, you only have yourself to blame.

Gotta disagree with you there.

I had given up on a remake a long time ago, but the way this re-release was presented, it was done intentionally to make people think it was a HD remake, it was a full on troll and I fell for it hard.

Fuck SE.

Hahahaha I know but come onnn

That moment was ridiculous

It was beautifully brutal. I saw him come out, and immediately thought that hey, maybe it's some FF15 news or trailers or some such.

MEH!

But when the reveal came and went, it took everything to stop laughing; it was perfect. Intentional or no, that was the best dark humor I've ever seen in a live setting. Best part was clicking through 10 or so sites seeing THEIR reactions and damn.

Schadenfreude Ultima. Square has it in spades. This might sound conspratorical, but I'm damn sure that Square knew what they were doing.

All hyperbole aside- Is this the greatest announcement troll of all time?

I'm struggling to think of something more trollish.

In a nutshell it's both a combination of FF fans being fucking crazy and Square-Enix upper Japanese brass being completey out of touch with fans and refusing to change that has led to this current mess.

All of the folks saying "they'll buy it again" are proof enough as to why Square Enix will NEVER remake FFVII and why they're content to troll their "still loyal" fanbase.

Blaming people for thinking it was announcing a remake as dumb is weird because the general reaction has universally been "OMG ITS HAPPENING/FUCK YOU" because they clearly presented it as such.

Yup. I was going to go through this thread and requote everyone saying it, but not even worth that.

Best part is they are going to probably charge $20+ for this.

The only thing that upset me about this event was this FFVII announcement. It did not need stage time. To even acknowledge that it came out 17 years ago yet change NOTHING about it is embarrassing, especially since he made it seem unique.

I cannot understand how or why Sony invited Hashimoto to go on stage and present this. It was even worse than FFXIV's announcement.

Maybe that mystery game is FFVII Remake? Hey, you never know ;)

I just think it's too convenient Square would do this and leave it at that. It's such a spit-in-the-face to PS fans and their own fanbase. Leaving it as-is will kill them over time.

But if they're willing to take a day of internet hate for years of praises w/ "that" kind of surprise tomorrow, then I'd say it's worth doing.

The thing I wonder about is, I know a full blown FF7 remake in the style that everybody wants would probably be too expensive for Square and that's probably true, but at some point I wonder if it would make more financial sense for Square to skip a mainline FF and sink that money/resources into a remake. Would it potentially be more successful?

dont do this to yourself man...

Hahahahaha holy shit I can't believe they did this! This HAS to be on purpose right? What was the point, did SE actually expect people to be hyped for a PC port?

Also, isn't the original version superior to the PC port? I remember my friend had it back in the day, the music was a lot worse IMO.
