I just think it's too convenient Square would do this and leave it at that. It's such a spit-in-the-face to PS fans and their own fanbase. Leaving it as-is will kill them over time.

But if they're willing to take a day of internet hate for years of praises w/ "that" kind of surprise tomorrow, then I'd say it's worth doing.

I think its noteworthy that Sony are not even bothering putting a PS blog post up for this announcement even though everything else got one.

So this is like, what, the 3rd or 4th time SE trolls about FFVII now?
It's hilarious TBH.

Anyone expecting a full blown next-gen remake is just setting themself up for disappointment. We're talking about a company still working on a game announced 8 years ago.

It definitely would be expensive as hell for a game as epic in scale as FF7. And I think it depends how they would remake. They would probably try to "modernize" it to appeal to new fans/gamers, which could probably piss off old fans. So probably not as successful as just making a new one.

Tbh I didn't expect a remake. When that trailer started rolling and showed the PS1 graphics I was hoping it would transition into at least an HD remaster. Which would have been a serviceable announcement for a conference...

I knew deep down they wouldn't even bother with that though. Probably when they rerelease it on iOS it will get its HD version. lol
 
It should be obvious by now that current SE is incapable of remaking this game, nobody wants to do it.

They should be focusing on finishing KH 3 and freaking FFXV for now.

The problem is that there is no style that everybody wants.

People act like there is consensus on an FF7 remake, but everyone wants something different out of it. To accommodate even a majority of those asking for a remake, SE would need to mke a straight up remake with hd assets but no changes, another with fully realized 3D environments but in the style of the original, and a third with 3D environments but the tone and style of advent children with a new battle system, and that would still leave people pissed and disappointed.
 
And what in the hell was he talking about LittleBigPlanet for? Could not understand what the fuck he was talking about..was it the FF7 remake that a fan did what they could not?
 
I was willing to settle not for a full HD release with high poly models and special effects but a FFIV/FFIII style remake. One where they capture the chibi nature of the character but with more detail and better textures and remade backgrounds (either pre-rendered but nicer res or 3D) but nope, not even that (in my opinion) reasonable expectation will happen.

i think they think it will cost too much money to do it, and i understand that but dont fucking troll us with this. its fine its coming to ps4 put to announce it like its a super big deal. i just want to see more FF15 and KH3 and wish they just showed one of those two. there PR team needs to be fired becase they always do dumb ass shit like this.
 
No one went into this event thinking "Oh, a remake for FF7 is coming!" but when Hashimoto comes out, starts hyping up FF7, talking about how long it's been since it came out, and then says it's now returning three generations later, the first thing going through people's minds wasn't really, "Oh, he hyped the game up so much ... it must be a port!" >_>
