Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

I like that the enemy tried to hold on for dear life instead of an automatic kill like in AC for example.

Yeah, very cool.

The new hook mechanic implies that we will see larger and more vertical levels than previous Uncharteds, looking forward to seeing more at E3.

That's not really a good general rule of thumb. Example: Ubisoft.

If the end product is exactly like this I'll be more than happy. My only concerns are AI related really, and am hoping the released game lives up to the gameplay promise shown here, but those visuals and animations look amazing to me.

Well we are talking about SCE and not Ubisoft. For example GOWIII had huge improvements from E3 2009 demo to final build.

Hey guy's

I hate to be that guy, but did anyone think of downgrade when the Uncharted 4 Demo was shown?

Although the graphical fidelity and gameplay were absolutely terrific, i could not stop thinking on what we were shown at E3 earlier this year and what we being shown now. Below is just a comparison of the in game cut scene.

All in all the game look terrific all round.

the first is an in engine cutscene, the second is gameplay

every uncharted has had great looking cutscenes, then the graphics downgrade a bit as it transitions to gameplay. gameplay still looks great, just not as good. i'd expect this one to be no different

Just re-watched the video. Damn, it looks like a lot of fun. The gameplay looks so dynamic and the level design is great. Looking back at The Order footage is jarring.

It's so sad that graphics are more important than gameplay now. Should publishers stop showing alpha gameplay footage and stick to CG trailers?

Color me unimpressed, really surprised the rock textures and shading weren't better based on who's making it. This is sub 60 too? Jesus, if ND can't make this look golden who the hell can? And don't answer The Order, super confined environments don't count. I have a PS4 and this game was one of the reasons I got it, seriously disappointed by what's on view here. Hope there's a massive tweak to everything overall in time for release.

.....what about the gameplay?

The best thing about this whole reveal is, that it's all on this lush and dense island.

Now the full game just needs to be contained to this location and we'll have a game, that can finally surpass the original Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Let's see.

-Character model seems to be the same.
-Different environment.
-Different time of day.
-Different lighting.

Not a very good comparison, bro. Why don't we wait to see the scene from the trailer in the final game and compare them then?

Definitely more DoF and under ideal lighting in that scene.

I think this is one thing people don't quite get. The screen of the teaser is not something you achieve with a single light source coming from the moon. It uses tree point lighting like a film. When I mentioned before that the light is a step down I am referring to having to add more lights into the scene in order to have those highlights, fill, and key, plus the light in the background that is probably different from the one used on the character model.

Yes the gameplay we saw today is arguably a downgrade because it features simpler light. But this cutsence should not be compared to a transition to gameplay, because the cinematographer/graphic artist can't have that control to light it as nicely if you give the camera to the player.

Love how there's no chromatic aberration, practically no lens flares, no lens dirt/smudge, no motion blur or other annoying filmic crap. There's depth of field, but it's luckily done in a smart and subtle way.

The trees and vegetation in particular look amazing, bet they invested a lot of time in that tech. Wonder if that means jungle will be the primary setting.

This is stuff we've seen for a good while now. Co'mon. Not saying anything else about the rest of what we saw. But getting excited over that is hilarious.

GPU ain't doing that. Attention to detail is.

Nah, we've seen him get wet from water before, but not quite like that and not mid-brawl over time I don't think. And yes, I agree it's attention to detail.

I think the thing that's degrading on this demo is the following things:

1) While the foliage looks like it received a lot of attention, the textures themselves seem to have suffered. The Nathan clothes don't look very detailed at all.. and the rocks lack a lot of detail (almost looking cartoony). The rocks may clearly be an artistic decsion but they look very bland.

2) Shadow maps are low res

3) The water doesn't look very good. I was more impressed with UC3's water system.

4) Not enough particles are flying around to make the scene look believable.

5) The lighting seems the same as in TLoU. Definitely not a step up like some of the more modern games.

Also, we all need to keep in mind that this engine was revised.. and not a ground-up rewrite like most of the newer games are implementing.

For the last time, there is no downgrade, only difference in time of day and zoom in focus with a blur with the E3 trailer, also wetness.

Running above 15fps in prealpha is often an achievement.

Indeed AC Unity was rumoured to be running at 9FPS 8 months before release, so if they are already at 30... thats very good news indeed.

Personally I thought it looked awesome. Cant believe people are saying it looks poor or expected something different...it's an uncharted game, people want it to be uncharted, not totally change the gameplay.

The gunplay looked very exciting.

Nathan looks like crap, in the sense that he's seen some shit, more so than the other games.

Possible big loss in the beginning?

That was fucking incredible, just seen the Gamersyde video, obviously it's not on the teaser level but it looks so fucking good, even better than The Order when we take into account the Vast and beautiful environment compared to the limited and pathetic scope of the latter, and the gameplay looks so much improved and open, fuck I'm so excited, I never expected it to be that good, and i grew tired of this franchise after 3, this is my most anticipated game for next year.

ND are incredible.
