Final Fantasy VII Announced For PS4

If anything hurts SE "bad" it would probably put them out of business at this point so that's the last thing I want.

People who worry SE is going out of business are kidding themselves in my opinion. My understanding is that most of their titles are doing phenomenally well, especially when it comes to certain cash-ins. Either way, I wasn't referring to harming them financially. Final Fantasy remains my favorite franchise and I don't want to see anything happen that would hurt it.

I more meant I want the response to this nonsense to be so acidic and vengeful that SE has no choice but to address it, even if all we get is an acknowledgement. Fat chance, I know. They pulled the wool over my eyes by actually having halfway decent PR for XV and its tumultuous development these past few months.

This is one of the most tremendous PR blunders I have ever seen. Saying that as a long-time Square Enix fan, so I know tremendous PR blunders. I mean... What were they thinking? What was the goal? They know a remake is a huge desire of the fanbase, and they bring this on-stage in the middle of a huge event full of massive reveals.

I only hope the backlash hurts them and hurts them bad, or they have something better to show.

They know they can get away with it. People will still buy this PS4 port of a PC port of a PS1 game. People will still buy FFXV in the millions.

Frankly, if this is the way they plainly tell the whole world that a full remake will never arrive, it was a brilliant way to do it than to remain oh so coy about how ohhh they need to surpass FFVII first before they can remake it, etc.

FF7 can't be remade. It just won't work. For every serious scene like the assault on the Mako reactor or Weapon attacking Junon, you have silly shit like making a dolphin jump to propel you up or Cait Sith being Cait Sith.

FF7 wasn't just designed with rough, chibi graphics, it required them. You replace those with HD, CGI-quality character models and the whole thing just falls apart.

Uhhhh remake it with HD chibi style character models outside of battle and use less stylized ones in battle. You know, like the way it is in the game.

Why does a remake have to super realistic?

At first I squealed like a little girl...

Then I shouted like a mad man...

FUCK YOU SE

best troll ever

Old and jaded gamer here who nowadays almost never expects anything but holy shit...epic troll if ever. Was actually pissed for a moment...worth it for the lol's though.

But seriously, WTF were they thinking - how in the hell could this EVER be a good idea to put in the anniversary conference?!?!?

I honestly wouldn't mind if that were to happen. They'd likely be bought out by a significantly more competent publisher who would actually give people a glorious FFVII remake within the PS4's lifespan.

As bitter and disappointed as I am by this "announcement" I'm actually kind of happy about it now because I don't trust SE to actually be able to make a remake/remaster of FFVII that would actually do the game justice and they would just mess it up.

When SE release a high quality AAA FF game that proves they are back on form then they can do it but with the shambles the FF franchise is in at the minute I would sooner they just left FFVII alone.

Really? They've done enough with 4. 6 got airbrushed into oblivion; 4 had a sequel as well as an actual (and then an enhanced version of that) remake.

Wasn't debating how much was done.
Was refuting that 6 and 7 are the only ones fans go gaga for.

It's possible to have funny scenes and good graphics.

Is the keynote available online anywhere? I'd like to watch the Final Fantasy VII announcement just to hear the reaction of the people in the crowd.

Man, I love FFVII as much as anybody, but am I alone in thinking that the SE of today would just butcher a remake? That alone makes me kind of not wanting to see one happen and just leave my memories of FFVII as the amazing game we already have.

I hate that Square has Sony
(or any of the big 3 really)
by the balls, they do w'e the fuck they want, damn that was awful D:

Metal Gear has been, generally, one of the most advanced games on its respective platforms when it comes to graphics and it's been, generally, bordering on the absurd or, at the very least, has absurd elements to it. I think modern graphics, with FFVII general aesthetics would absolutely work in its favour, a stand out title.

Can't believe Sony would put this on Stage, and at the end of the show too.

I guess this was that "announcement that will make people rage" lol

people who pray for SE to go bankrupt - never finishing FFXV and KH3 - just so they can have what is probably going to be a mediocre FF7-remake.. What are you guys thinking?

Relax......

To be honest, I wasn't paying much attention to what Hashimoto was saying so I thought they were using FFVII to finally announce PS1 support on PS4.

Still a disappointment.

Widescreen? HD backgrounds?

I must admit that all the hype before the event really made me want a FF7 remake, but I would actually much rather have SE put resources into developing new (console) titles.

I'm actually somewhat ok with this although I agree that it wasn't exactly the best move.

Uhhmmm.. why was this even considered to be worthy of being showed on stage? What would've been worthy if Sony just said that they'll support PS1(/2) playback from physical discs. This? No thanks.

Either give us backwards compatibility with PS1/2 games or at least put some effort into older games that are being re-released.

Modder says hello!

This was definitely trolling at its finest. SquareEnix knows exactly what the fans want, and now they are just teasing.

I missed the stream over at Gamekult, apparently the reaction was priceless :

It's barely a 3am press releases on a Tuesday morning caliber of announcement. Sony knew exactly what they were doing with this shameful shit and should definitely take a deep bow for this one.

It can work, with a bit of imagination and if you don't hold the source material as sacred. FF7 should be reimagined, kinda like the way Silent Hill was reimagined into Shattered Memories. Whatever wouldn't work, adapt it, don't be afraid to change bits and pieces of the story.

It doesn't (and shouldn't) be hyper realistic. Legitimately keeping the proportions and stylized visuals with detailed models wouldn't ruin any of that.

They should do this again for FF8, but this time it actually IS a remake.

I would love it very much, best FF.
