Final Fantasy VII Remake + ReShade Mod = Jaw-dropping Visuals in 2025

"Jaw-dropping Visuals in 2025"
Why everyone talk like an influencer trying to sell you something now a day.
Hyperbole are overused and make the people using them less credible.

This Cyberpunk one looks fake. What's the catch?
The catch is path-tracing.

It's the reason I'm very much looking forward to RT/PT being built-in for next gen consoles.

It's why I hate all of this talk lately of people wanting to stop when it comes to graphics, when we are inches away from a finish line.

Edit: Here's another Cyberpunk video, same reshade with a 'bodycam' mod:

Regardless, I don't want to derail and turn this into a Cyberpunk thread. I just wanted to make the point that FF7R isn't graphically good enough for a reshade to make a difference.

As usual, it's never as simple as 'all or nothing' when it comes to things. There are good reshades and bad reshades, so they're better off being judged on a case by case basis.

Here's an example of a good one:

Aside from that, I agree with you that Final Fantasy 7 Remake doesn't really need it, but I'm not saying this for the same reason you are. I'm saying this because FF7R isn't really enough of a graphical powerhouse for reshade to make any big difference 🤷‍♂️

Nah, this is not a good Reshade

It may look amazing in certain segments, but I'm sure that its not the case during cutscenes or other lighting conditions. Ive never seen a Reshade that improves every scene of the game.

Specially in a narrative focused game such as Cyberpunk, where each cutscene has lighting handmade by devs, it can completely ruin the experience. I havent seen a Cyberpunk Reshade video with cutscenes, and heres why.

I would like to find a full playthrough of this mod just to show what I mean.

Thanks for all the feedback, both positive and critical. Really interesting to read how differently people are perceiving the mod!

A few clarifications from my side:

1. The preset aims for more cinematic contrast, not just saturation
It's not just cranking saturation or sharpness. There's some filmic tonemapping, better ambient occlusion, and color grading applied to bring out depth, especially in darker environments. In motion, it really helps characters and scenes "pop" more without being overprocessed (though that's always subjective).

2. Screenshots don't do it justice
Completely agree with those saying screenshots flatten the effect. In motion, lighting transitions, reflections, and skin shaders stand out far more with this Reshade mod.

3. Not trying to "fix" the game, just enhance it for personal taste
The base game already looks good. But for me, this reshade made it feel closer to what I imagined from the early trailers or Advent Children, more dramatic lighting, punchier contrast, and better texture depth.

That said, I totally get if it's not for everyone, visual taste is super subjective.

I love reshade. Run psuedo-CRT effects with CRT-Royale to play a lot of JRPG remakes (Visions of Mana, Romancing Saga 2: RoS)

Most of these games have smaller budgets and target HD visuals instead of 4k, so the soft and blur effect of the filter hides some of that lack of detail.

It's because you didn't know the name of the reshade. The reshade is called "Dreampunk" and so far they are on version 3.1. Here is a video of a mission with the shader on (fair warning this guy's framerate is not fully stable due to how taxing path tracing can be):

I'm sure you could find a full playthrough somewhere on twitch if you look hard enough. Unfortunately it will have to be someone with using a 5070 or up. The RT/PT version of the game is the latest GPU filter (like what Crysis used to be).

The devs themselves applied ray tracing and path tracing updates. One of the biggest benefits of RT/PT is to apply more realistic lighting and reflections automatically to any possible scene so that they don't have to spend an obscene amount of time making sure every little bit of lighting is 'handmade'. The reshade tunes that lighting to look more naturalistic with a slight hint of cinematic flair to it.

Whilst I do agree in general (the vast majority of Reshade mods suck), it does depend on the mod itself and the shaders that it's making use of. If you look at something like Marty's Mods' IMMERSE suite of shaders, it's a lot more complex and in certain areas very impressive.

But yes, FF7R vanilla looks good enough for me.

I must be in the minority because I like this tweaks like in this vid.
