Final Fantasy VII Announced For PS4

Initially, I was excited when I read the thread title. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be the announcement of a re-release. That's pretty amusing. SquareEnix is completely oversaturating the worth of FVII. The announcement is disproportionate compared to its content.

I think his point is that those are upscaled screenshots, PS1 version was rendered at a much lower res with no texture filtering.
 
So much heartbreak... not cool. Was thinking SE finally gave in and rolled the dice on a FFVII remake. Well played SE, well played.

I am going to lay down and recover for a while.

SE are either imbeciles or bastards though. No way anyone could have thought this would have gone down well unless they were completely out of touch with their fanbase.

Maybe they even think this IS what fans have been asking for, and that this is a remake in SE's minds? That would explain why Sony would let them on stage certainly. If anyone at Sony knew this was just a port and still let it go on them they need to be fired.

I think that is another problem. I haven't followed the series or recent news to well till the recent FFXIII Steam launches peaked my interest and I started on VII. Someone mentioned in another thread "imagine if Valve did that with one of their games" - I can definitely see how people could be livid

This is what I'm gonna do when I build my PC after graduation, can the same be done with the PC rerelease of VIII?

Those are pics of the PC version I have, steam version.

In all reality the battles DO look better. But man the horrible pre-rendered backgrounds along with the sharper polys of the characters looks pretty horrible. And they also got some 5th grader to apply some horrible shading to each polygon to give the illusion of 3D on the poly. it looks pretty horrible sometimes

We'll see. Will be kind of nice to just sit down with the DS4 and just play FFVII. IF I decide to get it.
 
I'll buy it again on PS4. I have no shame. They know people will buy it. It is what it is.

But you can't tell me that as soon as the crowd made the roar after he said, "After 17 long years" that he didn't know what we all were expecting. Nobody is that out of touch. I'd also like to bet that, for a brief second, that little voice in his head was saying "hey maybe this isn't a good idea."
 
I will be buying for sure. I dig the crispness of the enemy and character models. I'm sure I am a bad gamer because of this but I don't give a shit.

Glass half full for me, I think this is a troll, but not the troll people are assuming it is. I'm glass half full until I see Sundays mystery game :)
 
I didn't get to watch the last half of the show. Got to work, checked GAF, saw the FF7 headline and nearly wept with joy.

Then my blood turned to pure rage.

Fuck you SE.

Yup. My mind didn't want to believe what it was seeing... not after the huge amount of adrenaline that just got pumped into my body as hype.

This is a SICK fucking joke, why the hell do SE play with their fans hearts like this? They know what almost all of us want, but they continue to taunt us with these fucking rereleases that we don't really care about. How many times can they release the psx/pc version of this game and try to excite us for it with their bullshit comments about how it's what we want, when in reality, they fucking know what we want but just continue to play dumb. Release an HD version of FF7 or just quit re-releasing it, period.
 
I'm disappointed that it's only a port of the PC port, but hey any excuse to replay The Greatest Game Of All Time again is welcome.

At least the character models, world map and battle areas will have a significantly higher resolution than the PS1 game, and there will be trophies too. So it looks like I'll be buying it again for the third time and replaying it for what must be at least the tenth.
 
I don't care that it's a port rather than a remake (I actually highly question how good a full on AAA remake really would be), but I WOULD want a remaster. Retranslate it, put in high-res assets where they exist (seeing Wasp's XIII avatar makes me think about how it'd be nice to have that sort of stuff in-game), try to touch up the backgrounds, see if gameplay can be 60 fps since it may as well be given how low end it is, seriously retranslate it. Just a straight port of the PC version is... OK, better than nothing, but really not something I want to jump at either.

High reward extremely low cost.

The only way to really tell square enix we thought what they did was bullshit was not to buy it.

It costs them literally pennies to put it on ps4. Yet they could end up making a ton of free money if people buy it.

At this point I hope Microsoft just funds the project. Then they open up E3 with Final Fantasy 7 remake. Ill go out and buy xbox one on that day.

"Hey, remember that game that so perfectly displayed the strengths of the original Playstation? Well, what better time to announce that the enhanced PC port is coming to the PS4?!"

There were two big problems with this announcement: Hashimoto's ridiculous enthusiasm, and how mediocre the PC port is.
 
Haha hahaha oh wow. I read the thread title and was like "holy shit they're actually doing it" then opened the thread and just starting laughing.
 
Was this the announcement that some teased about being bigger than street fighter v exclusivity?


Because this was a pretty shitty thing for SE to do. Feel like sony could just add ps1 emulation and we could play it with that.
