Yeah, a remake probably isn't happening now.
It makes me wish the game industry had developers who can clone iconic franchises and give them justice. If someone could make their own Final Fantasy 7 competitor, then I would be done with Squenix.

Will this have trophies or is it just a ps1 classics release on PS4?
PC version has achievements so probably will have trophies.
Square Enix will never remake Final Fantasy VII, because that would be admitting that they will never top VII and that they were wasting their time for the last 17 years of aimlessly trying to hit the same level of success twice. As long as they never remake FFVII they can keep the charade running indefinitely even though no talented person still works on Final Fantasy anymore.

The only reason Square is still around is thanks to KH and the lack of major competition. The closest two competitors to FF are Persona and Tales. Let them keep digging that hole someone'll push them over in it eventually.
They toped VII. VIII & VI is much better.

I don't see how that indicates that when SE have remade SEVERAL of the other mainline FF games.
Not the point. It's not about your personal opinion of which is best, it's about commercial success.
They can remake other Final Fantasies indefinitely (and they will), they do not have the same cultural impact that remaking FFVII would, at all.

The Vita can play PS1 games, though.
Well, if we're considering top-to-bottom remakes, the last ones they've done are Final Fantasy IV and its direct sequel The After Years (both have been remade twice, once in 2D and again in 3D). V and VI have only gotten enhanced ports, not remakes.
If they're going in order, then VII is a ways off.

Did you watch Konami's E3 2010 conference? Also, Sony E3 2006 has to be up there.
This announcement was hilarious, though. Not sure why people were expecting Square Enix, of all developers, to listen to their fans and actually announce a remake a lot of people have been clamoring for.
The PS1 classic is on Vita better, because you can map the direction controls to the analog stick, which is not possible on the PS3. Which makes playing FFVII Classic a pain in the thumb.

Yesterday, I was kind of disappointed in the direction that Square Enix was going. About the only thing I wanted from them was Kingdom Hearts 3, since FFXV doesn't excite me at all. And that's only if Sora gets to fight Darth Vader with twin KeyLightSabers.

Still in disbelief that this actually happened, Lol. Who thought this was a good idea. Why did Sony seriously let this happen. Why was Hashimoto so excited to announce a PC port for PS4. Why can't I just play the version of FF7 I got on PSN years ago on my PS4. So many questions and no answers. I'm surprised that they didn't just go full troll mode and play that little FF7 remake teaser they made for PS3 years ago before leading into actual gameplay footage of the PS4 version. They got me good though, I have to give them that. I had tears in my eyes because I thought they were gonna announce a remake, despite how little sense it actually made.

I think they'll basically need to give anyone who owns the PS1 classic the PS4 version free because, you know what, it's the exact same game. The changes made to the PC version were so minimal over the PS1 version, I don't know how they can justify charging people for this AGAIN.
