Final Fantasy VII Announced For PS4

For some reason, when I read PC port, I thought of the original PC version of FF7, not the more recent port, so in my head, it was even more hilarious.

Also, the only reason I bought the recent PC port was to mess around with mods, which I doubt you'll be able to do on PS4, so yeah... still pretty hilarious.

I don't think there's that much of a distinction. The steam version is the 1998 Eidos PC version with a few tweaks, I believe.

That's the funny thing though, there have been fan-made texture packs that upgrade the PC version of FF7's visual style around for years. Even if SE didn't want a full-blown remake right now, at least a high-res upgrade option for the original would be appreciated.
 
The funniest part was when they were showing the 4:3 gameplay footage I kept half expecting it to change into the remake footage. That doesn't exist

Maybe the Sony higher ups jizzed theor pants to soon when the SE executive said that they want to announce FFVII on the PS4, LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE ON THE FUCKING PLANET.

I do think Square spectacularly gaffed yesterday in how they played up their empty announcement... but I do think that the fan expectation for a remake was always a kind of mass hysteria. There never was a remake. We should never expect a remake.

Previous tech demos had FFVI characters on an N64-calibre SGI workstation... no one expected that remake.

Or FFVIII's Balamb Garden ballroom scene tech demo in real-time on PS2... no one expected that remake.

Put a tech demo of FFVII on PS3, and 8.5 years later, we're still reeling from the effects of fan expectation for a remake ..... :P

Are we all holding our breath for the Agni's Philosophy game at this point? I guess not, because it doesn't have a fanboy army misinterpreting it.

It's all good, I have never been that bothered about FF. I would have liked to have played a remake though for sure. Plus it would have been such massive news which is always fun

Well to be fair a standard port of a 17 year old game that has been already ported for many platforms is hardly keynote slot material, so people read mor into the context
 
A simple Tweet a few days before the conference saying - 'Hey PS4 fans - next spring enjoy the PC version of FFVII for a low price' = disdain and hate avoided

Most people hope this is coming since the FF7 PS3 tech demo. Also the build up was gigantic with Shinji Hashimoto coming on stage during a key Sony event with the FF7 logo behind him. Combine high hopes with a huge build up and you get the best troll ever.

The conference reveal itself could have been structured in such a way that tempered expectations.

The way it was presented implied that the showrunners had zero clue about the expectation of a full AAA remake in the fan community.

You just don't bring out a logo and a Japanese exec trying to pump the crowd with enthusiasm. That was wrong.

A few of those sound challenging, and, fun. However, the majority sound insignificant and unexciting for a game of such a large scale. I'm probably asking for too much but I would've liked seeing a full achievement-set per disc. Wishful thinking anyway.

Because you hate your fans?

SE know fans have been asking for a remake for 10 years. And this is how they treat them. By rereleasing the same game and milking the fans of any interest. If they want to burn their money, sure by all means. But don't treat your fans like this in the process.

Myself have no interrest in FF7, but I know the fans are purely in love with the game. Some assholes SE are.
 
I've never laughed so hard at a announcement. At least it's graphics are upgraded so I'll buy depending on price.

I'll laugh even harder if they price this at 40$ or more.
 
A FF7 remake is not going to happen, and this will look better than the PS1 version on my Vita so i'll definitely pick this up on the PS4.
 
I know the remake/remaster problem will be the pre-rendered backgrounds... so why not rework with the 3D models and textures of the characters and the world?

I know it'll look akward... but can they keep the resized 4:3 aspec ratio with backgrounds, and a 1080p 16:9 retextured and remodeled characters in combat and world map?

or maybe do something like REmake HD and make the 4:3 backgrounds 16:9 backgrounds that follow the character?
 
this is what happens when a bunch of older japanese men in suits that live in a bubble and are completely unaware of what are people's expectations and perceptions on a global scale makes decisions.

this very much exploded in their faces and rightfully so.

fuck a PC port.
 
I still can't get over how insane this troll was and how Sony actually thought this would be a good idea. Like the endless clamoring over the remake could be satiated with a port of FFVII PC lol

they had to know how hard they were trolling hardcore gamers. It had to be intentional. They can't be that oblivious, can they? haha

with pre-rendered 4:3 backgrounds to make they look 16:9, and rework the textures and 3d models in combat and the world map?

And release a 16:9 1080p/60 remastered game? instead of a 4:3 upscaled game? This really shouldn't be that hard...

Maybe they thought this is the best of a bad situation.

By remaking they will never please everyone. (Keep turn based or not, mini games etc etc), so maybe it's the safer option not to change it and just release the port? Maybe they think better to mildly annoy everyone than totally alienate the core fanbase who wouldn't like a change. Maybe modern square is incapable of remaking this? Not sure as ff15 is looking pretty good. Certainly the mother of all trolls if they meant it but I'm wondering whether they thought people would just like to replay on current gen. To be honest, yes a remake is my most wanted thing (tied with Shenmue) but I'm happy I will get to play it again with trophies
