In case you doubted: PSX will be an annual event from now on

Glorious, absolutely glorious!

Nice! Hopefully they mix it up with venues. No I don't think it'll impact the announcements at e3. We had a lot of games yesterday and many of them weren't from the 1st party devs. I hope I can go next year :D

Wouldn't mind an early announcement of the next location, would love to go to something like this but living in the UK its quite expensive. Being able to book certain things a year in advance would make it much more affordable.

Good it was really enjoyable. People need to temper their high expectations next time of game announcements (read: megatons) and everyone can enjoy it.

So do you think this will motivate Microsoft to have a similar show again? Nintendo? Will this impact the type of announcements we get at E3 (as if they're saving them for their own show where they can better control the messaging)?

Microsoft only ever has stuff for E3 lately. I don't think they have enough yearly stuff to support Gamescom, TGS, and TGA, let alone an additional conference. They weren't even present for TGS and TGA, and the only thing they had to show for Gamescom was announcing timed exclusivity on a previously announced title without any gameplay shown. I highly doubt they'd be able to support another conference.

Nintendo needs a guaranteed big event each year around this time, like the Fall Conference they used to have and haven't since 2011. 2012 was close but was called the Wii U Preview Event.

Directs are great, but they need a concentrated event to really unload the announcements at. Other than E3, we've barely had anything all-new from Nintendo so far other than Majora's Mask 3D.

Awesome. I would like to go to this. I live in a medium sized city with limited flights but we have cheap flights to Vegas. If the Game Awards and PSX are both there on the same weekend next year I am so there.

No kidding. Not only that, but any serious VGA's from now on, that'd work for them too. This last one was WAAAAY better than PSX. Not even lying.

Wait are you saying the reveal of two Mario Maker skins and a five-minute glimpse of Zelda Wii U was more beneficial for Nintendo than the entire PSX keynote was for Sony??? Can you elaborate?

Adam Boyes just confirmed it on twitch that the "Annual PSX" comment during the keynote was not a slip, it will be annual event from now on.

With Layden's "slip" I think everyone pretty much suspected... Good thing imo.

Awesome! This is a Megaton for sure.

SFV console exclusive
Yakuza 5 localized
PSX now an annual event

Insiders redeemed.

The question is if they will always combine it with the TGAs
I don't think Keighley would go so far as to make the entire event sponsored by a single console owner, but he might be looking into some sort of rescheduling. Nintendo showed up big, but Microsoft clearly has no interest in participating and Sony's never gonna drop a bomb there when all they have to do is wait 24 hours to take complete control of center stage. You can make a show relying on Nintendo and third party publishers, but it clearly isn't as effective, especially considering the sort of exclusive lock-up deals that go on between publishers and Sony/Microsoft.

This may negatively affect the already limited amount of reveals that happen at GDC. Which is fine since that's not the point of GDC anyway.

If they are going to have a massive keynote, they should stipulate that those games shouldn't get trailer time at The Game Awards.

Sick of seeing the same games again and again.

I assume they'll piggyback The Game Awards again. Makes sense to have everyone in the same place.

I'd think so, but was it also confirmed that they have a keynote every time?
Maybe only the event will be annual.
Maybe there won't be, that would make sense I suppose.

I do think that Sony are going to be willing to spend far more money on making PlayStation more prominent than they have previously though., You only have to look at their recent claims of reducing the importance of things like TVs and phones within the company and, this over simplifies it but, PlayStation becoming Sony in some ways.

A bid part of that will be the PSN and I wouldn't be that surprised to finally see massive investment in that area as it will surely be the spine of PlayStation moving forwards,

I will say it says a lot about Playstation's first party output that they feel they have the capability to support another conference in addition to E3, Gamescom, TGS, and to a lesser extent the Game Awards every year.

Right. Like Spaceworld.

I'd rather they each do this than E3. That way the press doesn't have to do the marketing for them.
