YAKUZA 5 LOCALIZED FOR PS3

I would imagine 6 if they do make it wont be cross gen. Since all it does is limit the sales on both systems and causes more overall work for the team to be split like that. Though at the same time its good practice for them to get used to working with the PS4 so that the next title they can do the best possible job to take full advantage of what the system has to offer allowing for more elaborate game design. Personally I always found it pretty impressive with what they did back from the PS2 and on the PSP.

If there is one game that needs a HD release its the black panther series since at least 1 was fucking fantastic 2 not as much, since they messed with lots of things including the MCs VA but still a good game regardless.

But I swear the first game had some INTENSE fighting due to how they used the camera angles. They kinda fucked it up with the 2nd one though.

The second game does the exact same with the camera though? Also enjoyed Ashura-hen waaaay more than the barebones first game, both from a story and gameplay perspective.

No the 2nd game they pulled it out a lot farther, combat does not feel as tight with its responsiveness too. Its almost as if a different team was in charge of the combat mechanics. Its why I actually didnt bother to finish the 2nd game, asides from the fact that the new VO was just bad.

Gameplay by far was worse for the overall standards fights and the arena stuff.

but yes, a cheaper priced digital release, plus DECENT marketing might net more sales. Key word is marketing. Previous Yakuza games were all sent to die in the West.

Hmm, I actually had a far easier time countering and evading stuff than in the first game, felt perfectly fine to me. Better and much more styles to choose from and customize and a leveling system that's not borked like in the first game made it way more fun to play for me.

If I remember correctly, Nagoshi said around 200,000 copies sales would be enough for them to make another RGG game next year.
 
I mean I feel like I'm dreaming. It just feels so unreal. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. Just wow. Major hat tip to Sega and Sony here for listening to the fans. I feel like making five new PSN accounts so I can buy the game five times just to show my appreciation. If Amazon sells the codes separately I will be gifting copies for sure.

Jesus christ I remember when they said Yakuza 3 had sold a million units in Japan and they couldn't wait to get it in the west.

Then Yakuza 3 came to the west, sold 20k copies, and they went "Huuuuh, maybe we shouldn't bother".

Indeed, I've found myself thinking this several times since the announcement. I mean, I already bought Yakuza 4 (for the second time) in PSN for supporting Sega, but can't buy it more than once (also: wouldn't make sense)... PSN is really behind the Xbox Live Marketplace when it comes down to details like this...

I did my part and just bought Yakuza 4 yesterday. I have wanted it for a while, but prices were still high. This time i will buy Yakuza 5 on day 1 dammit!

Keep going, he's hard to get used to but once you unlock more moves, he's awesome. Lower the difficulty if you need to. I think he's an awesome character too.
 
Saejima is fine as a character but I'm firmly in the camp of thinking his fighting style sucks. Some of his special moves are great though.

Yakuza 3 sold enough in the west for them to localise a spin off and a sequel. It was the follow up performances which resulted in "Huuuuh, maybe we shouldn't bother".

As for the US numbers posted previously, bear in mind that those are US only, and US makes up just slightly more than 1/3 of the PS3 installed base outside of Japan. So yes, Yakuza isn't a great seller in the West, but it's not quite as bad as is implied by solely US numbers (which themselves are not particularly up to date).

Still, it's obvious that Sega is no longer interested (and probably no longer have the capacity) in localising the vast majority of their Japanese output where they can expect just a small profit at most. So without first party support, or them giving it to another publisher with lower overheads then we wouldn't be seeing anymore of the this franchise.

Fortunately Sony seem to recognise that as a first party part of their job to ensure a rounded portfolio of software for their platforms, even if that comes at the expense of short term profits.

I couldn't have put it better myself, those have been exactly my thoughts for some time.
 
I bought myself a new PS3 this Saturday since my old 40 gig fatty was found dead a week earlier. (along with KH 2.5)

Then I get home, start watching PSX's keynote and find out about this? Best day ever. :)

Glad I never finished my imported copy, I stopped early on the new guy's part and never really got a chance to go back. By the time it's out, it's gonna be over 2 years since I last played.. should mostly feel fresh enough to go through everything again (and get a better understanding of what's going on, as I'm too lazy to try to read in Japanese)
