anybody else watching VGBC streaming with heavy gravity and smooth landing? Really speeds up the gameplay and allows for more combos and edge guarding. Even with screwing up vertical recoveries I think this would be my preferred way of playing.
 
Wait, is smooth landing a special option, along with heavy, metal, lightning, etc?

I thought it was equipment. If it's a mode, I'm gonna try that out.
 
I want to share some details about my upcoming tournament.

  • It will be only 48 players tournament
  • Double Elimination
  • It will be characters-locked tournament
  • No one are allowed to have shared characters
  • Mii Fighters isn't allowed due to odd numbers in tournament
  • The players will represent the characters that they are well known with. (Ex: Shamrock7r/Ness)
  • The players is more likely to be recruited or nominated.

So each person will be locked to one character...?? hmm thats a hard, im guessing this is no conventional tourney? Could be fun though, to have every character participate and to see the character that shines with an overall win, interesting

Regardless im interested, I would love to join and go in as Mac

And double elimination you mean 2 stocks best of 3?

I hate items, I usually play with items off, and I just like doing 1 vs 1 online, 4 players free for all offline. I'm actually afraid of giving 8 vs 8 a try, becuase of all the chaos, since playing with 4 players is already chaotic and hard to follow at times.

How do you do that? when is this tournament?

Most people play without items. I normally do 1 v 1 no items. Sometimes we do some 2 v 2 in teams and its pretty fun too! no items

lol,at first it taked some time to get used to 4 players. i always lose myself, i have bad eyesight though, i cant imagine 8,or even 6 players.

Yes, you got it right. Player will represent their best character (or visa via) That's my goal to see the characters shining or not.

Same Double Elimination rules as most of tournaments.
2 stocks Best of 3 until semi-finale, then it will become 2 stocks Best of 5.

There doesn't seem to be a command list in the training mode.

It works like an actual tournament and not a community.

There are brackets and people join it. Then they go through it like an actual tournament.
 
Has Gaf made a tourney? I would love to play in one, even if I get teared apart, moving from melee to sm4sh has been hard for me. Game is amazing though, and I'm progressing faster than I thought I would.

This game is so much better than brawl.

What if there are multiple people that want the same character, for example, like myself with Mac.

Yeah, that was pretty tough so that's why I have to be very careful with picking which players and characters.

I would go with nominations if I'm not familiar with the players.

Thankfully Ness' spot is way easy to fill out if he's willing to participate in this tournament.

Right, Sham. There's a couple of people I can see representing their character. Well, hopefully I'm nominated and take the spot :p
 
I like to join Heath little Tourny but I'm not an expert with any characters. I expect Shamrock to win again so I hope their are some replays like last time. Like to see anonymous tipster megaman and flux sonic.

As far as I understand it, the best player with a certain character will make it in, I guess people can nominate and 'vote' for who they feel should get that spot, since we have played against each other a lot. I suppose worst case scenario is to 'settle it in smash' and see who is really the best

If you mean really basics, there's a "How to Play" video if you leave the title screen on long enough or you can probably watch it in the Vault video section. There isn't really a command list because all moves are just A+direction, B+direction, in the air or on the ground etc. I think the manual comes with a really basic list of every character's special moves.

I'll have to take you up on this when I've got more free time again, which I'm pretty sure I said last time in the 3DS thread but I'll get around to it eventually!
 
Huh... that tournament format sounds kinda weird. I'd want to be the player repping Sonic if it came down to it, though.

It'd be cool to also just have a straight up, conventional tournament with as many players as possible sometime, though.

Neat, I tried that. Looks like the equipment is locked at those awful bonuses though. I don't have any neutral equipment that can negate the effects though. Closest I've gotten is within +/-4 but with a dumb effect I don't want.

Playing Falcon the difference is kind of negligible. Aside from knee and stomp his aerials are already pretty low on landing lag (12, 12, and 9 frames, some of the lowest in the game). Even with Smooth Landing the lag on those two attacks combined with the game's low hitstun, they aren't any more useful than they were before.
