Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

Looks beautiful, but the sound is way off. It's a first person view, so to speak, but with third-person audio. I was hoping that when inside of a car, the sounds would be more like real life - i.e., you can hear water hitting the windows and roof and the sounds of your engine aren't quite so clear.

Edit: This is what I'm talking about. Had it sounded like this, I'd own DriveClub tomorrow.
That was me using the bumper cam. Inside the cockpit sounds completely different.

Another one with me using the cockpit view

Those pics and gifs...

Keep 'em coming

Man, some of these gifs are really impressive. I think this is the first console game I've seen that truly looks like a 'next gen' game. More impressive is that frame rate didn't take a hit.

How do I drift?
Don't enter the corner too hot, approach apex from the outside of the corner, slam the hand brake for a solid 1 to 1.5 seconds while simultaneously overturning into the corner, then release the brake and feather the gas as need.

When learning i found i was coming into corners with too much speed.

As you wish. I did no post processing effects, this wasn't done through the photo mode, just me holding down "share" while driving.

edit: reposted, uncompressed versions.

Well shit, it certainly looks like the AA method got better. Gotta give it a go tomorrow when coming back home.

Can ANYONE with the update please post a gameplay non photo mode capture of India during a clear day?

Seems improved to me. Better coverage on cars, and in cockpit view it's much better. Distant cars, lands and trees etc. are almost pristine. It's no supersampling of course, especially for wires, fences etc. I mean check out the car select. There even used to be a fair bit of aliasing on the cars there but that's now been reduced. Here are compressed shots straight from share function but they should be good enough to demo the AA: If the game looked like this at the start, would there be been the questions over IQ?

I don't know how this looked pre-patch but zi am having to look very hard to find shimmering let along jaggies. It looks absolutely flawless in motion except sometimes can see some shimmering on the backs of cars in the right lighting.

Phenomenal looking game. Even my wife was commenting

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL THEM TO GET THE FRIGGIN REPLAY MODE OUT!!!!!!

Seriously, look at how stunning this game looks. Its begs for a replay mode.

Evolution ....... I SUPPLICATE THEE!!!

Rumour has it that replay mode is the feature slated to come out next month.

Too bad the GAF hate pushed Rushy from the threads. Was always fun when he popped in back before shit hit the fan.

Evo's turned it around, hopefully not too late in the game. DC for $35 is a hell of a stocking stuffer.

Looking forward to the new location that's been hinted? Is consensus still Antigua?

Awesome thanks. At quick glance this does look better to me than previous shots from that location in terms of AA but obviously compression might be hiding that

I thought he was posting again in the OT recently? Sucks if they already chased him out again so soon like that :(

Been playing this all evening with the weather update, and trying to put my finger on whats missing in this game. i pick up on that sense thats its lacking something, lack of character or soul or whatever..., maybe its mostly down to the presentation, but i think had there been more customization options for the cars to make them feel more personal, that would of went a long way. Even if only cosmetic stuff like rims, spoilers, bodykits, etc. (im not fond of the decals in the game, ugly ass shit, imo) But I've noticed i got no favorite cars in this game like i develop in other car games, i boot it up and always pick whatever, barely touch the top accelerators cos they spin out too easy.. just pick something in the middle(performance wise) or the zonda... had there been alot of cool customization to personalize the cars, i would of spent more time with each one kitting it out and learning its intricacies.. Theres a great game here at its core, but its like a cake without the icing.. although the weather effects is a sweet ass cherry on top.

Also, Evo need to play some GTAV NG during a thunder and lightening storm, emphasis on the thunder. Where the hell is the thunder Evo ??

I feel there isn't a sense that you own the cars. It sounds trivial but most games have "cars you can buy" (or earn), and "cars you now own". The latter are often stored in a garage or at least displayed as clearly your cars. You picked their colour, when you acquired them.

In GT they got dirty, you washed them. Again that was pointless but added to the sense of "mine" even before you started to tinker with them.

In driveclub you see the entire strip of cars right from the first moment with the game, and that presentation doesn't change as you open access to them.

So it feels like you're at "Avis Supercars" and merely have the right to rent them for a race.

Implementing a garage of some kind, and maybe preserving the dirt and damage post race, perhaps also letting you see the garages of your club members, would help a lot.

For me all this stuff is irrelevant, time consuming nonsense. I pick my favourite cars based on handling and how much fun they give me on track. All this...stuff...would just get in the way of my racing, and its one of the (many) things that annoyed the fuck out of me in GT5.

I'm not going to rehash the argument about mechanical customisation - save to say I'm enojoying DC more than ANY instance of GT I've played.

DC is 6 clicks of X from titlescreen to racing. My selection process takes all of about 5-10 secs, and the tracks load in a similar amount of time. The menu system is quick, clean and solely functions as a means to get to the racing - much like the PS4s menu system is built around getting me into a game quickly.

For me the soul, the feels, whatever, of a racing game is in the racing, and in that DC excels.

Damn, the AA looks much improved.

Told you guys! Game is super clean now, just look at the car and the power lines. (Of course no 4K downsampling quality, but very good for a console game)

edit: Meh, looking at some of the older shots I am not sure. Might just be my mind playing tricks on me together with different lighting conditions.

My. Eyes. They may never be the same.

Just thinking of the impact this game could have had if it was released in this state back in October makes me ;_;

You did a good job Evolution, a really good job.

Mmm, on second thought yeah it seems they've tweaked the temporal solution even more, static shots still are lacking though.

just got it - anyone know where I can play the rain/snow online? All challenges or MP options seem to be sunny, etc.

Also - does the main SP tour include weather too? so far only dry....

Yup. AA looks better.

Video Game comeback of the year?

They should consider re-marketing and giving it a soft re-release along with the PS+ version at $34.99 on the eShop. Hype the additions and changes.

I had not played it in weeks and I'm so happy all that penalizing bullshit appears to be gone.

SP I played through at launch did not include weather. I assume future content will have it integrated, but i doubt the edited the core SP to include it.

Tour events have preset time and weather that you can't tweak, that's part of their design. An upcoming tour expansion called Elements is hitting this month and will feature different weather scenarios

I've only seen weather in Single event and challenges. Looks like we have to wait for Elements for weather during a tour.

I get the sneaking suspicion that Drive Club is going to have a super duper deluxe edition released next fall and it will have every bit of DLC from now until then, be priced lower and have fully functioning online and all the naysayers form the last 2 months will suddenly be overjoyed at how great it is.

That said.. it's almost like this game should have maybe stayed in the oven another 6 months. Had they brought it out near PS4 launch as a free to play title like Killer Instinct on xbox one , they could have built iterative updates and seasons and I don't think anyone would have bitched nearly as much.

Instead they released a serviceable racing game with broken online play (despite that being it's core feature) , priced at full retail value but lacking much of the zazz that seems to now be present in the game in spades.

Would it have been better to launch this game now, in december with the weather built in perhaps ?

Based on what we saw before I think releasing this in any form at ps4 launch would have killed any interest in it. Even more than what actually happened this fall
