Where is this toddler's nose? Is she like a Voldemort baby or something??
I didn't see anything in there that pertains to my argument: The design is flat out ugly and slaps these new machines and our fancy screens in the face. I'm not willing to pay $60 for shit customization textures on character skins and the same designs of old characters. I've described her before as being an uninspired customization dump and I stand by that. Nothing about her is relevant. With looks/personality, Lili was already the pop-ish idol-come-fighter, Xiao was already the cutesy schoolgirl, Alisa was already the exotic anime fetish female etc. Her fighting style is an unispired mixture of other fighters, her outfit is basically every female customization I've come across. So what is worth defending? So what if maybe people wanted something a bit better in a game they once anticipated, especially if they were hoping for it to get back on track after poor decisions in the past.
Retorts with "whining", "immature", "priorities" are equally hypocritical and add nothing to anyone's stance.
Are those her eyebrows way up there or maybe nostrils?Where is this toddler's nose? Is she like a Voldemort baby or something??

They took Harada seriously...
Well that's an easy out for you because it means you don't need to see it from my perspective because it's just whining to you or concern trolling when I've already mentioned I've been a series-long fan who has even had Tekken related ink done. I'm not some "capo button mashing casual who probably hasn't played since 3" which I've seen so childishly thrown around in here. I may not be some tourney caliber player, but I'm simply a fan who wishes the game be mkre successful. The amount of whining (yes, there has been) and overall disappointment is proof that maybe, just maybe, they made a stupid decision. Vocal minorities or not, when something doesn't work, I'd prefer a fix rather than a "deal with it".If that is enough to prevent you from. Supporting the game, then that's up to you.
It's when one begins to ask Harada to bend to their wills is when it become pathetic whining to me.
You don't like it... Ok, and? Now what. You can voice your displeasure all you want. But to keep doing it over and over and then expecting the world to stop and take notice of it.. Is rather childish no?
It's like a kid crying to get candy... Surely if they keep it up, they'll get their way., right?
I think whining is a perfect word for it.
Not everyone who hates the design is childish... Of course not... But some people are in fact acting that way

That's exactly my issue. I can't stand customizations. And why would I want an uninspired addition to an updated game that may potentially replace other characters? You do realize this game will have customization and you will have to encounter those online too. You can't be free from such an experience. You will have to see ugly online customs on your TV screen with or without chloe having been announced. So how big of a difference does one more bad design make.
As I said already, I will tolerate her. And depending on how her play style turns out, I might even use her for fun. The bigger picture is that she appeals to a clearly existing fanbase and they want to play with her.
Why does that bother you when there definitely will be equally bad or worse designs you will encounter online regardless?

I'll accept at least story mode forgoing customizations to end my rant on that front.Well, then Tekken isn't for you. Because customization has been a HUGE part of the franchise since Tekken 5 and I do not forsee them ever abandoning customs altogether.
If that's enough to turn you away from the franchise, then...........
Customs are a huge extra expenditure in the franchise and I'm sure Namco would be happy forgoing this cost if they could. But there will be more outrage than this chloe thread if they took customs out now that they've become a series standard.

WTF is this?
I think everyone is too self aware to be upset by such a thing.I'm gonna win Tekken 7 grand finals at EVO with Lucky Chloe and dedicate my win to all the haters on here

Understandable. But all I wish is she appeared inspired. Not "inspired by every catgirl in everything" but genuinely and creatively inspired. Yes, this reads like "I don't like thing so lets change it" but I'm asking for a minor change to work for everyone. You'd/they'd still be happy with the character I'm sure. And if anything, I wasn't demanding a change, I've been commenting on what I would have liked instead. HUGE difference.Again it's the, I don't like it.. Therefore it must be bad and this changed mentality.
What about those who DO like it? Why should they lose out because you don't like it.
Think of it that way...
There are a shitton of things I don't like in games(ironically moe shit often is that lol).. I either deal with it or keep it moving because I know someone out there think whatever it is, is the greatest and it is a major part of their enjoyment.
Where's Raven, Bryan, Marduk, Bruce etc? Reaching hard with the racist generalizations.I love this twitter post so much.
Here's your replacement character for chloe America. lololololol

hahahahaha.

Finally. I never got the comparisons, either.

Let's not forget the ever important and always present sushi backpacks. So why not just custom the character to your liking? Isn't that the point of it all really? But on the flip side and said before, you got those out there that makes the most shit of a custom you'll ever see. Flapping butterfly wings? Neon colors to melt your eyes out? Wipe them out. All of them.

Cole McGrath would make a cool guest character for any fighting game.

I don't mind goofy, but not when I look at what's available and come away thinking "that's it?"

Point taken. I hope I've come across as simply defending aesthetics that have dwindled (imo).Thing is........Harada isn't being serious. On the other hand, people calling Chloe the epitome of anime/waifu/japanese culture fetishizing teenage girls (whatever terms people were using in this thread) were being 100% serious.
I've been waiting for Tekken 2 Yoshi for years!True. TTT2 got a little gimped in the custom department but glad it was so that it could have a better online experience. I'm hoping we'll have a bigger custom option with T7 and characters. But I usually try to get characters to look like older versions of characters. Me and the wife found some neat ones to use for TTT2 to make Ling look like her T3 outfit and Lili with her T5R outfit. Speak of which, Namco could make a killing with selling older costumes to use. Just sayin'.

When I was younger and such a Yoshimitsu/Tekken mark, I never envisioned Dr. B's sick daughter Yoshi was trying to save as being the Alisa we got in 6/BR. It just felt insulting to think this guy repaired his daughter to look like that and unrealistic to think she looked like that in T3's universe. It was the start of a weird turn for the series. One can't mock generalizations when that's exactly what they've been doing from T6-SCV-TTT2. These titles all featured highly generalized versions or replacements of characters. It's the Japanese equivalent of replacing masked Sub-Zero with a brutish white guy with a crew cut.You have. And you have stuck to the aesthetics aspect of it and I can understand that.
There are other people here, though, that have really crossed the line as far criticism goes. Don't be upset when other people archetype your culture's games and characters into one big generalization when you're doing the same to others. The bald space marine analogy is very fitting.

I see plenty of this. Assassin's Creed Unity comes to mind. And yet, here on neogaf, you won't see the same type of outrage when western companies create games with the same type of generalized bald muscular space marine look. Double standard maybe?

That's a very good point.I think the main thing that bugs me about characters like Lars or Lucky Chloe is that they're strange, but not in a particularly unique way.
Like I see people referencing Alex or Mokujin or Yoshimitsu, but where the fuck else are you going to find a velociraptor with boxing gloves or a living wooden training dummy or a helicopter cyborg kabuki samurai? When Tekken got weird, it got really weird. On the other hand, I could find Lucky Chloe-lookalikes in tons of games. Hell, I can find more interesting Lucky Chloe lookalikes; Taokaka from Blazblue comes to mind.
Lucky Chloe isn't Tekken getting weird, it's Tekken being typical. Typical isn't necessarily bad, but for the 7th main game in a long-running series with tons of characters I'd prefer something new.
Thing is........Harada isn't being serious.

On a forum where these tropes have been mocked and diversity supported, I don't see how you'd come to this conclusion. And yet, here on neogaf, you won't see the same type of outrage when western companies create games with the same type of generalized bald muscular space marine look. Double standard maybe?
And for the record, I would never ask Harada to remove a character just because I don't like them. But I hope the feedback will make him question whether Chloe was a good idea and execution of that idea.
Would it be apt to compare this to old and new Pokemon fans complaining about the monster design of each new iteration? Granted they don't have to worry about their favorites getting cut from the roster with every new game.
I'm more talking about the weird characters, though Lei is an example of a weird one and is a good counterpoint.Nahhhh. I disagree there, guy.
Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, were definitely not original. The half demon half human thing had been done to death prior. The hwoarang/jin rivalry reminds me of ken/ryu so much. Raven is not original. He looks like blade lmaoo.
I'll give you miguel. Nina williams is as generic as they come. Leo is... well leo. Christie is a clone. Lei is litterally jackie chan from super cop. They even said they based him off of that. Law.....
...... c'mon dawg. Law is you know who.
Every character almost seems like they were created in the image of someone else. Not saying that's bad, but they are def not original. Let them have an idol if they want.
