Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

So has the Improved IQ been discussed yet? Anyone do any comparisons for or against this theory?
I took these two when a previous patch came out and people said 'IQ is better/AA has changed/AF looks improved' - and it showed it hadn't.

And just took another shot now in the same time of day (ignore colour differences, different colour settings with capture card).

Man, I'm extremely impressed with this game. I was interested at first, then just decided to wait for the PS+ edition, but the sale was too good to pass up.

I was up till 1am last night retrying a track just to take down Helscream from GAF by 2s when it was all said and done.

This is the most fun I've had with a racer since NFS Hot Pursuit III. I like the fact that it's just straight tracks and not open world. I know open world has a place in racing, but it's just not for me. I get extremely intimidated by large open world games because I tend to get distracted easily. This is just straight up "race down this track as fast as you can and the better you do it the more points we award". As I've seen it echoed on GAF, it reminds me of PGR4 (Which I loved).

The weather was just icing, no pun intended, on the cake for me.

Now add me to your PSN so I can challenge your scores GAF, PSN: MaynardLD50

Only side note I have is I really want to love the in-car view (so pretty), but it just takes up so much screen real estate, so dash cam for me.

Maybe use touchpad for wipers? Swipe with the right finger up or down on the rightmost side? Then swipe up or down on the leftmost for hi/low beams?! Sounds pretty awesome to me.

With how well this game looks in motion, the sense of speed, the tight controls. Sorry but fuck 60fps in Gran Turismo 7 or whichever we are at, make it as good looking as possible.

Maybe the physics simulation of the GT series would require sharper frame timing and such so it would have to be 60. But if they can replicate this games sense of speed and controls at 30fps, just fine by me

OH HELL NO. I'm so glad someone like this isn't in charge of Polyphony, please don't ruin GT for the rest of us.

I know you're probably excited playing this game for the first time or something, but this is ridiculous...

I like droplets. Do you?

They shouldn't and don't need to. Who cares the game has been out for awhile, what difference is it gonna make?
I don't really care. Im just wondering if they will.

Edit: a lot of people base purchases off of review scores. Some lowered the scores because of the online mess upon release. Now that it is fixed and the weather adds to the experience it may be deserving of higher scores which in turn might make for more sales?

WebM for the new rain yet?

Yeah it'd be nice if there was a FOV slider for the interior view. Dash cam is pretty good though

So should every game get rereviewed once it starts working? That would make for quite a bit of games rereviewed. Should Destiny be reviewed again now that it has new content? Also there are tons of user impressions that are much more up to date anywhere in here and the OT. People have opinions and if you want those low reviews changed, I'm willing to bet those reviewers wouldnt give the game a different acore by much anyway.

I think it certainly would be good to circle back to games periodically, especially ones that receive regular content updates, and reassess them. These days games change so much over the course of their lifespan that someone buying a game 2 years after release might not even be buying the same game that was reviewed. (Compare Diablo 3 today to what it was at launch).

And ESPECIALLY games that are knocked for launch specific issues and not core gameplay design should have their reviews/scores updated. While some take a long time to get shit straight (BF4), others may suffer bugs/glitches/network problems for a week or two and be perfectly fine after that. A shame that the game should eternally suffer judgement for a problem that existed for only a brief time during it's lifespan.

However, only FREE added content and features available to everyone who buys the game should be considered in the updated review. Paid expansions and DLC and shit don't count of course.

Wowie wow. Even the water brushed by the windshield wipers flows dynamically. This is the most realistic game I've ever seen, and it feels finally like a sea change in graphics as we saw going from PS1 to PS2.

Minor negatives: Only negative on the water is that it seems to be a constant level – dips in the road don't seem to collect water, it's just applied as a consistently thin overlay on top of the road surface. And on the gif on the front page, the lightning starts at the ground and goes up. Maybe this is a type of lightning I've never seen, but in my experience lightning always starts in the clouds and strikes the ground. Finally, compared to the gobsmacking environment, the driver's hands seem a bit last-gen.

Lightning (the actual visual 'electric' part) travels from the ground up.

Pretty much what bananafactory said. Its happened before when review scores are lowered because of whatever issue at release and then updated when it is fixed. I bought Driveclub day one and loved it, its up there for my GOTY, it won't affect me if the scores don't change but I think if a game has its score lowered for problems at launch its only fair to update it if and when the problems are fixed within a reasonable time frame.

Anyways, I dont want to turn this thread into a review score discussion so I'll leave it alone now.

So I just got a PS4 and I want to buy this game just to see if it looks as good as these gifs. Because these look fucking amazing. But isn't there a + version coming sometime?

Bought this yesterday. I don't think I even have to get into how amazing it looks, particularly with the weather patch.

Yes. I am patiently waiting myself. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS+ version ends up being the full game minus DLC.

just did a quick contact-free race - Venom/legendary/heavy precipitation/3rd person view:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU83zYhaABI

as good as it looks, I love the way the conditions alter the handling even more - especially with the high-end cars

I looked at nothing but the bottom part of the windshield to see how it reacts. It's pretty insane how I couldn't see a pattern. The rain shifted with every turn, one side would build up more in turns and sway to that side. Pretty dynamic.

Since I hear the online is functioning (I had tons of fun when it did work awhile ago) and looks so good....it may be time to try n buy it. At least rent it again.

Yeah I agree, I just see the review scores get brought up too much. The game has been out quite awhile now and they are tons of way to get much better info for this game. Personally I love this game alot and it has given me tons of playtime. Also the launch problems didn't factor into the Driveclub scores at all, remember that we they reviewed the games, the online was working.

Dat weather though. How do I get better quality pics? My pics I upload to twitter definitely don't look as good quality as what some post here.

Considering some dev managers also go by review scores on what game's should be made or considered a success, it'd be nice to have newer review scores just for the greater possibility of having a sequel.

I'm constantly changing the weather conditions and time of day. Game looks insane.

Would be really damn awesome if the sound was updated too. Thunder looks fabulous, but I want roaring thunder, the sound of raindrops on my windshield and roof and the wipers. If Evolution will able to achieve this .....wow...

It sounds like an audio mixing issue, hopefully they're aware of it and it can be addressed in the next patch.
