Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

If anyone was curious how the game sold, I just checked the leaderboards for someone on my friends list who is very low. They are ranked around 630 000. So it seems the game has probably sold at least half a million (have to imagine some of those users were sharing someone else's system).

Seems pretty good for a brand new racing IP that suffered a very rocky launch.

Man....I just don't even know what I just saw. I mean I have been gaming a very long time but today after seeing and playing the weather update for myself I am now absolutely sure that this is the best looking game I have ever seen. Plus as of today I place this my personal racer that I have played in years.

The first time a set up a race it was in Scotland with heavy precipitation and everything else random and my God as soon as the READY sign came up my heart jumped. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I mean I has happy with Killzone, I was floored by Infamous, and even TLOUR was top tier. But this right here is something I did not think I would see so soon in the PS4's life cycle. Pure and simple DriveClub is now my GOTY. Its an absolute blast to play, the tracks are so fun to race. I actually thought they were real locations until I read otherwise. The handling is perfect and the sense of speed combined with the craziest weather effects I have ever seen make the game sit above others imo. Man this game is good.

Really impressed with the details they put into the cockpits as well. Driving the M5 around I noticed that they actually properly lit the buttons that become visible when the headlights are triggered. Even the the 1,2, and M buttons used for memory seat function are perfect. In the day time you can even see elements in the instrument cluster (such as the adaptive cruise control indicators) that are never used in the game but slightly visible in real life even when not lit. Also, before starting the race, the (P) indicator is lit. Even the difference in material between the center portion of the steering wheel and the wheel itself are represented. Oh, and if you look at the back seat, you can see that the middle seat belt is properly folded into the little compartment and they actually modeled the seat belt clips properly. Ah yes, even the rear view camera under the trunk lid is modeled *AND* reflective (showing the scenery and part of the bumper in its reflection as you move the camera).

They didn't nail every detail, though. The led light strips that run under the trim should produce a soft orange glow around the cabin - I'm surprised they didn't model that, to be honest. Also, the green LED indicator for rain sensing wipers doesn't seem to be lit (though it's hard to tell).

I hadn't looked this close before but I'm just stunned at how many tiny details are present even in areas that you'll never see during normal gameplay.

I switched to Firefox because of this thread.

Same here.

Drive club is responsible for death of Chrome for me. Hell, this thread made me open Safari for the first time.

Evolution, you just didn't have broken net code at the launch, you have broken Google's browser as well. :p

Just as promised, the cockpit view. This game is bonkers.

Oh my god. Time to get my PS4 :)

Ok Sony, I guess maybe you are not in the mood for invest a lot more in Driveclub right now.. but I think the time this game sells for itself has come. No need for fancy messages, campaigns, etc. If you release Ads with just 30s. of footage like the video here, just driving fun in a never seen before audiovisual presentation, my bet is you'll have a winner. People would talk about that word-silent ad on TV with amazing presentation. Oh, and you'll have a system seller too.

You're welcome :P

Have you tried out the weather update yet?

the weather effects really make the game look even more amazing. i just wish people wouldn't always set their challenges during blizzards in the middle of the night lol.

Norway at night with light OR heavy snow is just impossible.
yeah, what he said. it can be fun, but forget about setting records or getting clean laps.

The road reflections are off the chart. They look so good and I don't think I've seen them look better. They're not faked cube maps too. Impressive.

That's not bad.. There is also ps plus edition that may sway some people too? Potential LT 1 million seller :P

While I am happy so many people seem to be buying this now, I find it strange that the weather effects have THAT much impact on people.

The racing itself has been awesome since day 1, but most people talked shit about the game then…

yep. i'm right there. The failed launch + no PS+ edition is making me wait for bomba prices. Sorry evo... but I fully blame sony. This game shouldn't have shipped in the state it was. If they released a beta (public) on launch day, problems would have surfaced and now we could have a game with weather and in working state, which would benefit the game sales enormously.

I don't think it's solely the weather that's helping the bump in popularity, it's definitely brought the game back into the spotlight. People are realizing the game is actually very good now that is mostly functional, and the weather is just significant enough of an addition to push people previously on the fence to buy it

that's like saying you're surprised wind simulation on vegetation and trees have a lot of impact in a game that happens in a forest

It is? :D
But it's a racing game, and the racing was awesome on launchday already.

Oh well, as long as more people buy and enjoy this I am happy.

Yeah okay sure.

Yeah okay sure.

Well, unless you want a low MC for a game that deserves more, with the sales impact it correlates. Not only that, but also the fact that the news about the game's online not working were the last straw.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/driveclub

You might say MC means nothing. In the real world, it does. If i trusted reviews i'd have missed on games like the original monster hunter for ps2 and resident evil outbreak, so I don't trust them, but those games bombed so hard that either the sequels were cancelled (outbreak) or never came to the west (MH2).

It actually looks better when you aren't playing, you can't really absorb that amount of loveliness when you are driving!

As for the online portion, servers are still a little wonky, I'd assume that more people are playing again, meaning the strain is showing on the servers.

Why sony? Evo was given a whole extra year to deliver. I am sorry, but evo screwed up.

sony is ultimately the publisher and evolution studios is under the playstation umbrella. Things weren't going smoothly and I suppose that's why rushy was appointed to be the project leader... so i'd say that after the delay it was more of an imposition coming from sony than anything else. that's mere speculation though. Still, you're right about evo screwing up
