One question though: I returning my Samus from another store, but want one from them back. What Amiibos are the closest to "Fail-Proof"?
Like the ones which are usually good quality no matter what.

Looks like a scalpel/box cutter is the best way to leave it looking good, my letter opener's blunt so it won't work as well. Thanks for the help.

It's hard, I've got the bug atm tbh. Need to resist though. That said I think the Kirby line characters look the best and I'm thinking about putting my pre-orders in for metaknight and Dedede already.
The bulkier characters with less fine details like Mario, Pikachu and Kirby. I haven't seen bad Donkey Kongs, Yoshis or Foxs either.

Yeah can someone help me find out which ones are going to be a pain in the ass to find? Because I was hoping to collect all of these at some point (how silly of me to want to buy something I like), but if I have to scramble around to find them before they're gone that's not going to make me want to try as hard.

This is just my theory, but the most likely figures to become rare in Wave 1 and 2 are Wii Fit Trainer, Villager and Marth & Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon.
I think I mentioned before that the rest are either recognisable or popular from their games/series, but even Samus and Fox are going to become limited compared to Mario, DK, Pikachu, Link etc, at least in the UK.

You can get the Villager and WiiFit trainer on pre-order on both the sites.
The surgery methods have got to be one of the least sensical things to do. Collector's value is only retained if the box is intact and in good condition but also unopened, if you slice into it, it's no different than opening it. So the Amiibo has no more worth than if you took it out.
So then the only reason is for your personal collection in which case it looks like shit to have them boxed and impossible to build a proper display.

I still have to decide who I want to buy. I don't want them all because I don't care about the collection. However, I do want the ones that will be used for non-cosmetic stuff in the future. I need to buy Link for Hyrule Warriors. I'm thinking Shulk for Xenoblade X? Since Nintendo has been awesome about telling us other uses for these things, I can't decide which other ones to grab. :|

My local Sainsburys stocked the Marth Amiibo pretty early so I picked that up on a whim. Since I bought it in that store I've yet to see another Marth in there, he seems to have been replaced with the other characters. If only I had known he'd be rare... though I'd probably still end up opening it.

I'm pretty pessimistic that the 12th is really the release date for wave 2. When I had wave 1 pre-ordered, I got emails about the release date's "changing" when they went from a placeholder date to their actual date; I've seen nothing of the kind for my wave 2 figs.

Kirby and Fox... depends if Miyamoto want the Fox Amiibo for Starfox, I'd say. I would have thought that Kirby would stay, but the demand is really high, and around me, Kirby is dozen of times rarer than Marth (I've seen two, and not a SINGLE one after the lanch day).
Part of me is still holding out hope for a Wave 2 restock of the Wave 1 rarities, but I might just gamble on that not happening, because my luck I'll wait until the weekend and they'll sell out on Play-Asia (happened with amazon.ca for me).
I wouldn't expect Kirby to be rare since he's used in Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and will be used in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.
I know... It's the most expensive here, if I'm not mistaken, though, so at least Nintendo undership this one quite badly.
