Amiibo Discussion Thread

Marth will probably get an alternate/better/notshit amiibo for SMTxFE or some random FE thing, but that's probably a year away minimum. Same with Villager. Wii Fit Trainer is probably completely gone though.

Then again, they might do alternate gender Villager/WFT's.

I'd guess they don't have the capacity to produce low demand Amiibos along with the Wave 2 and 3 ones, so they discontinued them. Maybe, just maybe, they'll make additional stock after these 3 waves are done?

In any case, it's clear a big part of the fan demand is because of the low availability, so even if they produce more of Marth, WFT and Villager, it'll be low stock again.

She's in wave 3 everywhere. You can't find her in NA because she's exclusive to Target

Really? Laaaaame.

It's kind of weird how oddly hard it is to get solid info on waves per region and exclusives. Like when I was like around trying to find out what was going on with her release multiple sites list her as wave 2 in Japan. We should try to put together a proper Amiibo OT or something.

That's because Japan got our wave 1 and 2 at the same time (because they got Smash Wii U later). So she is wave 2 in Japan

That is apparently from Gamestop. :/
Motherfucker.

Cap. Falcon and Luigi are the only ones that interest me from this wave, and I'm gonna be out of the country from next Monday until the 1st of January. :( I'm never gonna get a good-looking Falcon.

Very stupid on Nintendo's part if that photo is true.

I hope they can let people buy the discontinued amiibos straight from Nintendo website.

I don't think it's capacity to produce that's the problem, rather it's capacity to get these onto store shelves.. at least, I think that's what it is?

they're going to be going through like, what, 40 different amiibos over the course of this thing. can they really keep 40 amiibos stocked on store shelves? it seems necessary that some have to be discontinued as they move through them.

i just wanted wii fit trainer because it's a cool concept, not because of scarcity. i went to best buy on day 1 and they didn't have any. now the fact that i won't be able to get one has pretty much soured me on amiibos

I'd guess it's a bit of both. From a very ignorant view, I'd guess that changing the setup of whatever machines produce the figurines from, say, Diddy Kong to Marth is simply not worth it for the amount of unites retailers and/or people will buy.

Artificial scarcity. I expect the "rare" characters to be readily available again in 3-5 months.

Retail exclusives were delayed till February, unless something changes.

From what little I know of manufacturing plastic toy-type crap, manufacturing molds for things in the first place is the expensive part. Hmm. I should research stuff like that tonight.

Disney infinity had what 30 in 1 and at least 30 more and none have been officially discontinued yet.

I ordered all the exclusives from Japan in case I can't get a hold of some of them. Besides the packaging, is there any difference between Japanese amiibo and NA amiibo? The serial number the same? I got NVL-001 one the bottom of my first batch.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is necessarily concerned with the idea of discontinuing figures eventually. It's a hassle to keep 40+ figures on shelves indefinitely. The issue is that they appear to have been discontinued after about a week, with only a single, extremely small shipment. Give them a few months, at least.

i just bought a wii fit trainer amiibo. what am i doing. someone kill me.

You can't stop. WFT was my first and now I have 6 of them, hunting for the ever elusive Marth.

My WFT is a complete troll ingame as well. I think it's because in his baby stages, all I did was smack him with Link's Boomerang/Bombs/Hookshot. Now all he does is run around Sun Salutating and Volleyballing people at Level 50.

Looks like we'll have to wait tomorrow-friday for the beginning of wave 2!

I think i'll grab little mac...not sure about diddy. Might refund my captain falcon pre order. what do you guys think?

What's funny is I asked my GS employees.
They never even got those 3 amiibos in stock. excluding preorders since no one preordered them. Goes to show just how limited those were.

At target... Just grabbed Zelda, Diddy and 2 Little macs. This is in Portland. Apparently they only got 4 Macs and Diddys.

Edit: nevermind. Idiots had it out on the shelf but wouldn't sell it.

I went out looking for Amiibos in general today. The only ones in stock (at a Target and a Best Buy) were Mario, Link, and Yoshi. Hoping to find a Lucario at the local Toys 'R Us, but that seems unlikely at this point.

On a side note, I was also looking for Captain Toad. Sold out everywhere. :(

Lucario doesn't come out until wave 3.

Okay. The target that wouldn't sell the amiibo was in Oregon, not Maine.

Thanks. I figured Oregon anyways but I wanted to be sure. Sorry to have not clarified on that.

I think i'm going to pull the trigger on Little Mac and Pit. Maybe Falcon. I'm going based off a gut feeling of who will be discontinued in this wave.

zero differences. same figures. just different languages for the packaging.

Sorry I was being a bit snarky. Was irritated that the guy wouldn't sell it when it was out on the shelf. I came back a min later to grab Oma present and I overheard talking about being proud he stopped that scammer as he was taking them to the back. Made my blood boil.
