Only TWO HATS left (the Captain Falcon and Frog one), do you think I have higher chance to get them with a particular character ?

Dat smooth landing badge. Sogood.

Another classic run, another bomb outta nowhere in the multi man melee/smash section, grumble.
You know considering that the actual Multi Man Melee modes have fixed items you have to wonder why the classic mode version of it brings back the chance to be randomly obliterated by a bomb.

As a new Smash Bros player, I'm trying my best to get into it and don't put the game away, but I pretty much feel alone in it. I have no idea what I should start with.

I guess the basics are to hit the other players, to build up your percentage, which will then make your Smash attack stronger, so that you can punch them off stage and win the match?

You hit the other players to build up THEIR percentage. The higher percentage they have, the farther they will fly when getting hit.

Your strength doesn't change. You want to keep up your percentage low and your opponent's percentage high, but be sure to finish them ASAP or someone else may get the point for KOing them. If it's not a 1vs1, anyway.

Finally got the game and have been playing for a while. Playing smash on a pro controller is so much better than on the 3DS...

I'm also really happy with how the game doesn't lag (or at least the lag is unnoticeable for me), since I was fearing I'd be playing slowed-down games all the time after the mess that was online Brawl. Game didn't lag even when I got paired with japanese people, so I guess that's a good sign (at least for 1v1s).

If anyone wants to play a few games, my NNID's JulianImp.

Is it possible to make my own percentage go down again?

And do I just kick them off stage with normal attacks or do the characters have moves that are more powerful?

Just for the record, I've been maining Sonic for a while once I got kind of tired of Duck Hunt Dog's slow-paced game plan. Being in-your-face all the time with Sonic feels really good, even if it seems like his kill moves are somewhat limited. I'm still practicing varying up my approaches and using his side and down specials more, though.

Some items and character attacks can cause your percentage to go down, such as heart containers, Ness and Robin's down-B attacks, and other random food items.

All moves have varying degrees of launching power, so some of them are more viable to set up combos (ie: Ness' down throw) while others are good for scoring KOs (ie: Ness' back throw).

Also, most of the time the game isn't just about launching your opponents off the stage but also about guarding the ledges so that they can't recover. That way you can get KOs way earlier than if you just try to score them through single, powerful attacks.

interesting. do you have a video that explains these ledge guarding techniques & strategies?

I found a controller bundle at random. $99. The pressure to flip it at $250+.....omg. And I hate people who do that kind of thing, but fuck. What a mark -up.

I had no idea the price had inflated that much when I bought it this morning. I just wanted the damned adapter, since I have a GC controller already.

Why isn't it available separately, even by a third party? How is it so under-produced?? Lol

Looking at my replays against some tougher GAF dudes *Sham can eat some sour bagels* I've realized my slump is essentially me not adapting fast fall tactics online. I've found it tough to FF Consistently online and threw it out completely. I'm gonna have to practice online a bunch to find a fluid motion for it. Cause all my moves are unsafe without FF which makes me a punching bag for higher tier peeps.

Anyone up for 1v1s tho?

You're all sleeping on Luigi, e.v.e.r.y. single one of you. Dudes legit

I tried to get back into him, but felt like he just didn't cut it for me in this iteration of smash.

I'd love to play against good players who use some of the less popular characters online, since the ones that I see are often quite bad, and the good players often picked Lucina, Little Mac and/or Sheik. Yesterday I was up against a good Wario player who later switched to Pac-Man, and really enjoyed that we got to play so many matches and I could finally get used to what fighting Wario is actually like.

Talking about Sheik, you'd think a hedgehog wouldn't be afraid of needles, but hers are something else entirely. I keep getting poked for free damage and have my approaches stuffed by them, which really gets on my nerves...

Serves you right

Sonic players are the worst :p

i've been an advocate of stealing arrangements from the mario & sonic games for a long time

seeing generations's rooftop run gave me hope that maybe they'd take arrangements from other games rather than always going for original versions, but nope.
and the worst part is that i prefer the original rooftop run over the generations version

they should def get the sega sound folks working on those games on smash, though. their tracks deserve better.

It bothers me that two of the 5 Super Mario World remixes are not on the Super Mario World stage.

How hard would that have been to move the Fortress Boss and Castle themes from their stages, so every Mario World music was on the actual level that represents the game.

Same for the lone New Super Mario music on Delfino despite there being an entire NSMB level in the game...

I managed to pick up a PDP pad for cheap with Game credit. After I bought it though I've heard they aren't that good. Are they really that bad? It should arrive in the post today.
I have the Yoshi one and I honestly like it. The joysticks are a bit different and it's much ligher (no rumble) plus it has an extra "z" button but it gets the job done. I don't think the shoulder buttons are analog but they do feel pressure sensative, in fact I can click in the joysticks but they don't register so I doubt they're really recognized as buttons.

If the shoulder buttons aren't analog, I wish they would just click in upon any touch as it feels like you have to really push it down (it's second nature though after a minute, so it's not a big deal). Also you want to customize your Smash controls to match the original GC controller (block/bubble as shoulder button and grab as z button) but other than that it works awesome for smash.

I use it also for MK8 and really like it but holding an item with the left shoulder after a while can be a bit uncomfortable for extended periods of time.

The big advantages are, the c stick is improved, it looks nice, it is a quality controller albeit with a cheap light plastic feel. I think it's worth $25 and I don't feel any input lag.

So I bought an amiibo. I was going to get Little Mac, but the one my gamestop had sold out as I was walking there so I got a Pikachu named Pikachu. I read that there's no way to keep them from getting stronger (like stupid customs moves bs) which I thought was lame, but right now Pikachu is level 25 and he's still 0 across the board. Is that normal and he'll just start getting those points at like level 30, or is it actually possible to train them without stupid shit added on?

I know that feeling, I've yet so see another Wario online. Common folk can't handle his awesomeness.
I can't stand him in this game. I've yet to see someone use him well, and I loved him in Brawl but hate him here. I think he's a definite contender for one of the worst characters. Any tips?

Not really...

His weird movements and weak specials dont compliment his short range

Im still not sure how to play well with him but I assume it would have to involve constant pressure with grabs and chomping.

The one music placement decision that bugs me the most is having nearly all of the Mario RPG music on Woolly World instead of on a Mario level. Like, at least put it on the Yoshi stage that is a Mario stage in all but symbol.

PSH, I wario fans have no room complaining. Guess how many G&W's I've seen online, absolutely 0
I've seen plenty of G&Ws tho

I honestly haven't figured him out here quite yet. He's still solid imo, but the nerfed air speed hurts. Really feels like a lot of his gameplan right now involves around the beefed up bite and bike though which are REALLY good right now. Less punishing and baiting and more trapping with those two moves.

Hmm... I guess I haven't tried using bite. I don't know, I think I agree with the air speed thing. I don't like his new FSmash much either.
