the fact they didn't use a side character that hasn't been seen for like 1 whole season at the least is more important to you than the show having proper writing and pacing?
70 years before LOK. At least the concept was there.
Remember the Earth trucks during TDOBS? Jet skis, zeppelins, etc etc. It isn't that far fetched.
WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?! MY WORLD IS FALLING APART
There's still enough time for everyone to change their mind about how amazing Kuvira is.It'll be over in a week my friend.
Don't count him out yet.
Where have you been?
Ah I remember those days.Increasing my sexy glasses collection.
They annoyed me too. But I can accept something of this size, but this giant mecha is incredible impractical given that it's purpose is to mobilize the giant canon. There are tons of useless steelparts that has to be moved and are only there to make it look humanoid. The size makes it also more difficult to maintain and a bigger target for all kinds of attacks. A tank, or even a three legged walker with the canon on top would've be more practical. Not in a world with mecha tanks, mecha suits, and hummingbirds.
Honestly, the jump to mecha tanks is where everyone should be getting annoyed.
Being in a fantasy world gives not a free-pass for everything. A Song of Ice and Fire has dragons and magic and yet you can't just have Little Finger suddenly riding a tank into battle. The dragon turtles have nothing to do with the mecha, spirit communication is certainly not Kuviras thing and well, moving rocks/metal comes in handy, yes. However, why build such a giant thing that needs certainly a lot of power (look at what benders usually bend and look at the size and possible weight of that mecha, the tank canon was big already enough). I doubt that this is the practical design an engineer would've pushed. It's super impractical and a maintenance horror. The ability to moves rocks, communicate with spirits, and giant lion-turtles giving super powers to humans are just as arbitrary. They have the tech shown already with the mech suits. They just needed to make it big and apply the power of a master metal bender to aid it. i don't really see how this is crazy when everything else is just as crazy in the series and they've at least set some groundwork for it.
And as SG-17 points out. Mecha tanks is where you should be annoyed but even then, considering the tech of TLA to Avatar, it's not that crazy of a leap.
So, maybe this is a stupid question, but is there any reason in particular why Korra didn't enter the avatar state and try to disable or wreck the mega mecha?
I just saw the episode. Man, I am never around for when the first impressions happen.
How are people receiving the mech? I'm fine with it, since it was pretty foreshadowed and everything. The bigger issue is that it looks stupid, and it's got a single attack apparently that is shockingly nimble, given it's weight.
Kaiju Korra is coming back. Toa must be squeeing in his pants now.
That mech really looks unthreatening though. Like goddamn.
Personally, I think the most absurd thing about it is the notion that Bataar Jr. just came up with this overnight before they marched out. "Oh yeah, let me just get a few dozen thousant tons of steel, mentally and mechanically engineer a walking humanoid robot, test it all out, train you in it's usage, mount the 50 ton fuck cannon and we can ride it over to Rep City. Should be done by tomorrow morning if I pull an all nighter on it, hunny,"
I'll be the first to admit that even TLA had some unbelievably fast accomplishments happen, but HOLY SHIT.
It has a horrible design and I almost laughed out loud because how much of a shark jump it's first scene was to me. I also don't buy that it can't be toppled with a simple earthquake no matter what people say.
Also what happened to the Fire Nation's air forces? Did they just all die overnight? Do biplanes no longer exist?
They were planning to move it out in two weeks. They did it in one.
Those Earth Empire engineers better get a hefty overtime pay!

I'm not asking them to destroy the mech. I'm questioning why they wouldn't be sent there to begin with. They'd get shot down with it's impossibly nimble arm canon. You saw how a fucking air bison was apparently helpless in dodging that thing.
Ah I remember those days.
Contacts are the way to go.
Is that what actually happened? He came up with it overnight? I hope it is, because that's the only reason how Verrick could have not known about this.
EDIT
I'm not asking them to destroy the mech. I'm questioning why they wouldn't be sent there to begin with.
They'd still be effective on the ground troops and it take very little coordination to hit the mech in-between shots
A week is as equally impossible as a day. I don't care how many people you got working on that, you are not just making a fucking Jaeger in a week from scratch.
Uh huh.Except I don't need vision correction. I wasn't being sarcastic, this is solely* because I look really damn good in glasses.
*mostly
Nah, she doesn't need a man as weak as Bataar (Junior).I'm disappointed with Kuvira's reaction. I expected something like "She'll never keep us apart. I'll chase her to the ends of the earth" not "If I can't have you and the city, I'll take the city".
Giant mech made me laugh but I'm okay with it. Too bad the Avatar universe is likely done once Korra ends, I think a mature sequel on Adult Swim could be excellent.
I thought the foreshadowing of the mech was when Kuvira dismantled the Zaofu domes (for the amount of metal required).
Which means the construction could have been going on since then or shortly before, and the idea could have been even farther back (since the idea is just "a giant version of something we already have").
For those unfortunate enough to have never read Sandman, this isn't missing any speech bubbles. This is the character trying to reply, and failing because he can't think of anything to say to what he has just been told.

Well he is Su's son and you said the same thing about her lol
]Well, Bataar didn't necessarily have to tell Verrick anything. [/B]We know production started in a week. But no, it's still impossible. You don't just theoretically design something like that and have it work on the first go. There would be SO many test models. Not to mention the sheer fuckton of supplies needed just as sheer building material. In addition to the extra supplies needed to help build it. And Kuvira would have to be trained in how to make it work.
Maybe if they said Bataar had been working on this since he left Zaofu. But otherwise, no. Just no.
And it will be fucking EPIC.Spirit Korra will use chest beam kamehameha against Mecha-Kuvira spirit blast. The blasts will collide and they will need to see who is stronger to prevail.
Korra will be all "I NEED TO TAP INTO MY SPIRIT AND MY FRIENDS AND GOOD"
Kuvira is just gonna be "I NEED MORE POWER FEED ME MORE VINES I DONT CARE IF THE MECH IS FALLING APART IT WILL HOLD"
Oh come on now, peeps.is now literally:
And it will be fucking EPIC.
Oh come on now, peeps.
She's like, the Good Hitler.
is now literally:
Oh you know. Someone who is courageous, strong, intelligent, who cares for her people (but only people like her), and willing to do whatever it takes to do what's right and establish order in a chaotic world. Everything Kuvira does, she does it for the greater good. Sacrifices, like her fiancé and Eskimo Jesus, are a harsh and consuming cost she's going to have to live with. But she carries the world, and the future of the world, on her shoulders, and her shoulders alone. What does the Good Hitler even mean?

I'm sometimes concerned for you.
Book 3>Book 1>Book 4 >Book 2
Overall, despite its flaws, I loved the trip. I dont care how it ends.
And Korra will forever be a part of my Avatar marathons...
