What are your thoughts on 4chan?

I can't remember where I heard it but "reddit is stupid people acting smart, 4chan is smart people acting stupid". Having spent time on both over the past few years I deem this to be true.

If you know what you want and aren't just wandering about it's great because people aren't held up for their opinions/worried about their accounts; when things get going it's the best discussion on the internet because no holds barred. Also, if you actually believe everything that is posted on 4chan then wow, seriously, you must think everyone is a raging bigot.

I skimp through /mu/ /tv/ /v/ and the wallpaper boards mostly, quick browse, see if something catches my eye. That and everywhere else is dancing around an issue because of being afraid to offend somewhere I can rely on getting the info from 4chan.

I think 4Chan is fantastic in small doses, there is lots of vitriol around of course but I see that as nothing but blowing off steam for many, whether that makes it okay or not I honestly couldn't care less. I have read many interesting things on there and I think it has its special place on the internet.

I used to frequent reddit a lot until I realised it was nothing but karma dickwaving, not my cup of tea.

Neogaf has stuck for me because coherent discussion usually takes place without neccessarily this heirarchy of sorts affecting things too much.

I can so relate to this.
On other websites I always feel all the opinions are filtered.
On 4chan I know people are either giving their 100% honest, ugly opinion or trolling.

I hate it, really. But - oddly enough - some of my best friends are actually people that frequent 4chan and participate on there daily. Lol

It's not a meme. The bigotry is not equal opportunity. If you deviate from that particular combination, you have to be prepared to be lambasted with bigotry about your phenotype. Not everyone has the skin, fortitude, or patience, to ignore it and move on, and that's probably who Onemic's advisory was trying to reach.

nvm: read it wrong.

probably fake

Who the fuck is revealing their phenotype on an anonymous site.

I don't get it.

Brilliant.

There's obviously a lot of trash, including racism/sexism/homophobia, but occasionally you'll find a really interesting and in depth discussion of a very niche game like Mount & Blade that you wouldn't really get on Gaf.

But Mount & Blade is a Turkish made game, so it deserves their usual racist scorn!

/mu/ is contrarian and angry, but worth reading to keep up to date.

/tv/ can be funny. Its mostly baneposting now, but that can be funny on occasion. (for you)

/x/ is hilarious.

Stay off the rest.

I usually try to avoid it, but there's some legitimately funny stuff that comes out of there.

Except these things are irrelevant on 4chan because everyone's anonymous.

Everyone is anonymous, but 4chan's culture is in part defined by the most vocal members, and that vocal minority/majority (probably the latter, but I'm not 100% sure) is white, male, and straight.

4chan sucks there's no accountability because everyone is anonymous so no one puts any thought into any of their posts

This.

The place is toxic.
There is no reason why any of the good stuff can't happen anywhere else and the bad stuff can only happen there and on reddit because people aren't banned .. with the bonus that it is harder to find the actual person and arrest them

Except these things are irrelevant on 4chan because everyone's anonymous.

Except for the part that the boards are filled with homophobia, misogyny, transphobia and racism ... their HELLO is an homophobic word

I've been told they blow up vans and type out the word ''die''

Really though I enjoy the site, the weird thing is unless I'm posting porn I always take time to think about my posts even though I'm always anonymous. Like discussing a TV show or whatever, I'll treat it like a regular forum, check if I have responses, try to make sense etc. I mean... I still know it's me.

There's actually a dedicated LBGT board on 4chan, and the site is well known for working with the FBI.
Depending on what board you visit 4chan can either be helpful and nice, or a continous trainwreck like /b/ or /pl/

Million times better than Reddit, at least. How debate can take place on a site where you can simply down vote things you disagree with so no one ever sees them is incredibly stupid.

Yet 4chan still suffers from hivemind mentality, you might not get downvoted but you will get shitposted.

All communities suck.

It's amazing. Best place on the internet because no one gives a flipping fuck. Or at least it used to be. Some boards crapped out recently.

Brilliant.

Look at the post numbers. That took skill.

You mean like everywhere in the world is?
It's just a forum man, people troll, some are sincere, some don't care.
It's all what you make of it.

This is their purposeful, superficial barrier to entry to ensure that people who cannot handle their crazy as fuck board culture stay away. It's been ingrained in their culture for a decade.

Do you think that 4Chan actually, legitimately hates homosexuals, women and minorities?

Some of the best stuff on the internet has come from there. I personally love it for how much it's brought me laughs, but there is of course a lot of bad.

Some of them do, though. Not remotely all, but definitely some.

And hell, just look at a place like /pol/.

You're either blindly regurgitating what's been told to you or you really can't tell when anons are being edgy to push people out and when there's genuine hate going on.

Hint: Since around 2011 the latter happens FAR more than the former.

I don't get it.

It's the post number. The second post number ends in "88", which is "doubles" in 4chan lingo. Posts are counted by the entire forum, not a single thread. About 375 people posted in the 50 seconds it took the OP to respond, so it's next to impossible to force a particular post number.

"Doubles" has about 1-in-100 chance of succeeding as a fluke, so it's impressive when someone calls it and manages to hit it.

The OP called out that his first post was "singles", which is was. Then he (allegedly) predicted "doubles", as he went Super Saiyan.

Then he predicted "triples" as he went SSJ2, a minute and a half later, and his post count ended in "666".

Then he went "quads" for SSJ3, and the last four number of his post count were "4444".

That's ridiculous. If the picture's not fake, the poster has truly attained SSJ3-levels of useless novelty.

so they're just being homophobic, but not being homophobes?

Well you can write out the sentence "I hate gay people" and post it on the Internet without actually hating gay people.

I just did.

Some things are unacceptable to say, whether you believe it or not. Hate speech is one of those things.

I rather be in a moderated space where everyone has a username. That way, if I spent enough time here I will know what is sarcastic and what not. And I'm glad that stuff like fa**** gets you banned here. It's an insult, nothing else, no matter how often you try to tell people that it's a cute nickname for members of 4Chan.

I was on there a few weeks ago and some sick fuck had put a hidden camera in the bathroom to film his sister (possibly sister in law) that's all you need to know really.

Honestly it really depends on the board and the specific thread topic. Ys fans are pretty laid back but good luck going into a SMT/Persona thread without SMT/Persona fans telling the other side that their games are horrible and their waifus are impure.
