What are your thoughts on 4chan?

Well you can write out the sentence "I hate gay people" and post it on the Internet without actually hating gay people.

I just did.

It's virtually the same thing to anyone reading it, so it doesn't matter whether or not you hate gays. At best 4chan is a place where everyone is so comfortable with each other that offence can be taken lightly much like with irl intimacy, but it's still hate speech.

Honestly it really depends on the board and the specific thread topic. Ys fans are pretty laid back but good luck going into a SMT/Persona thread without SMT/Persona fans telling the other side that their games are horrible and their waifus are impure.

That's the best part.

On /v/ every once in a while you get a 'Who's your husbando?' threads. They have fantastic discussion, except when it devolves into porn.

Taken a massive break from the site. The problem with 4chan is that everyday new people find it and instantly want to be accepted. Due to the anonymous nature of the site you can't tell the age (in terms of being on the site) of one member to another. Of course this means that a new member can't be dismissed just for being new (i.e. junior culture on GAF) but at the same time it means they instantly want to be one of the guys. This can lead to obnoxiousness and meme spouting as many people outside of 4chan think this is all the site is about and thus once you go to the site that is how you must behave. As it became more popular this problem became more and more pronounced. Grin man likes to grin illustrated this point years ago and that was before the problem really became apparent.

Of course this affects the big boards like /b/, /v/ and /a/. The smaller communities are not as bad. /po/ being the best of course.

The first few years after meme culture became part of the public mind were unbearable. It's not quite as bad today.

Honestly, I think I would get depressed and try to kill myself if I ever step on 4chan.

So personally, I don't want anything to do with 4chan. It's hard enough dealing with the bullshit around the news on OT GAF.

You might be surprised by how many genuinely funny and day-brightening things you can find on 4chan.

The niche communities are worth having a look at if you're into them, since most of them are good. It's the mainstream places like /v/ and /b/ that can make you depressed by reading. /tg/ is a treasure trove of fun things if you're into that stuff, and I love that place.

I love 4chan humour. it's hilarious and outrageous at the same time.

I was also there the day moot destroyed /pol/. that was funny lol, nazi kids trying to spam /s4s/ in return etc.

I'm sure I'll find myself on there again one day. Though I'll probably find myself having to update a load of scripts. Actually one of the main reasons I left was that it was pretty easy to get spoiled on /a/ and paedos ruined every thread about Mitsudomoe. It's a blue board for Madoka's sake!. ;___;

Browse /a/ and /v/ from time to time. It's sometimes a good place for discussion, but it's usually a cesspool of tripe and people calling you fa**ot or ni**er because they don't agree with your opinions. It's a place where people can go and say whatever they want, and it definitely shows. Some of the more obscure boards like /toy/ are cool though. Good source for funny pics, reaction images/gifs, and wallpapers too.

Avoid /b/ and /pol/ like the plague though. Also rather browse 4chan than reddit.

I just love it. There's nothing else like it on the web.

I don't mind 4chan, its sometimes good for a laugh.

My wife has posted some revealing photos there for an ego boost, thats always fun.

Pics or it didn't happen. Prefereably with a timestamp

i couldn't help myself, force of habit ;) if it was posted on /b/ there is a great chance i propalby saw it. You don't mind do you? :P

i like it. i browse it since the days of Suiseiseki
i don't spend much time on it because i'm trying to cut the time i spend browsing, i mainly visit /v/, /vg/, /int/, /f/
and /d/

4chan is scummy, but at least it doesn't hide behind a visage of respectability, like reddit does.

Yeah at least with 4chan you can hope they're joking. The "race realists" on Reddit that take over every /r/worldnews and /r/videos thread with copypasted lists of cherrypicked statistics are awful.

4chan is long past its prime. It's rising popularity has not served it well.

However, it still has value on certain boards and as a site with completely anonymous discussion as the rest of the internet moves toward requiring legal names for use.

Some of the boards can be entertaining and/or informative. I used to browse the toy board all the time but I ended up spending too much money on stuff I didn't need. The comics and cartoons board introduced me to some incredible material I otherwise never would have heard of.

If I didn't need a website that updated pretty regularly that I could view at work I would never touch Reddit. There are one or two informative boards, but for the most part it's just the same crap over and over again.

If nothing else I prefer 4chan over Reddit because it doesn't fall into that hivemind mentality. Everyone is anonymous and can't be held accountable for their comments so thoughts and opinions are often much more frank and honest (though there's also a lot more shitposting). There's no concern over saying something that will be upvoted.

The whole 4chan thing completely slid under my radar. I've never visited the site and had never heard of it until a few years ago. It seemed to be hugely popular one day with lots of references online and negativity and I genuinely didn't have a clue what people were talking about. It was weird.

Not at all, we never post her pics in the time stamp threads, just the "post your ex/current" or "pics you're not supposed to share" never face shots, usually skirts/heels or a nice lingerie set.

We get a thrill and a kick out of being asked for moar etc

Yeah the smaller boards are great. /pol, /b are awful and /v can have a lot of negativity.

I usually hang on /co. /pol appears now and then as does /tv.

/mu/ is pretty good. I don't visit it as regularly as before, but I check in sometimes. I've discovered a ton of good music thanks to Sharethreads.

Yeah. A lot of people are put off by /mu/'s hostile attitude, but it's a pretty good place for music discussion. /mu/ really encouraged me to expand my horizons, and stop thinking that an artist is bad just because they're very popular.

I think /h/ is good but it's pretty much dead nowadays.

I also like to browse /x/ every once in a while.

I don't know anything about the rest of the site.

I think it's gross and weird and I do not go there. I check out the /v/ recommended games wiki sometimes though and bookmark /a/ recommended manga images though.

I genuinely think the art related boards (/p/, /3dcg/, /gd/, and /ic/ specifically) are fantastic. /trv/ is also a pretty great board.

Honestly, a lot of the slower boards aren't bad at all.

/v/ is probably one of the shittiest communities on the internet. The community actively encourages reactionary shitposting, so it's nigh impossible to have a conversation that doesn't devolve into logical fallacies and buzzwords within a few posts unless it's like the middle of the night and kids are asleep.

You can actually discuss the board subject matter on /vr/ and /vg/, so they are better by default.

Can't go there unless I'm using the 4chanX script (native tools just doesn't cut it).

It's a swell place but take care of this and that board.

I love it. It's like a Wild West of forums where anything goes so you get the really awful with the really good. Occasionally I'll stumble upon an Eva thread on /a/ that makes me feel like a fool.

I'm partial to those images where you like...design characters or have a certain amount of points to spend on a house or stuff like that. Not sure what the word for them is.

EDIT: Like this

Damn you. I've been staring at this for the past half hour trying to decide. -_-

Great site if you got the time to wade through the crap I'm sure.

It's the same with every site -- GAF can be a shithole if you waste your time in the wrong threads. 2ch is a waste of time if you're in the wrong boards. Reddit is an endless circlejerk if you don't realize how the system works. They all can affect your work productivity adversely.
