Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

The compression hurts quite a bit, but lightning, in the snow, in the dark, is very nice indeed.

So i was doing a snow level with really heavy wether and holy shit.. I could not see shit with the cockpit view. So much snow.. Cant.. See... Shit.. Ahh corner!

Jeff Gerstmann.

hah, he's a fine chap and means well. Juuuust... clearly wants something from racing games I am in no position to relate to. Because even from day one, putting aside the fucked online implementation which is pretty much not what the vast majority of day one reviews called the game out for anyway, it was clear this was an insanely well designed driving game. Mechanically it's top tier, track design is generally phenomenal with few exceptions and there was more than enough content. Yes, it didn't have weather yet and it had a few balance issues at first, I wouldn't have given it a 10/10 or something. But most fans of this brand of racing game - of which there are so few even left anymore, pure skill vs. skill - would have recognized just how expertly Evolution executed Driveclub's component parts.

So Jeff Gerstmann wants something different from racing games than I do, and that's OK. But it does mean his opinion on racing games won't really continue to be relevant to me, since I can't relate to what he wants in that genre.

There's a lot of reviewers who wrote nonsense about DC, not enough "unlockables", not enough "car customization." Fug outta here with that shit, drip fed modern gamers I swear :P

Yeah um generally not gonna bother taking reviews seriously anymore

I mean it's a case by case basis, but in general I have a list of "Trusted GAFers" I read their views on and then decide. I don't put people on the list when they agree with me. To make the list, there's gotta be a game me and the person in question vehemently disagree on, and then after reading their criticism if I can respect the position, if it was well stated and well argued and defended, then that's a critic I know is worth following.

Mark of a good critic is when you can respect their views even when you disagree as passionately as is possible :D

Rushy if your reading this...please add mud/gravel/road tracks with rally cars sometime next year please it is shut up and take my money.

Think of the more amazing photo's and i think it fits perfectly in driveclub.

Like Motorstorm?.......

I just picked this up recently due to the weather patch and recent sale price. Wow, this is one of the best looking racing games I've ever seen. Not only is the weather jaw dropping, but the lighting (not lightning) is just insanely good. Also, the game is actually fun to play imo. I'm not that into sim racers, so this is a delight to drive since it's got a more arcadey feel.

As someone driving in 3rd person camera mode I'm disappointed. The game is severely lacking in splashiness when driving through puddles and overall the impact the cars have on the wet road is just bad since the water doesn't really disperse behind the cars (if only the visibility during rain was so good in real life), also no moving rear wipers. The backlight reflections during motion at night make me doubt my ps4 is not defective.

Is there a more severe setting than heavy/stormy? At least when standing the downpour seems to be quiet mild.

The starfield simulation at a snowy night really fucks with my ability to concentrate on the road but that's something I have to take a closer look when it starts snowing here, but seems to be way more distracting than irl.

Sometimes I wish I could be as easily impressed as most other people, but alas, that's the life a nitpicky person has been chosen to live.

If you are not impressed with Driveclub then I think you won't be impressed with games for your entire life. Maybe you just hate videogames.

Play it in first person, visually much more impressive imo.

So if there's one disappointing thing about the weather for me, it's that the snow just doesn't feel very...snowy. I mean, you can stop your car and see the snow falling around you, but I feel like the race should start with some snow accumulated on the roads and the nearby surroundings. I was playing some Canada track yesterday and it just didn't give off a snowy enough vibe.

But then I have to buy the game. You can see the dilemma this causes.

You can in single events. It just rains or snows depending on location and time of day/outside temperature. It's not there in the existing tour mode because the leaderboards are already in place

Was playing this last night in the night time with weather turned on, listening to the Wipeout soundtrack.

Probably the most enjoyable thing I've done with a videogame this year. Became an almost zen like experience.

Infact my opinion on this whole game has done a bit of a 360. I've gone from never wanting to play it again to wanting to pick up the season pass in the space of 7-10 days. What's the current state of play with the season pass? Is the schedule and amount of content due still the same? Have the server issues delayed or altered any of it?

That doesn't sound so bad. Thank you. I might actually buy this game after all. The pics and gifs make it tough to say no, especially at the sale price on Amazon right now.

Is the weather update automatic? Also, how do I access the weather effects in-game?

Sorry, I'm completely new to DriveClub.
Yes, it should download automatically for you. Rain & snow aren't present in the main events that are already in the game but it will be in events released from now on, To experience the weather you'll need to go into Single Events.

thank you

Played a couple of hours yesterday. It's quite easy in the first events if you know how to race at all lol. I'm assuming it gets harder? I really enjoyed the racing aspect of it. Physics take a bit to get used to and I wish weather was dynamic in the tour events.

It gets harder. A LOT harder.

Yeah, it'd be cool if there was snow build up on the cars and such. I don't think it snows on the Canada tracks though.

Does anyone have a link to a comparison between photomode AA vs in-game AA of the same shot?

That would be awesome. Maybe having snow accumulate in real-time might be a bit too much for the system.

Anyone know if that "walk around the car in FPS, open the hood, open the door, open the ... " feature that was showed in the first trailers are still in the pipeline, or they are gone?

They are gone. They decided against it because it seemed no one really cared for it after the novelty wears off
