If there's anything I love about Falco, it's how I have to know exactly when to use my attacks and know my opponent. Are there any other characters that require a lot of foresight and careful use of standard attacks and tilts? Basically, spacing is key.

Oh, regarding the ranbats, what would happen if one was unable to participate in one season but has played in previous seasons? Would we need to notify the guy in charge of any absence?
I'll do sign-ups fresh for each season.

Wii Fit Trainer.
I'll try out WFT, but I always felt weird playing as her. Maybe I can figure her out...
I'll do sign-ups fresh for each season.
Cool cool, thanks for responding. Also, would our ranking for one season carry over to another if we took a break in between?
Huh, so apparently Ikecide is a thing

Aether is one of the better tools available to Ike, if only because you can drag people down with you.

I think it will have to be handled on a case-by-case basis. For example, let's say you're in the top bracket, which has 8 people in it. Then you take a break for a season. Obviously, someone else needs to take your place for that season, so I move someone up from bracket #2. Then you come back. Whether you go in bracket #1 or bracket #2 would depend on how many players we end up having per bracket, based on general sign-ups, and where there's room. It wouldn't be fair to kick someone out of bracket #1 for you, and it also wouldn't make sense to have 9 people in bracket #1 but only 7 people in bracket #2.

Today in my ongoing For Glory travails: I finally took the plunge and bought a LAN adapter! After playing around a little last night, I realized that I was suffering some insane input lag. I never had any major issues on the 3DS version, but I feel like I'm at a continuous disadvantage when playing on the Wii U. Hopefully this will remedy my dilemma, though!

Was this brought up yet?

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/12/15/no-future-balance-patches-for-super-smash-bros-3ds-and-wii-u

Aside from a few things I feel like the game's pretty balanced.

Ugh. He doesn't out-and-out say "no." He just says they don't have any plans at this time--the same thing he said about DLC. I didn't interpret his statement to be as final as that article suggests.

35 people signed up.

Does anyone have reservations about the match format? Some folks have asked for 3-stock FT5, and I'm curious what others think.

Both 2- and 3-stock are fine by me. As a Palutena user, I would love to have custom moves available, but I realize that some people have some reservations regarding their use. I'd say we should allow custom moves so long as both parties involved agree. That way, both players are on equally unbalanced footing. ;)

I'll probably sign up for this thing Thursday but I'll have to say no to custom moves. Some of the characters get clear advantages over others with some of them. I'd love guaranteed Flame Choke to Dark Fists setups and the ability to use Bowser's Dash Slash but stuff like Link's Power Arrow gives a good Link a free 20% of damage if you screw up shielding.

------------------------

You can clank out PK Thunder with Bowser's Dair but the timing is strict. And Ness can probably shield in time to punish you anyway.

But when I was fighting Jorge yesterday I was actually making use of Bowser's Down Smash surprisingly.

In the same interview he also stated, that they have a team, which analyse the For Glory matches. Why have people monitory the game, if you don't wanna use the data for something.

Is it worth to get an amiibo or two of your mains just for Smash? I mean if you don't particularly care about collecting the figurines?

I really do think a music update is coming

There's an unused Mario Paint Medley in the files. It sounds pretty good.

There's no real reason to have held it back, other than for a planned music update.

There's also Miiverse music and tournament music in the files. Including a cool Wii Shop Channel Remix!

Miiverse will have 3 versions of the Mii Creator from the Wii as well assuming the 3DS remix and Brawl remixes return.

The Mario Paint track probably plays on Miiverse as well.

Guys, I need help, i want to main Olimar but I have no clue how to play as him. Is there any guide to control him? He's really fun to play as but my ass is getting whooped pretty hard.

I feel like you should only throw one Pikmin at a time with him. Otherwise you risk not having access to your dsmash when you need it. Never throw all three Pikmin unless you're okay with losing half of your attacks, including your throw.

This is probably a very dumb question, but does For Glory match players based on win %?
No one knows, but I have an 82% win rate, and I get matched up against some pretty awful players.

I'll be on tonight around 7 - 10PM PST if anyone wants to play. Gotta work first. ;_; Boo.

Anyone know of any weeklies/biweeklies in the SoCal area, near Mission Viejo? Only able to find local card shop tournies held monthly.

I totally know where you are coming from, but I want to see where this goes. :-D

In my mind, it simplifies things in this way: in a typical tournament format, I might be assigned to play you. Argh, it turns out to be a bad week, and our schedules don't match up. Que irritation. However, if I can play anyone I want, then I might play against Beef instead, because our schedules match up better. The round progresses, and everyone is happy. Everyone is completely welcome to play multiple matches in a week. I might try to knock out all 8 of my "rounds" in a week or two, for example. If I have the time, I think that's just fine.

It should be easy to tell who you have played previously. I'll design a chart in Google Spreadsheet for scores to be entered. Just look on your chart and check for the blanks to see who is left each week.

I have an idea of how to setup the schedule. We use this in our tennis leagues. Have a set opponent to play each week. But give 2 weeks to play that opponent. If the 2 week deadline passes, it either ends in a default, or both players can agree to a late score submission. To not be attributed a forfeit on your end if the deadline passes, you must give at least 3 different days of availability in the 2 weeks to play your match. Every match has 2 weeks except for the final match of the season which has a hard deadline of the season end date. Then you have playoffs where you must confirm your playoff availability before the season ends. If we are doing playoffs that is.

This method gives structure to the league schedule, gives flexibility, allows you to play matches ahead of time if you wish, and resolves any forfeit descrepencies.

Also, no custom move sets IMO.

Yeah, Quas already added two characters to stained glass art but he wouldn't release it unit they got confirmed.

Did he ever release the Mewtwo one?

Yeah I'm the opposite I don't know what my win rate is but it's probably below 20%, and I've gotten paired up with some ridiculous players I could barely touch.

The exception was yesterday when all the matches I played online felt pretty even

Having a hard time deciding which character should I focus getting better with. Currently I'm playing:

Sheik (I love how she handles, how the overall feel is pretty close to Melee standards. I dont like her short range and weak KO-power though. Really exhausting to play as)

Little Mac (Really fun to play, but feels like he's very difficult to play well, as air combat is such a massive weakness for him and his recovery isn't that great)

Shulk (Interesting to play as, some nice moves but feels very clunky and floaty, kinda Brawl-esque.)

Diddy Kong (My Brawl main, but now I'm having trouble controlling him accurately and can't really find any reliable combos)

Kinda been trying to find a character that would combine the good points of the above. Fun to play, relatively fast maneuverability, good recovery, and powerful KO moves. Maybe Diddy is the closest to that? Anyone have any suggestion which character I should also try out? How's Greninja?

This is probably a very dumb question, but does For Glory match players based on win %?

No, it's definitely not. You're matched up with whoever. I play bad people like 90% of the time and the other 10% are decent-mediocre players. In fact, the last time I got matched up with someone who was actually the same rough skill level as me was about two weeks ago.

I'm pretty sure win rate is just for the individual player to see, to have some idea on how they're doing as a player -- it's not factored into matchmaking at all. If it was factored into matchmaking I'd think the information on win rate or your percentage would be visible to the opponent.

About the only thing I can say that matters on when you might get better players is during certain hours. Late at night you're more likely to get better players because the younger side of the audience wouldn't be playing that late. But even still, there's such a wide area of skill flooding For Glory that it's highly unlikely for you to consistently get good players even during those late hours.

And if IT IS factored into it? Then it's poorly implemented. But with Namco's pedigree this is extremely unlikely which is why I think win rate isn't factored into matchmaking at all. Otherwise, if it was, I would be facing people better than me more consistently.

Glad to hear you got wired! LAN adapters are only $10, so it should be easy for everyone to get it done.

Customs if both parties agree seems like it will lead to "if you would have allowed customs, this wouldn't have happened", and situations where you play person A, they say "Woah, that custom is so good", and then everyone else says no to customs because they are afraid of dealing with whatever tactics you have. It's just so inconsistent. I think customs should either be legal, or not, and right now most people have said they would prefer to not have them included.

Dair will hit before Ness recovers. I know this because whenever I face Shamrock, there's a 100% chance I will spam dair and down B to try and smack him through PK Thunder. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I don't have a firm grasp on it.

Two weeks is a lot of time, though. That means the ranbat would take 4 months to finish, and we'd only have 3 seasons a year. I want a little more change-up than that. There won't be any playoffs, since it's Round Robin format.

Thank you for sharing the idea!

It really is pretty random.

My % went from an 85 to an 82 because I faced two players recently that I just could not beat more than 50% of the time. One of them was a Dedede player, which really hurt my ego because I thought I had that matchup figured out. This guy was something else, though. His spacing was absolute perfection at every moment. Just a hair out of my reach as another Gordo whacks me in the face.

Also, I think Dedede is the hardest character in the game to kill, right next to Lucario, Diddy, and ZSS.

Shiek - I love her too. Spot on with the range issues and Lack of killing power. I do think the U Special can kill along with the Side Special and Down Special. Not reliable and damn tough to land. Same thing with Usmash. You basically have to exhaust yourself on each stock to get the opposing player to 150+. Need more research here...

Little Mac - JTails has an awesome vids detailing on how to effectively play Little Mac. Interesting stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP3YMrYGNcE

Shulk - My Issue with Shulk is the timing and hitboxes. Also having the Nuetral special toggle the stances is.... distracting. I dont like using him but I can see someone using his range to their advantage. Seems really easy to punish on many of his attacks though and the weird hitboxes led me to a lot of whiffed attacks.

Diddy Kong - Have not put in a lot of time but Diddy is kind of like Shiek. Has issues killing but is a bit more versatile. I dunno. I haven't played enough Diddy to comment much

Im a Peach main who has been having great success to ask away if you plan on playing her.
