Ended up cancelling Link and Captain Falcon because I haateeee the coloured stands. Going with these for now: Samus, Fox, Toon Link, Zelda.

Agreed. I'm thankful my fiancee was around to do it. I was commuting to work at the time it happened. Lots of scalpers were on hand to order multiples. I believe people at CAG were bragging about getting a bunch... Around here people were getting 1-3 at the most. There...Ive heard 9+ sometimes. Not sure if that's true but we didn't attempt to get more than the 1.

Yeah my Little Mac just disappeared from my GAME orders a few days ago with no email or notification whatsoever and he's not available at all on the store, so naturally I reordered him from Amazon.

If anyone is buying at TRU in store, grab a local ad that has them at 12.99...I just learned they price match local ads according to TRU's website.

Went by my local TRU this morning and picked up Smooth Criminal Luigi. They only had 5 left as of 9AM. Tons of Zeldas, none of the other new characters were to be found.
EDIT - Sorry, I meant to include the location which is Anderson, SC. They also had a Kirby that was loose inside the packaging, I don't know if those are worth anything more than normal, though.

There's some dock strike or whatever and Nintendo is usually conservative in production. The jakks pacific toys were a pain to find as well when those came out earlier this year.

Also, I was in Hamleys on Oxford Street about 30mins ago and they had about 10 Pit and 6 Diddy Amiibos for those of you in London.

Yeah, I think that's their legit customer service Twitter... I was kinda keeping an eye on it yesterday during the day. Unfortunately, that whole "We'll be taking preorders sometime before the Feb. 1 release date" line is their word-for-word phrase that they were giving everyone yesterday, too :-( So I have my doubts that @AskTwitter has a lot of real hard-hitting info... I think that they're just there to make customers feel like they're being listened to. I hope that I'm wrong, though!

wow so nintendo were smart not dropping Wii U prices this holiday season, they seem to be doing great with the amiibo line and its still early days.
if they follow skylanders, they will create reposes of existing characters and they can slyly rerelease figures for mainstream fans (eg a repose that functions identically to an earlier model) while getting collectors to spend bucks buying all new models (in case they become rare) keeping both sides happy - ie as long as they release new models that function the same as old ones.
so repose can also mean a new version of course, like different versions of zelda from the various zelda games, a bit like how they are new skins in hyrule warriors
nice to see nintendo should get the revenue they need to continue their business through the Wii U disaster
