Well if you like the Aura Rage go for it. But fighting a good ROB is always going to be a bullshit fight. Looking at you Jorge. Can't even swat them Gyro's away. They go nowhere. But really it's hard to decide who I want to commit to. It's a toughy between Ganondorf, Bowser, Dedede.
I like that Lucario is a pretty safe character.
Everything Bowser does has endlag on it outside of his jabs, and is punishable. I was really raging last night when I played a fantastic Marth that I just couldn't beat. It would always get down to 1 stock for each of us, and he would pull off the killing blow before I did. However, I only got as far as I did because, like any good Bowser player, I take a lot of risks. The risks I take tend to pay off, but it's so nice to play a character that wins
without having to take risks. I am not a very risk-oriented player. I like a lot of safety in my gameplan. I originally thought Bowser was that kind of character, because he has great range and excellent defenses, but over time I've discovered that most characters have attacks with more range than him, and I have to get in to do real damage, so risks are necessary. This is greatly displeasing to me.
I would never quit Bowser completely, just because I have spent so much time on him and when things go right, it's
soooo good. As I keep playing better and better players, however, the number of matches where things keep going right dwindles, and instead I feel more like a traditional grappler, suffering as I try to get my few hits in that win the game. Keep in mind that I'm not in any way complaining about Bowser, or saying that he's not good. I am just realizing that I am enjoying him less as the metagame evolves, and I might need to find a new focus.
You know what I love about Lucario? I think he has the best goddamn counter in the game. Counter a projectile from half a screen away, and Lucario will still hit the opponent. It's such a simple answer to keepaway attempts. I don't care about the Rage Aura, and I honestly think it's overrated. I would rather take the high Aura buffs and spread them throughout his character for more balanced play. Because it always makes me groan when I play perfectly for 30 seconds at the beginning of a match, whacking an opponent left and right the entire time, and I've only done 40% damage, which is just a few hits from Bowser. I know Bowser hits hard, but it's a huge difference. Then I'll get hit a few times and we're even, even though I've been playing far better than my opponent. There are two sides to Lucario's Aura.
I do like the playstyle that his Aura grants him, though. The range on side B and the power of his neutral B is pretty rad. I'm not huge on him aesthetically, and I'll probably go semi-random for a while until Mewtwo comes out. I'm hoping Mewtwo is very polished as the result of many months of work by Sakurai's team. If Palutena's teleport had a hitbox on it Zelda-style, I think I would main her forever.
