Wow, some people playing this game are such losers. I play a villager, all he does it go to ledge, keep hopping off of it and shooting a gyroid and his slingshot, and does that for the whole match. I lost 'cause I accidentally wasted my 2nd jump and suicided. But, worst of all was a Ganondorf. After we both got to one stock, he did a ledge thing too. I figured he was trying to suicide but kill me first. Well, I got impatient and fell for it. After, he changed his name to "Hahah" and "Spammer" because I was using eggs when he wouldn't come off the ledge...

After grabbing the ledge once, the second time and beyond they will have no invincibility frames when grabbing the ledge. Time it correct and go in with a dtilt or smash attack. The new mechanics help prevent that kind of ledge hogging.

Well, it sounds like the strategies they used both worked. If you're playing in For Glory, that's pretty much what a lot of people will be going for if it works, I imagine. The BM's not cool, though.

And yeah, the point above about ledge invincibility.

I thought that too, but it was weird. On the second time, he would be vulnerable, but when he did it again, he was invincible again. I should have saved the replay, but I was pretty mad afterwards.

For Glory is pissing me off. The douche Ganondorf guy is HappySalesman, so if anyone faces him, please beat him in the most annoying way xD

The Villager's wasn't working, it was just a personal mistake. I jumped to go off the stage and accidentally used both jumps, and by the time I realized, I was too low. I was at like 22% and them 100% when I SD'd. He left right after, so I figure they didn't want to lose.

Anyone want to 1v1?

lol that's it for me man... GGs :) had a lot of fun

lucario is so wtf
Me too, only sealed the deal twice but all the rest were super close! Which is the best kind of match.

About doing that tilt. How would I run in and stop and do the tilt fast enough in order to get them? Tilts seem pretty hard to do, and there isn't a lot of time that they stay hanging on the ledge.

So I recently bought this game.

I'm a total newbie to Smash Bros, and I have no idea what's going on when I play. I'm a Tekken/SF player from way back. I love the characters in this game, and it's so beautiful, but I'm so lost when playing. So much going on, and my character is often so small, and there are no "moves" like I'm used to with traditional fighters.

Please, help me get started. I really want to "get" this game and love it.

Is there a really good tutorial (video or text, or both) for complete newbies that you'd recommend?

Watch the How To Play video for basic controls and objectives, try out Classic mode on default difficulty with a character you want to learn, stick to 1-on-1 matches when they're an option, and pay attention to loading screen tips. After clearing Classic, you unlock the trophy for that character, and an alternate trophy tends to show up in the shop for that character shortly after. These usually have some basic tips on the moves for that character. If you go into the character customization screen, you can also read a description of all of the special moves, which usually tell you if there's some non-obvious effect or follow up for each move.

For most characters, controls are as simple as combining one directional press with one button press. Just get a feel for how much damage they do, how far they can knock back the opponent, and which ones can be used for recovery when you get knocked off the stage yourself.

All done Magius?

GGs. So many stupid SDs. -_-

We both had our moments. You were taking a while to choose after Pikachu so I didn't know if you wanted to play someone else. I started winning stuff as Bowser once yours left.

That Thunder Spam though. You really wanted Meta Knight dead. Ha ha.

This is a pretty good starter guide by Maximillian that doesn't get too overwhelming. It has a comedy skit that's interwoven into the video, but you can just skip to 2:10 to get to the informative content.

If you really want to get in deep, I'd suggest going through this series of videos. It has some real good info and even gets into the specifics of characters to maybe help you decide on a character.

However, if you're just getting started and aren't worried about the more advanced elements of the game, you can honestly pick up pretty much everything just by playing a lot. Or asking any of us here!

Well first make sure you watch the How To Play video in the vault which will teach you the most basic mechanics of tilts/smashes/specials.

Then just mess around in the 1 player modes for a while and try every character to see which feel best to you. Classic on the middle difficulties (maybe between 3.0-5.0 intensity) would be good. Try to avoid 5-8 player smashes though, as those can get overwhelming especially when you're using a character you're not familiar with.

Once you have a few characters you've decided you like more than others, you can go more in depth with them and learn how to use their moves by playing 1v1's against CPUs or doing 1P modes on higher difficulties. I'd also do what Sixfortyfive recommended and read up on character trophies since some moves are really unclear about what they do until you use them right. For example: Jigglypuff has a move that puts it to sleep, which might seem useless at first but is actually one of the most powerful moves in the game if you use it while on top of an enemy. You can always ask GAF too if you think you're missing something when it comes to a certain move.

Playing For Fun online might be helpful too once you've pinpointed you're preferred characters but I've never done it myself so I don't know. For Glory would be too difficult when just starting out.

I don't recall you ever SDing. :p

Yeah, Bowser is still my best, and playing against him his hard for me. I often psyche myself out.

GGs Kei. That last match was fun with the spikes lol.

I want to play Karst too if possible. Are you still up for games Karst?
Sure. Making a room now.

Bought a WiiU a day or so ago, borrowing a copy of Smash from one of my friends until I buy myself a copy or decide to go back to the 3DS version for awhile. Anyone care to add me while I'm still on for the night?

NNID is ValkyrurS7 if anyone wants a go.

So, to anyone who said the Dr. Mario 8-Fever Challenge was easy, you're absolutely wrong. That was probably one of the most aggravating experiences I've had in a while. Doc is just slow enough that dodging the increasingly numerous hazards became extremely difficult as time went on. I'm so relieved to be rid of that awful Challenge!

Does Duck Hunt actually have any decent kill moves? I'm getting pretty sick of losing matches because I can't smash the other player off the stage when they're on 100+% and some dick Captain Falcon or Diddy dick can hit me off at 80%. I feel like the kill potential is way off balance in this game at times.

As a fellow DH user, I feel your pain. In addition to UAir, a sweetspotted BAir is great if you can time it properly, and NAir also has surprisingly good knockback.

Anyway this pic should make me sad but instead it makes me uh... think awkwardly

Looks like they weren't able to catch the Smash Hype Train Bus... ;__;

Did anyone ever hear/post this?

It's the yet-to-be-released Tournament Registration theme.

I dig it! I have to say, the Smash 4 theme is probably my favorite main theme in the series thus far.

Saving the best for last, naturally.

Can't wait! <3
