I don't follow what's "top" since I'm really not into much of today's mainstream music. That might be part of the problem -- none of today's top music on radio is a good indication of "the best" in terms of quality. Hasn't been that way in a long time. There are many examples of rap/hip-hop that doesn't put a positive light on violent thug culture.

Ever heard of The Roots? You know, the group that does the music for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon? Common? Q-Tip? Blackalicious?

Heck, even Kanye West for that matter even though I didn't really like his recent albums.
