NoA: "there are more great games on Nintendo platforms than anywhere else!"

It's certainly true. Out of all the hyped 3DS and Wii U titles I'd say 9/10 of them delivered. Looking over at what has been hyped for PS4 and XB1 I'd say 5/10 delivered. Before Watch Dogs or Destiny or Knack had come out, I was thinking "Nintendo is gonna get their ass kicked" but looking at those now... I only own Destiny and I don't even wanna get near the other two and Destiny certianly didn't live up to its hype or even Bungie's standard, even if it is very good when it finally reaches its potential in, say, a raid or in the Crucible.

Looking back at Nintendo's lacklustre lineup 1-2 years ago and a disappointed Geoff Keighly talking to a delusionally overconfident Reggie Fils-Aime I better understand where Reggie was coming from now. Nintendo is "maniacally focused" on delivering great games. I've gotten the impression that they won't release a product they don't stand by even more than ever since Wii U, and they're not afraid to delay even when they're in a games drought and with no third party titles to fill in the gaps. Every mainline title like Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash and so on has been truly great and I'm guessing it will be no different with Star Fox and Zelda U, and that's not to mention all the goodies we got in 2013 on 3DS.

DKC: TF's Metacritic score. Wow.

60
If the regular levels were as inventive as the boss battles, then Tropical Freeze would be a surefire hit, or at least a game that demands more of your attention. No matter how much I was looking forward to seeing DK in HD, it's difficult to maintain that enthusiasm when the end product plays it so safe: even the visuals fail to make an impact. They're nice enough, but like the level design, the environments are mostly bland.

....Why did I read this.

Retail only.
Current gen only.
Meta over 85.
And user review over 85.

Quite specific with numerous qualifiers, especially that retail only garbage. But corporate PR is what it is.

In reality all the systems have a lot of good games, and retail vs digital is absolutely irrelevant to game quality.

Are there really enough differences between Pokemon X and Y for them to be counted as two games? I haven't played Pokemon since Red.

The "and user score" bit is so misleading. Users downvote crap all the time because they're angry about something.

Minecraft's at a 6.1. Dragon Age, 7.5. FFXIV, 7.6. And on and on.

Not everyone likes RPGs and Platformers believe it or not.

What irks me is that the 3DS side shows off so many damn RPGs. 3DS has plenty of unique titles that could be there instead of fucking Pokemon.

5 isn't really that many, and not all of those unique titles meet Nintendo's painfully reachy specific guidelines. I'm more disappointed they excluded stuff like DKCTF (due to the 85 score thing) than by anything that was included. Wish they'd promote games instead of scores, though it's mostly a good list (the non-exclusive inclusions are kinda funny though)

They're also "retail only" which is a big fuck-you to indies

They count 3DS too, so Vita should be included.

It should, but I'm guessing given they are trying to skew thing to their favor, that they are not.

Vita alone has user score games 8.5 and above:

Persona 4
Rayman Origins
Littlebigplanet
Rayman Legends
FFX
VLR
Gravity Rush

Just from a quick browse.

How, exactly? Critics can be swayed by conflict of interest, users can't.
No, but user score can be bombarded by people spamming 0/10 ratings because of minor issues or silly internet outrage. User score would be great if people had some incentive to give actual fair reviews, but they don't so it's mostly worthless. I really don't think "conflicts of interest" affect metacritic review scores much if at all when there's hundreds of outlets reviewing the game, especially compared to how common 0/10 user spam reviews are.

On-topic: Nintendo has definitely been killing it lately. Let's hope Sony and Microsoft will put up more of a fight next year and start making some great games as well.

Why even bother comparing themselves with X1/PS4. The market has already spoken and bought those instead. They had a whole extra year to drum up sales and did fuck all. At this point anyone who wants Nintendo games knows where to get them.

That's great Nintendo, so what happens once I'm done with all 18 of those great games? That's right, I jump ship to other consoles that third parties actually support. You might have the most exclusives on your console, but what you don't have is anything else that would make me pick up a controller and play it. I don't mean to sound harsh, I love Nintendo, but they keep on goofin'.

While I agree, according to that graph there are only 8 great games on every other (probably current-gen) console. However, it counts both Wii U and 3DS games for Nintendo. If it'd just count Wii U games then it'd just be 8 games as well. :V

Well, I own more games on my Wii U than my PS4 and XBO combined.

And my 3DS has even more games than that.

Granted, the Nintendo systems have been out a bit longer than PS4/XBO/Vita.

i see way more than rpgs and platfomers in that list of games

List of games meeting the criteria, I'm counting 9 right now:

PlayStation 4:
The Last of Us Remastered (95 / 8.7)
Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (86 / 8.5)

Xbox One:
None

PlayStation Vita:
Persona 4 Golden (93 / 9.3)
Rayman Origins (88 / 8.5)
Machinarium (88 / 8.5)
LittleBigPlanet PS Vita (88 / 8.8)
Rayman Legends (87 / 8.7) (probably not counted)
Tearaway (87 / 9.1)
Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster (86 / 8.6)

I guess we can blame PS/Xbox fanboys trolling each other.

Even Nintendo doesn't acknowledge Donky Kong.
"Retail games for current generation systems with a Metascore of 85+ AND a User Score of 8.5 or better as of Dec. 19, 2014"

Aren't they throwing shade at* their own first-party games by not including them? (I mean Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze and Pokémon ORAS)

I haven't played DK:TF myself but 83 on Metacritic sounds pretty low for a game that is often mentioned as one of the best game of 2014.

*yeah I know everybody despise the "shade" expression but oh well

Also Fantasy Life shoud totally be on there but it was criminally overlooked and panned by critics that haven't played more than the (boring) main quest
