Korra didnt get any character development on Season 1, everything was handed to her in a silver platter, at most she learned to be a bit more patient, or do you mean something else?If S2E1 can hit the reset button on Korra's character development, so can my headcanon.
His best friend betrayed him.
I think that's what they were going for in that finale, and by extension, linking both Korra and Kuvira's characterizations together. My issue with that is Korra's development was clunky this season. We have a tendency to dehumanize those who commit unspeakable acts of violence and cruelty. When in reality, they are no different than ourselves.
Korra accepted the uncomfortable truth that the people she had to fight were human beings who had the same hopes, fears, and insecurities that she herself did.
Maybe it's just me but that is message that I got from the finale.
At the very least I think you could say Korra learned to listen to what others had to say and realized that people were there to support her at the end of season 1. Season 2 dumped all that.Korra didnt get any character development on Season 1, everything was handed to her in a silver platter at most she learned to be a bit more patient, or do you mean something else?
most relationships start with no romantic history
Ah, trappings. I can understand that a bit. It's pretty light (contained to two eps other than general garb) compared to other shows but if you don't enjoy fanservice as a general rule, it's harder to get past it.
The content is very good though. The theme is pretty clear and the show keeps focused on it. The social sci-fi really sets the stage for that. It even explores it a bit without being too overbearing in any direction either. Lots of nice grey. =P
Just finished it....wow...that was such a great closer for a fantastic series. It's a shame such a great franchise has been put to rest but wow...that was a superb finish. Korra's journey as an Avatar has been rocky at times, but seeing her fully realized in the end. That was just perfect.
Also I haven't gone through the thread but I can't be the only one that was pleased that Korra and Asami became a couple....A powerful ethnic lesbian character was done the right way in a children's show no less....Wow.. Just bravo!
This is actual not true.
Here's the thing.
The first episode set my expectations for something serious.
What followed was some horrible world-building where I felt that everything was utterly unrealistic. A society of floating scavengers IMHO will look totally different from the happy go lucky commune that we were shown.
Basically I remember always annoyed by something when watching that show.![]()
What is true then?
Love at first sight? lol.
You know for all the shit that this show DESERVES to get when it comes to its story and characters, it is nice to see a post like this every once in awhile just to break up the figgin' monotony of frustration and disappointment.
Yes, but these people have spent at least 4 years together and in those 4 years, we've only seen them alone with each other for like ten minutes.
Wat? You guys didn't like it?....
Wat? You guys didn't like it?....
No most relationship are built on mutual attraction. The whole "I suddenly realized that I'm in love with my friend whom up until this point I've never been attracted to" only happens in shitty romantic comedies.

That Korra and Asami will have many adventures on the Spirit World we will never see!Great ending to the series. Not quite as epic as the original ATLA, but that was a different beast altogether. God, I can't wait for the next thing the creators do. Hopefully it's on Netflix or something.
So what does the spirit portals opening up mean?
You just like being annoyed, eh? ;P
Can't say I don't mind shouting at stuff sometimes.
I loved it, personally.Wat? You guys didn't like it?....
its really over guys.......
i want another season
I loved it, personally.
But when it comes to this show, take my opinion with a grain of salt and all...
That's because I am always hopeful that "well, this episode we'll finally get the good stuff".
But in any case this is a Korra thread so I'll shut up.
As much as a love seeing gay couples in mainstream media, Korra and Asami relationship doesnt feel earned. Its as if the show creators went on tumblr to see what people wanted. Varrick and Zhu Li felt genuine.
My problem with Korrasami is like it was born from some broken ass bechdel test.
"Hey there are two female characters that are close friends and actually manage to have meaningful conversations that doesn't involve Boys or dating? Obviously its because their in love with each other and totally lesbians now."
There was nothing in any of their interactions with each other through out the show to point to anything romantic between these two characters. That last scene was just pandering to vocal part of the fan base.
It's the same type of craziness that has turn the Adventure time fan base into a cesspool.
Given that I liked Korra's half-date with BOLIN better than the ENTIRETY of her saga with Mako... I kinda just wish the series focused on two "girlfriends" (in whatever sense) and built on that key relationship than sort-of switch 'besties' mid-series. As sweet and progressive as it was (and I *loved* it for that), I agree, it still kinda felt poorly developed. Varrick and Zhu Li didn't have much build-up either, but it was a lot more interesting to watch (due to fun use of slapstick).![]()
All the "shipping" nonsense that fans get into, is so fucking lame... That being said, Korra and Asami built up a really strong friendship over the last two seasons. Not every strong relationship has to be either romantic though, so the romantic connection between them felt a bit too cliche. But I don't think it was unearned.
I've heard people say that casting a black man as the lead in Star Wars VII is “pandering”.
Making Ms. Marvel a Muslim Pakistani-American is “pandering”.
So having Korra and Asami be in a romantic relationship is “pandering”.
You know what?
It’s about damn time content creators started “pandering” to groups other than straight white dudebros.

I'm not really a shipper. I'm pretty boring, 90% of the time I just go 'yay' for the canon couples than anything else.
I think if the series maybe spent ONE episode to some 'adventure' Korra and Asami had (even plot-related where they gotta go do some "plot thing" together the way Katara and Zuko had that 'one episode') then I'd buy it more than simply doing something viewers would love than for the character's own progressions.

With Korrasami stuff I think it's key for them to have shown them being friends first. Because if they did the same hing but without any of the other scenes from the season, that would be pandering. Could have it be done better? Sure, but it isn't really bad, just handled in a weird way. Two good friends taking a leap of faith after getting closer is a fairly realistic thing. It also isn't insulting the fan base by ending wih "omg I've always loved you".
I called that waaaaay back when she was sending Asami letters.
Suggest a new way to imply gay relationships in a kids show then.
