I have been fairly critical about how Analogue inaccurately led people to believe their product was further than it really was and have been keen to see them prove that the Analogue NT actually exists.

So I think it's only fair that I post the pics they just shared of the motherboard. The good news is that it looks great.

As a recap

See title: $500, which is indeed quite a premium to pay over a regular NES with one of those separate HDMI thingies.

But it looks really sexy, I'll give them that. Great for enthusiasts.

It's better to wait for the RetroUSB HDMI NES. It uses FPGA, has 100% compatibility (Except for lightgun games of course), has 4 controller ports, has famicom expansion port, can connect to PC to share scores online and will probably cost a lot less.

I wouldn't trust an FPGA to have 100% compatibility. It's still emulation.

The Analogue NT, to my surprise, have analogue AV output (RGB). This makes me now very interested in the project as I planned to acquire a famicom and RGB-mod it. The dual-slot is a cool feature too, I have to admit I wasn't liking the idea of using an adapter to play western games on a famicom and make a tower of doom.

The position of the power button is bullshit though.

If you´re asking $500 for such a thing, and you need Famicom CPUs and PPUs to put them together, I can imagine there being quite a bit temptation to write off Famicoms that might still be fixable as "broken" or "damaged". :-(

Yeah, that's why everyone has been pretty sceptical of Analogue's claims about this project, their previous prdoucts have looked sexy outside but messy inside. They have made some pretty big claims about the video output, like beating Framemaster and XRGB.

Don't think that's possible, if you look at the prices of NESRGB, Framemaster, an used NES and add in a machined aluminum unibody and a new custom PWB and new controller slots, it adds up. Not to $500, but then again, Analogue is clearly going for a luxury niche.

Like I said last time this came up, certainly not. I have an AV Famicom with RGB mod (PlayChoice-10 ppu), and it cost less than that. No-one should buy this.

I am...just waiting on some actual experiences with it and Chitta's words once he gets his.

Dude, $500 is not that bad for it. It is gonna cost about $300 to do and RGB-modded NES anyways. This one is custom. Obviously it is not for everyone but it is hardly out-of-this-world. It is a hobby and folks tend to spend money on hobbies.

I ordered (and got billed for) mine last May. Rationale?

- Can't bother to get a NES RGB modded
- Want something that looks good in our home, which is minimalist design in style
- Don't like adapters for playing Famicom games
- Don't want emulation, but the actual experience

Yeah, it's expensive - but still my main concern has been rather than will they ever manage to produce one.

I still have zero faith in this statement. You don't get to just proclaim that your implementation far surpasses the best commercial external upscaler on the market. Especially when you're doing this not as an established company, but as hobbyists who are working on a pet project.

That is likely some bold bullshit! That is the biggest red flag about the project. I'm gonna pipe it through a frammeister anyways.

Not a single one of their promised dates has been ever kept, even the motherboard images came a week late. So, I'd say we'll get the video in a week.

I enjoy the fact that it's an "all-in-one" box. Unlike every other projects out there it both outputs HDMI and RGB, Composite, S-video; it has two slots for full region compatibility, inherent compatibility with the Zapper and 3D glasses provided you use the correct video output and display. It's not emulation and it has a sleek design. I don't see any flaw beside the price.

I'm a cheap bastard so I probably won't get it. But it's high quality stuff.
