Sweet stuff.I mean there's always the The Legend of Korra opening done in the style of Angel
I mean it's actually really good. To be fair, I'd watch any show with this type of opening.
Except Sword Art Online. I'll never watch you. Not again...
Nothing new here.Butt talk in the LoK thread? Okay.

I never got any replies on whether I lost my bet or not. So I guess you guys agree I didn't?
There's a difference between flat and toned, unless you have a thing for out of control bursting at the seams booty. They're all flat at the gym, though.

Don't ask the Kuvira how the Satuski-sama soars!!!Satsuki-sama is what Kuvira could only hope to archive and failed pitifully.Same here. Nobody wants to punish me?
Sorry, what were you disputing? I remember vaguely since I was tied up in debating stuff in the finale. You think they technically used a Deus Ex. Is that what you are asking?
I'm not what going to turn this into a huge argument, as I happen to have a conflict of interest in this debate, but here are my reasons.
You say that DEM is a contriance for writers who wrote themselves into a corner to get out of. You admit it is a contrivance, but not a DEM because it's not plot relevant.
Well, for one, I'm not sure how this moment is not story relevant. Korra and Kuvira surviving is pretty important and we wouldn't have had the ending we did if it ended another way. It's a very short lived conflict, sure, as it was introduced then basically immediately dealt with, but I don't think that makes a difference. If, upon entering the spirit world, Korra got attacked by some random spirit, only to have Naga, who has been no where near this conflict so far, show up out of the blue and attack it away, that would also be a major contrivance to a very short lived conflict and rightfully called a DEM. So I don't think conflicts have to be related to the overarching plot to be counted as DEM's if they're solved through contrivance.
Second, yes, we have seen energy bending before, but never like this. Before, it was done to alter the bending abilities of people, which I felt more changed the nature of their spirits or something than actually moved their spirits somehow. But you know what, fine, it's called energy bending, so I suppose we can assume that means she can bend spirit energy. Okay, but how does she bend that energy? That thing was a fucking giant cannon that leveled entire buildings, entire towns. You're telling me that Korra has the muscle to wrastle down a weapon of mass destruction? That is contrivance if I ever heard it.
Third, if we take Zaheer at his word, then a DEM is impossible in all circumstances. He said Korra's power was limitless. That basically means she can do anything. If Korra had jumped up and punched Kuvira's mech with her bare hands without using any bending and defeated it that way, then we wouldn't be able to say that's a DEM because "Well, he did say her power was limitless."
But as I said, since this is my bet, I have a vested interest, and cannot objectively argue my case. So I'll leave it up to the thread to decide. If more than half of the people who had bets for the finale think I lost, then I lost. I think that's fair, right?
True. :/What terrible gym are you going to?
Yes there is.There's a difference between flat and toned, unless you have a thing for out of control bursting at the seams booty.

RIP Roman reigns.
I thought way back when you made that bet it would be contentious. It's why I worded my bets so specifically.
I personally don't think Korra creating a new spirit portal is a DEM, but I'm not going to argue about it.
True. :/
Yes there is.
Looks like it's time for me to leave my college gym.
It's not the specific creation of the portal I'm saying is a DEM, but the fact that she was able to bend the blast around her. I'm pretty sure that I did word it specifically though....does anyone know what page the bet started on?
I thought she was airbending the blast away.
I might be wrong but I think either Wan or Korra did that at some point in Book 2.
No it's Kuvira now and forever. Is this Space Dandy thread now
I don't think he lost the bet. The spirit portal didn't really solve anything, it just put a pause to the action. It's no DEM.Hmm I wonder what the rest of AvatarGAF thinks?
I see where Veelk is coming. Almost thinking maybe, Veelk should just decide for himself if he wants to change his avatar. If he feels that technically, he lost. But if you have a strong conviction you didn't, then I dunno.
Let me think on it. Curious what others think.
Honestly, I think at this point, people should just decide for themselves if they want to participate in the bets they made. They were meant to be fun. But the season itself was really strange, and not so much fun. I think the finale kind of took the wind out of the shows sail (coming off of Book 3).
I won't force anyone to change their avatars. But if people feel they should live up to their bets, and their word, then let us know and I'll pick your avatar changes. Satch is really honorable for taking on her bet head on, and sticking with it for a year. Seriously, she's awesome. Have so much respect for her. I was willing to let her out of it. And yet she still went through with it.

Main reason I don't like avatar bets is because there's nothing to gain from them, only something to lose. Seems silly unless there is something in the winning side to counterbalance the losing side.
Still, I'll get in this, I suppose.
I will wear a Korra avatar for a month if the finale manages to not have a deus ex machina.
In my case, the DEM is defined as Korra's victory being significantly contributed to by some random new power (either emphasized (like Jesus Jinora's Divine Intervention) or not (like Korra hulking out of her chains when the avatar state never suggested super strength before)) or knowledge (like Jinora randomly knowing what mercury is) to whichever character. The mechanics of how Korra wins have to be established beforehand atleast 2 episodes before the climactic battle. Also, while not necessarily required, I would prefer that even if the powers are established, I'd rather they are utilized in a believable way. We established that Suyin can metalbend and that mercury is metal, for instance, but seperating it from Korra on a molecular level seems like it'd be pretty impossible no matter how skilled a metal bender you are. But I can't predict what they'll do on that level of specificity and how believable something is is subjective, so I'm not making it a requirement.
Guess I need a new avatar also. Do your worst KorraGaf.
That's not a stupid face. Here you go Veelk:

I'll take it, but do you have another? I remember one really good one about Korra just having her mouth open in an expression of pure incomprehension, but I can't find it.
Seriously?Really? Most consider that one of the dumbest faces Korra made in the show.
Seriously?
There are worse I'm sure.
