The type of dissonance you get with her message is so warped it's absurd. Nevermind calling dudes shoe shining coons, defending Bill Cosby and the fact that she burns seemingly every bridge in the industry she can get her hands on. Nothing about her to me seems to indicate any level of genuine concern beyond getting that attention.

Fuck Iggy too, she's got her own issues, but absolutely none of them have caused any problems to Banks' career that she didn't start herself. That girl is toxic, and the message she brought in that interview while worth talking about feels best discussed in a civil manner away from her vitriol.

"Black culture is cool, but black issues aren't huh" is probably the only new and net positive thing she has ever contributed, and probably the extent of any nuance on the subject/her criticism of Iggy's "whatever" attitude towards anything bad that happens in the culture.

How does it make sense for Anonymous to have a "real" Twitter account? Doesn't that go against one of the main pillars of the entire non-organization?

On another note, this thread feels like a conglomeration of PopGAF sensibilities and Tumblr-esque social critique. The result is not pleasant to behold.

That is probably the best argument Banks makes. Iggy responded with a link to donation sites and said not-tweeting wasn't not-caring, but that felt like a reactionary gesture. Tragedies are easy to hide out from if no one calls you out and calling out silent white rappers in this case is really meaningful.

Why is Iggy, who isn't even American, required to "speak out" on race issues? If you're looking for that, shouldn't you look to US rappers? Most of whom didn't say shit all summer about Michael Brown or Eric Garner? Including TI's coon ass.

I guess this is true. FWIW, I don't think anyone has to speak out, and pressuring someone into the situation is like a set up/trap.

I didn't actually read Iggy's response until now, but it's kind of reasonable (perhaps she shouldn't have capitalized "YOUR government").

It all comes down to a pretty big chain of logic, and I don't know where you draw the line of perceived responsibility:

Iggy -> hip-hop culture -> hip-hop culture appropriation -> black culture -> black culture appropriation -> racial tensions in America -> racial injustice in America

Honestly, I can't stand Iggy Azalea either. Something about her, her persona, the way she acts makes me dislike her. Everything about her seems so manufactured to me. Quite ignorant and aloof about things too.

Because she is ignorant, abrasive and stupid. She is generally a piece of garbage but really, she is just a dumb young person who thinks she knows better and poisons all her professional relationships as a result. She'll look back on her life in a few years and realize all the dumb shit she did to ruin her chance.

This move came after Banks allegedly failed to get the song cleared for her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste.
