So Mako is the true hero? The true tragic character?

Dude is now asexual and afraid to let others in after the abuse he suffered from Korra? And then after he and his brother continue to put their life on the line for this "friend"...who can't be bothered to give them the time of day, the show ends cutting them out of the journey's conclusion and reflection with the main protagonist, so she can be off with her new girlfriend.

Damn. DAMN.

And people are asking for a villain Avatar when we had one all along. smh

Looking at it like this makes me feel even sadder for Mako.If I were him then I would've regretted ever meeting or dealing with Korra.
Well he's not living in poverty and having to rely on his mediocre bending team and petty crime to survive, I guess that counts for something.
He should get with Lin

I didn't word it well, the thread moves fast enough so if I take too long plotting out a post then it'll probably be irrelevant when I actually post it. She would ask for advice on things when she was really just looking for people to confirm her. After it failed to the point of destroying her relationship with Mako she learned that she needs to accept that she can't always count on people to agree with everything she wants. But there was at least one time where he pretty much told her that he didn't know what to do and she got mad at him for not telling her how to deal with her problems.
But, most of the bad shit happened in S2 because she did stuff her dad and Tenzin disagreed...so not exactly lesson learned there.

I dunno, but I get the impression at times.
LoK is light years ahead of Star Wars prequels IMO.

Korra bent the sexuality of every one of her friends. Bolin survived because she just crushed his heart.

Legit, I feel really bad Mako.

I know we all hated the guy, but considering all the work he put in. All the shit he did. To get treated like that by the writers, it's not right. Fuck.

He should have got his whole arm blown off (or at least paralyzed permanently).

At least then his fancy sacrifice moment would have had enough consequence to make him a hero.

I can't believe we actually reached 200.

Looking back at the previous threads.....I'm actually starting to miss the show :(

I think I'll comb through the old threads and make a wall of reactions to highlights of the show. The GAF community that surrounded this show is probably a huge reason I'm so fond of Korra.

lol they already took everything from him, and now you want to take away his arm. Dude lost his sexuality. Dude was denied a conclusion or a reflection with the protagonist at the end of their journey (when he put more work in then anyone else).

Mako the true hero.

Comparing the prequel trilogy to Korra is really insulting to Korra.

Personally, I think the prequels added to the universe and gave us some cool stuff. By cool stuff I mean both the clone wars cartoons which were much better than Korra.

Lin/Mako becoming lovers after dealing with bitter betrayal and abuse from the people they love. She's his superior, so they have to hide their love affair. I would watch it.

Yeah that's a good ending for him. Take his sexuality and his masturbation hand.

Bud Bundy still can't get a woman, no matter how hard he tries.

Your problem isn't that they didn't invite them, rather that there was no scene of them really bonding or kind of reflecting on everything as a group. So it felt like a big disconnect. They already had been apart for most of the books. So the ending with Asami being with Korra on their own, and never with all of the group, kind of solidified that the group really...wasn't friends anymore.

That is the perception you get. Since the ending only has characters off on their own. And it also gave no time or conclusion to Mako or Bolin who were supposedly pivotal members of team avatar (they got more screen time then Asami). Kind of funny, because when all is said and done, Mako and Bolin DID do more for Korra then Asami ever did. Just in terms of what they did during major battles. And yet they never got to reflect or be in any kind of conclusion of this journey Korra was on. They were just left to the side (cold).

They pretty much lay down their life for this person, that can't even bothered to give them a time of day. Pretty terrible stuff. So it makes Mako's loyal to the end line even more cringe in hindsight. Oh thank you Mako, that's nice to know you will die for me. Excuse me, going to go be with Asami now.

Also Asami not interacting with Bolin or Mako all Book 4, also made it seem like she was no longer friends with them. The whole "group" thing was actually kind of depressing when you think about it. Granted, the writing was always bad for the group. But in Book 4 you get a sense that, the group has drifted apart, and their friendship isn't really there (which logically, I guess none of them being friends including Asami and Korra never entirely made sense).

Good post. Put into words what I was feeling. Kind of a shame, despite the writing fuck ups I did like all the characters. Sucks to see some get sidelined at the end there.

Hey, and maybe this has been addressed, but this episode was supposed to have 6 extra minutes, right? I'm not crazy, right? That was announced?

If that time existed and it got cut, do you think that'll come out in the release? I wonder how that would affect the whole ending...

I don't get the idea that Team Avatar doesn't seem like friends.

Korra, Mako and Bolin were all a professional sports team together, so it's safe to assume there was a lot of hanging out and training together off-screen. Korra and Bolin have that pseudo-date, and they obviously enjoy each other's company. Then once Hiroshi gets revealed, they all spend a couple different configurations of literally living together.

With all they go through together in Season 1 I can easily see them at least being regular acquaintances, and then when they get pulled into the events of Season 2 they literally save the world together. And, at this point, they've basically all saved each other's lives at least once each, and that seems like a pretty good catalyst for a "close friends for life" deal.

6 minutes of Asami and Korra making out while Iroh watches.

Well given that Mako cheated on Asami and Korra betrayed her friend (Asami), it would be reasonable to expect Asami to feel angry, and for their to be some fall out from that. But there wasn't.

Most of Book 2, Korra was off on her own. Bolin and Mako had split ways over their careers. In Book 3 the team got back together, but again, Korra ended up being off on her own for most of it.

Korra then fucks off for 3 years by herself. Doesn't bother to contact Bolin or Mako. Only Asami. She comes back, and she barely sees Mako and Bolin.

So you tell me. Why would they be friends? Why are they a team? Looking at their overall friendship and time as a team, they barely spent any time together. And there is a lot of personal issues that should have impacted their time together.

Asami pretty much spent zero time with Mako and Bolin in Book 4. And by the very end, Asami is with Korra off on their own. We never see the group together reflecting on the journey they were on together.

Because a team of a bender of each element, a non bender, and the Avatar was in the first series.

Mako should have just joined Bolin and backed Kuvira. Fuuuck it. They weren't going to get anything anyways. Should have reserved their spots next to the Queen in the new world order. They fucked up.

I never heard of this. Did Bryke mention it on tumblr or something a while ago?

Yeah in an interview they did. I think it just got cut.

It really seemed like the split off way too much after season 1 to really be considered a team imo. Also Korra kinda treated them ( mostly Mako) like crap.

i am kinda disappointed we didn't get to see more of Kya this season

Me too. Kinda sad too, since the adults were infinitely more interesting than anyone on team avatar. Also Korra's mom got the shaft.
