Struggling on my 360 means slightly slower speeds that lasts maybe a couple hours max. PSN is always exponentially longer. It's pathetic.

I keep hearing about how MS is just set up better for something like this and it's just not practical for Sony but they sure don't mind taking my money for it all the same.

Well, I am trying to connect to Destiny, it needs PSN to respond saying yes I am a PS+ member and then I can play Destiny on Destiny Servers.

Note that Ps3 does not need this authority check, and yes I can connect my Ps3 to PSN.

Its my simple understanding but maybe it would work

I was able to download games and apply updates, only online play is still down. Sucks that you couldn't get anything working at all.
 
Can't log in to PlayStation Network from any device. Really puts a damper on things when all you want to do is play Child of Light on your Vita and cannot because life is actually very bad.
 
Here there is no way to play online on Ps4.
No problem with the Xbone and WiiU.

Sony, really, just do something serious with your online infrastructure.
 
Is this why i cant remote play from my buddies place, other than a brief moment this morning? No luck last night or today
 
Friend List is up but i'm not able to connect to the Ea servers to play FIFA (EU).


Edit: it just worked now, couple of seconds after posting this.

If it is indeed a DDoS attack, making PSN free would have zero impact on people's connectivity issues, because a DDoS attack clogs up the very route by which you try to even connect to PSN.

It's like if the entire room of people you're in all start screaming at the one person you're trying to talk to. Doesn't matter if that person *wants* to talk to you, they can't hear you.

And this is going on in multiple rooms with multiple people, at different times, with different amounts of people screaming, etc. DDoS is not a single, simple attack vector - it's like a multi-stage tsunami attacking *all* the servers from PSN, to the datacenters PSN is hosted in, to the ISPs that server those datacenters, in multiple regions, etc.

Likely, the reason you could connect to PSN on the PS3, is you just happened to route through a different datacenter at that moment, or you had a lucky break in the attacks, while on PS4, compounded by Xmas units going online, you're not having as much luck hitting that bullseye in the calm of the storm.

I can see 8 friends online and out of 5 tries once I could see the What's New page but every time I go into anything PSN fails.
 
Looks like a non-scheduled maintenance thing. My friends list is up and running (can't accept friend requests atm though) but i can't play online nor access the store.

Anyway, here's what's likely going on:

1. Xmas consoles coming online: massive vector, causes it's own instability in PSN. Normal.
2. DDoS attack: piggybacking off the already massive vector of new consoles, exasperating issues.
3. Random maintenances as Sony tries to mitigate all this crap.

Conclusion: There will be issues. There is nothing anyone can do about it. If it works for you, grats. If not, hang in there.

Yes, we now live in an age where anyone can pay $40 to control a "stress tester" and take down services like PSN, Steam or Xbox Live. Welcome to the Internet. It needs work.

#1 happens every Christmas. Are there confirmed DDoS? That would be a real dickish move.

As confirmed as is can be. Both DDoS tracking maps are showing massive attacks that are consistent with a certain group's MO, likely the same botnets are used each time. There are people claiming responsibility, who have shown in the past they *can* DDoS, and managed to take down PSN, Steam and XBL outside of times when it could be attributed to something else.

So, unless there is evidence suggesting otherwise, all signs point to yes.

This is not a money issue. This is a matter of where an attack is pointed. If the botnet currently attacking PSN switches over to Xbox Live, it *will* show the same issues. So pray it doesn't.

Informed conjecture, but conjecture yes. Still, there is plenty of evidence: Norse and DAM showing large-scale attacks, consistent with a certain group's style, the group is claiming the activity is theirs. So unless you can show me otherwise, I'm leaning towards there being a DDoS aggrevating the existing problem of new consoles coming online.

I'm not defending PSN - the damn thing is swiss cheese, and Sony has proven time and again they have a rather big problem when it comes to server infrastructure. Microsoft, with their server experience, have proven they can weather large storms better than most. But a massive DDoS *cannot* be stopped, and even the best mitigation in the world can only do so much - you will still have end-users with poor experiences as a result.
 
It's clearly DDOS guys.... Especially since Lizard Squad is openly taking credit for it.

No one in their right mind would do maintenance on christmas day. Likewise, I'm pretty Sony and MS predicted the increase in traffic due to christmas sales, so the service being down for so long is not part of that either.

Lizard Squad said days before christmas that they were gonna take Xbox Live down for good... My guess is that they failed on that , and rerouted the bulk of their attack on Sony's servers, since , well, to put it bluntly, they kinda suck.

What pisses me off the most about this is the fact a group of Hackers have nothing better to do with their lives than to deprieve gamers of a service they need to experience games they got for christmas. I mean, if I had the power to DDOS and shut down any server in the world, I would target stuff like Monsanto, big corporations that pollute and destroy the planet, dictatorships, not gaming services that give quality time to users. Talk about using great power only to screw average joes from doing something they enjoy on christmas.

How the grinch stole christmas... More like how the Lizards broke christmas.

Oh well, guess i'm going to steam... Hopefuly it hasn't stopped working too.
