LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

I had to unplug my Ethernet cable in order to even sign in on the xbone. WTF is the point of this? I wanted to play BTB in MCC but that's not going to happen.

They're Nintendo fanboys, and they probably are PC gamers. So fuck everyone else in their minds.
Hope they choke on their dinner.

Do we just get one between us? Cos I fucked up, I just had a lovely meal with my mum, dad and pissed up 93 year old nan. Should I have saved some? I'm confused. Also the only people thinking fuck everyone else here are Lizard squad fucking newt crew. WE are gamers, they are the enemy. How can you enjoy brandy butter when you're so bitter?

Just bought an xbox but I can't update the console... So I can't play games. Is this because of the ddos attacks??
Yes. Seriously, these companies need to do something to prevent this shit.. Makes them look so powerless. And it keeps happening over, and over, and over..... And over. And over.

I only have a fork. I will yell some, though.

Oh. This.

can't sign into xbox, I feel bad for everyone who received a console for Christmas and can't even connect online because of some assholes.

Yeah, I got one for me and my son and we're not all that affected because whatevs, we have a million other games on other systems, but I sure do feel bad for my nephews. Not to mention my brother, because he has to be like "oh, hey, guess you can't play that for a while..."

I wouldn't be so quick as to blame these guys. It's most likely the fact that a lot of people are opening their new consoles today that would likely be the culprit of either system having downtime.

gamertag.net seems down along with MSN plus Xbone servers.

I can however get online with xbox 360 and wii u and 3ds

People are pissed about not being able to play online with their friends on Christmas day/night. Not sure how you have managed to stretch this to day one patches and how retro gaming was the greatest. This has fuck all to do with people coming together and making things better, it's about some immature fucking nobodies with nothing better to do than to try and ruin other peoples day because quite obviously their own Xmas must be hollow and severely lacking.

I think you really wanted to cherry-pick and suggest I was writing something I wasn't.

1) There have been quite a few people in this thread talking about not being able to start up their single-player games or consoles. While I feel bad for everyone in this situation (hell, I can't play either) I mainly feel bad for any kids out there that can't get things like Skylanders to work. For adults and teens, we get over it. We can rant on forums and do other things. As a kid though, that stuff stings. Especially if that was the main (or your only gift) that year.

2) Lot of newer parents grew up with the consoles I listed. Wasn't any type of retro worship. Lot of new console buyers this holidays. Going to be a lot of ignorant people who didn't know this could occur. That is all I was getting at.

3) I assumed my suggestion that they were doing this for a moral good was enough of a parity that people wouldn't take it seriously. My bad. My thought still stands, however, that it is going to be a long time (if ever) for companies to ever be able to combat things such as this, and just when they do a new type of disruption will be created. They can, however, change up practices that can help alleviate these situations.

Aren't there ways to install the initial update via usb stick? Maybe this helps people with brand new xboxes

So, here's a question.

We knew this was going to happen at least for a week ahead of time, why weren't they more prepared for this? Why don't they have tons of point man on the ball to protect against DDOS?

I don't know much about DDOS, but even if they're using rotating IP's to knock the master servers or whatever, why can't they just block all inbound requests? Is it really that hard to monitor traffic?

I feel bad for anyone that got consoles today, they should really be giving away free PSN/XBL extensions this season.

Such a pity, so disappointed.

If they block all inbound requests then they are doing the DDOSers work for them, they attack ip's that have to be public facing so they can't just block all incoming traffic.

How do you protect against it? You can't just stop incoming IPs because no-one would be able to get on then anyway...

The easiest way to stop this would be if Twitter or just their followers, in general, pulled the plug on these guys. They feed off of the attention and retweets.

At some point Twitter, FB or whoever will have to step in and remove their soapbox.

I think this, along with sites like Twitter taking the info they have on them and reporting it to investigators (if they haven't already) is the right thing to do.

They're just going to have to be chipped away at over time, until there's only a few left.

The majority of what you have just posted is reasonable enough but this all still boils down to a collection of idiots trying to ruin Christmas for others. Whilst it would be great for games to launch perfectly out of the gate in this day and age with games more bigger and complex than ever it's just not always possible.

Sadly for the thousands of children who are getting fucked over by these idiots, no company is going to plan ahead when it comes to DDOS attacks.

Yeah, my Nephew wanted to play some games tonight on his new console.

I'd lock them up and throw away the key, or shoot them. I don't care. They're never going to bring any benefit to society anyway.

The surprising thing is the number of people blaming Sony and Microsoft for 'not doing anything about it'. There are going to be support teams at both companies working around the clock due to this, the reality is you can't stop a well orchestrated DDoS easily or effectively.

Condolences to people today who either got a gaming system themselves for Christmas or one for someone else.

Not sure when Sony / Microsoft will be able to get things back up and running again so people can actually enjoy them or a new game they may have gotten.

Anyways hope things get sorted out soon or eventually so we can all have a merry day of gaming.

Yeah, can't play my games for a few hours so let's shoot some kids for being assholes. You're crazy buddy.

Time for SONY and Microsoft to introduce their own internet and connect everyone through a worldwide LAN connection.

Run wires to everyones homes like a cable company does....
