LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

I imagine some people are going to return their consoles after this if they just got one and it's working like shit.

They hire more people to watch redundant and monitor inbound requests and block accordingly as they change IP addresses.

Yeah, because that's totally viable when dealing with millions of legitimate users in addition to thousands/millions of compromised hosts, some of which may in fact be sharing the same public IP address due to things like campus environments.

Me: fuck these guys, I just want to play my GTA V campaign anyways.....

*me realizing my save is tied to my online Xbox live profile*

:/

I just don´t understand why it is impossible to find these kids and lock the up.

Or are they sitting somewhere in China where there is no way to get to them?

As much as I'm pissed I can't log on, the kids that got a console as what's probably their big Xmas gift can't log on and enjoy their xmas day.. So fuck them and I hope their names and addresses get released like last time, cause they are all just a bunch of little bitches..

While obviously these hackers* are to blame, but Sony and especially MS have to understand that this shit happens, and happens continually, and with more frequency these days. This make their decision to have their consoles be so completely connected online seen idiotic, or at least clueless as if they think they're as stable as a utility like electricity.

My cousin just got an XbOne for Christmas, and called me about not being connect and play it. And I had to explain to him how he basically has a brick until Live is back up and running. How is that fair to people who pay good money for a system when it has to rely on something so prone to attacks?

* (I use this term loosely, as these guys just use DDoS attacks and aren't really "hacking" anything)

Same as some people here, just had a Xbone, can't connect to Xbox Live, can't update, can't install games, great.

It would be nice to know if PS4 users have the same problems. Can they install games despite this enormous attack ?

Could it really be the group that I won't name? Or is it the sheer number of consoles trying to connect? I haven't checked the PS4 today, but they had problems yesterday. Fuck these people, get a life.

Why the hell would you require an update to even use the box? Both Sony and Microsoft need to stop charging for online if they can't even protect against this kind of stuff.

If you're installing from a disc, not being able to connect to Live shouldn't hinder anything. Same with PS4.

Both platforms' stores are down.

They gave out the address to attack yesterday.

My brother got an Xbox One for Christmas and can't update the damn thing. Fuck these guys! He was super happy to get playing.

Yeah that is the problem with xbone. That first needed update basically renders it useless without it. Surprised they haven't started rolling out units with the update enabled.

I want to know this too??

Because its impossible to locate them, they arent launching the attacks from their computers, they are paying others to launch the attacks from IPs that are probably 100s of miles away from them, and from there those attacks are forwarded to your grandmas computer that has malware installed on it, so essentially these attacks are coming from the common folk (obviously they have no idea they have malware on their computer, and have no idea they are involved)....

Made sure to get all my day one patches on PSN this morning having seen this thread last night. Noticed the download speed was really slow but still got logged on and got them. Can't log on now at all, hopefully this isn't going to last past the day. You'd worry at christmas if maintenance staff are going to be gone missing until Monday.

Sorry, wrong term, DDoS. The point is that it's not on MS' end, and how many consumers are going to realise that?

I don't know if Sony or MS would want to advertise they are getting DDosed. On one hand it would get a few customers off their back. But would some parents etc understand what is going on? Then it would also bring the people doing the DDosing even more exposure.

Sorry for the GAF members who got a console today. Or gave one to their kids...fucking lizard douches.

If they keep poking like this, I can see some crazy people taking matters into their own hands. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Too late. I'm going to counter-hack them. I just ordered a copy of Building Java Programs: A Back to the Basics Approach - 3rd Edition from Amazon.

im laughing here more that i should be.
..btw i tried to log on Halo 2 Vista and logs just fine. the irony when GFWL works and the rest of Live doesnt.

I still don't believe it, are DDOS attacks really this easy, and hard to fight against? Am I really going to have to watch The Interview on my goddamn Wii U?
It is as easy as running a program. You could defend against it by having an IP time lock out if using too much bandwidth.

should I be glad these guys or anyone else don't give a shit about Nintendo. Gonna download Shantae on Wii U later.

man, if Metro Redux needs an update when I hopefully get the game tomorrow...

Yeah, can't play my games for a few hours so let's shoot some kids for being assholes. You're crazy buddy.

Shooting them is of course going way overboard, but I am quite sick of the "son ragazzi"/"just kids" excuse too. Teens throwing rocks at cars on highway bridges == "ragazzata"/"kids fooling around"... No, just no...

This is not as damaging as that, but getting off on the suffering of others is a sign of much more worrying issues.

Whenever things go down or are brought down it highlights weaknesses in game and console design that should be done better. I'm trying to play Dragon Age: Inquisition and it's a chore, also because Xbox keeps logging me out... Randomly will say "Bye Albatross!" and then I'll get booted back to the title screen of DA:Inquisition. And then, to get into the game, it will try ti "Sync" my cloudsave, whcih it obviously can't do because Xbox Live is down.

So I'll go back into the game, it'll try to sync, which takes 30 seconds, it will eventually say, we can't sync, play off line, so I'll go to do that... It'll get in, I'll start playing for 10 minutes, and then again say, "Bye Albatross!" and I'll get booted back to the title screen.

I'm the only profile on my Xbox, so I can't see any reason why it would ever want to log me out and log into a different profile... It just doesn't make any sense. Like, why would you need to ping Xbox Live to sign in as your profile on your console...

Console makers need to do a better job of creating a 'fail state' when something is down. When the console first boots up or at an interval, it tests your connection, and if things are down, then it goes into a fail state mode: Offline profile, doesn't try to do cloud sync, doesn't try to download updates, etc., then sends an offline signal to the game so that the game just plays it's default offline status. Up and down times are going to happen, and in this day and age, online networks will be brought down by losers like these "hacker" groups. They're inevitabilities and the console and game manufacturers need to do better jobs to provide for a fail state when they inevitably happen.

Settings>Go Offline

Oh, sweet, this actually solved most of my rant up there. Although Dragon Age is still perpetually trying to connect to EA servers... but whatever. Good enough

Well....playing all my games perfectly on my vita and pokemon on my 3ds lol......so glad we updated my little brothers. xbox one last night instead of today

Would love to be in the same physical room as them

Same here. I wish people could find out where they live to get Swatted. Terrible thing to do but if these clowns are gonna play dirty, they should get something their way.

If Sony is real desperate for help, they should try to seek help from US government so these clowns can get tracked down, thrown the book and/or sent to middle east to clean bathrooms for the next 10 years.
