Can someone please explain how in this day and age a few teenagers can still take down the whole infrastructure of major companies so easily. Surely the internet is not that easy and feeble to be just broken like this.

True and 100s of people have reported them to twitter and twitter hasnt taken any action. (all about the dollars).
 
Woo go Nintendo! :p. Downloading pokemon alpha off the eshop with no problems.

Really though, this sucks. I finally have some free time
And wanted to play some GTA with my buddy :/

Twitter is the problem, the abolishment of Twitter, removing the pedestal.. Where would they post then? Facebook? Would it be easier to catch them then?

Because online security is a joke. DDoS attacks have been around forever and they're the really, really, really easy to do. Not even a skilled way of taking down something.

Agencies probably want these guys to communicate. It could help in tracking them down.
Anyway its still pretty fucking annoying.....and the fact that they can succeed with pathetic ddos attacks is even more frustrating

Thats his twitter, he is the "leader". He lives in the UK apparently, but even if you traced him from twitter he is probably using multiple proxies so you still wont get to his real IP. Its basically just layers and layers that make him untraceable, and make the attacks untraceable.

Well he can't be impossible to trace. His username and accent both make it pretty evident that he's from Liverpool or nearby so they at least have a general idea where they should be looking for an IP from. It still wouldn't be exactly easy but he's not much of a genius when it comes to covering his tracks.

It is.

You can't prevent DDoS attacks completely, you can only mitigate them when they occur, though you can protect yourself against them, once botnets are above a certain size no defence will stop it.

The way the Internet communicates needs to be changed to eliminate DDoS attacks as we know them.

A big enough botnet can take anything down.

If you have a nuclear bunker, and someone fires 1 bomb at it, there is a good chance you'll be fine, but when someone fires 10 million of them a minute, your defence is useless. Strange analogy but it's how it works, the amount of requests becomes so large that any pre existing protection will fail.

Botnets are created very easily, used easily and are sold and shared constantly, which is why attention seeking teenagers can very easily do this.
 
good thing these guys leave nintendo alone usually. although my nephews opened the wii u i gave them and downloaded the update yesterday.
 
Pretty pissed that I bought games, downloaded them and forgot to make my white ps4 the primary console. So now I have a bunch of games that I can't play till it comes up and I can activate it. This is ridiculous.

It doesn't matter if this Finest Squad does anything. They already lost. They said nothing would happen and apparently both Sony and MS have had some down time today. I've been lucky enough to play I guess before it happen and when I got home.

But just that it went down... LS>FS
