LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Not that people like this ever really try to rationalize their actions for fear of having their pseudo-logic shredded, but have these hackers ever explained why they attack the end users? I mean we already bought the consoles, we're already paying for online subscriptions so its not the big companies that taking the brunt of the attack, its us, the customer. Their holy war is against the common family. And to pull this shit on Xmas day, when tons of eager kids are sitting down for the best day of the year for gaming is flat-out bitch-made.

Now officially up to 6 people I know that are brand new xbox one owners and have been absolutely crippled by this. It has almost every last one with the exception of one at this point believing that the system itself is somehow at fault, and so they're thinking about returning it and getting a replacement gift altogether for their kids, and it's hard to blame them.

The consistent line you're hearing is them wanting to do something immediately to rectify the disappointed look on their kid's face. Man, I sure as hell hope the pieces of shit responsible for this suffer in the worst way imaginable.

Can someone please explain how in this day and age a few teenagers can still take down the whole infrastructure of major companies so easily. Surely the internet is not that easy and feeble to be just broken like this.

They're renting attack networks from people who are much smarter. Oh and yes, it is this easy to break. If they really wanted to cause trouble they'd ...... Not even going to post it just in case.

Simple: they want a reaction.

Yeah I mean ISIS people have accounts and they aren't even banned.

Twitter (like other social services) is a giant melting pot. It's anything and everything. You can still be a 50 year old man disguised as a 12 year old. There is not a certain certificate providing all this information. Lizard Squad could be working on the side while some one else relays the messages. People follow it and believe whatever they want to believe.

Who knows if this isn't a hoax because the Interview is out now.

Its a better strategy than Chad Wardenning the competition.
If you rearrange the letters of "Lizard Squad", it gives you "Lads Rad Quiz", the name of an upcoming WiiU exclusive. Coincidence? I think not. Brilliant guerilla marketing.

What I'm trying to say is, Half Life 3 confirmed.

Because:

They are kids/teenagers that namedrop ISIS and Al Qaeda while waiting that US makes prostitution legal.

They have no reason. Even said it themselves that it's "for the lulz" translation: we're attention seekers.

I would have been freaking CRUSHED if I got a console as a kid and couldn't play it.

It's great Nintendo services are up but that's only because I doubt they were targeted, or if they were, not seriously. So they don't really deserve any praise on that front. Saying that, last year their servers went down purely from new Christmas consoles so at least they didn't repeat that mistake. That was a sad day, I got the Wind Waker bundle and couldn't play it since it came as a digital code.

Is this the shithead advocating terrorism too? We truly live in a wondrous age where morons like this, rather than doing something good with their skills, decide to ruin things for everyone else in order to get followers on Twitter. And I see he is a rapper too. Some sort of irony there about ruining entertainment for millions.
Do you seriously think a rapper would be wasting his time setting DDoS attacks on video game companies? None of that shit on his twitter account is legit.

They do it because they think it's funny, there's no agenda and no purpose other than upsetting others.

I guess maybe as consumers we should look at how we allowed gaming to rely exclusively on connectivity to the PSN and XBL networks. We probably should have rejected that shit more fiercely from the gate. The fact that I have to connect to Bioware's servers to play Dragon Age offline is horse shit.

All these idiots in Twitter keep RT and Fav their tweets. Just ignore them, all these losers want is attention. Fucking nerds with no life.

"So many idiots, so few bullets..." - Minion

So did these idiots only claim responsibility after psn/xboxlive went down?

I can sign into UK psn fine, had trouble earlier but just put it down to the influx of new users today.

I could play Inquisition offline yesterday (PS4)

Imagine if Microsoft apologists had gotten their way a year and half ago and they kept the always-online DRM system in place.

I got you a black brick for Christmas, Timmy!

I don't care about anything on a personal level of this underage dirtbag and his cohorts. I just found it funny that his is attacking one form of the entertainment industry and trying his hand at another. But yeah, he probably isnt one, or he might wish he was, whatever. The point is, I hope they get brought down and put in jail for a long, long period of time.

Why is Microsoft not doing something about Lizard Squad? I'm sure that Microsoft has his own really true hackers who should be able to find out who these Lizard Squad kids are!

My XB1 was still a brick. Couldn't use YouTube, internet explorer, etc. All my saves are synced to the cloud

Imagine all those gloating over the fact that live can't be taken down, its just shitty PSN.

Well here we are, these assholes are ruining Christmas day for many kids with either console.

No ddosing assholes, no problems (to this extent).

So this is the twitter account that joked about bombings and 9/11, right? And they're still allowed to post.

Want to say I can't believe it, but that'd be a lie.

You'd think there would be decent ways to defend against DDOS attacks in 2014. :/

There are ways but little appetite to implement them.

One way would be for ISPs to implement port blocking by default for anything other than web proxies and popular game services/etc. Botnets need a control framework, one popular method is an IRC connection. Make people sign into their account to remove the blocks. The vast majority of the kinds of people who constantly pick up viruses, won't even know the filtering is there because CNN and Facebook still work.

Another way that would make a significant difference is sadly illegal. DDoS is possible because of botnets. Botnets primarily exist because of malware written for Windows. If you had some of your own malware that tried to spread via existing infection back doors for a week, and then basically killed the machine so it booted into a 'Your computer was full of viruses and it has been disabled, please take it to a professional to have your files safely copied off' screen, you'd see the sizes shrink. It's been punted around as an idea for years but nobody has had the guts to do it yet.

The open and unfiltered internet is going to end because of people like this. And at this point I'd have to begrudgingly support that.

Yup, hopefully this puts some perspective into those people. XbL is not imune.
