LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Imagine if Microsoft apologists had gotten their way a year and half ago and they kept the always-online DRM system in place.

I got you a black brick for Christmas, Timmy!

In all fairness it would've only become an issue if you couldn't connect for more than 24 hours. New owners not being able to update would have been affected regardless.

You gotta be sick fuck to ruin Christmas for people.

Really sad shit.

Yep.

And by tomorrow, Xbl/PSn will be back up and people's consoles will be working again, life will be back to normal, but these guys will still be living the same lonely existences that causes them to lash out for attention. So there's that.

They may know what if feels like to interrupt PSN and Xbox Live. But, know what a vagina feels like. Check and Mate.

Not that people like this ever really try to rationalize their actions for fear of having their pseudo-logic shredded, but have these hackers ever explained why they attack the end users? I mean we already bought the consoles, we're already paying for online subscriptions so its not the big companies that taking the brunt of the attack, its us, the customer. Their holy war is against the common family. And to pull this shit on Xmas day, when tons of eager kids are sitting down for the best day of the year for gaming is flat-out bitch-made.

Maybe they plan on selling their services to help plug the holes?

Nah.

so what is now their motivation about these newest hacks?

There is no benevolent reason. Last time they were telling kids if they wrote "Lizard Squad" on their forehead and tweeted the picture back to them, they would let them back online. Of course stupid kids actually wrote it on their forehead and tweeted back pictures. They just like the attention.

Holy shit, sick burn mate. You should do standup.

Also, what a terrible thing to do today of all days (I guess that was the point). Hopefully it's up by the end of the day.

What a bummer to all those that just opened a PS4 or Xbone for Christmas and now they likely can't even use them because both are basically hamstrung without updates to the system and games. I'll get over it, but what a kill joy for those trying to play it with family for the first time on Christmas Day.

There are ways but little appetite to implement them.

One way would be for ISPs to implement port blocking by default for anything other than web proxies and popular game services/etc. Botnets need a control framework, one popular method is an IRC connection. Make people sign into their account to remove the blocks. The vast majority of the kinds of people who constantly pick up viruses, won't even know the filtering is there because CNN and Facebook still work.

They could write their software to run on any port, including those services you listed. Besides that being a terrible thing for any ISP to do, blocking all ports except for common services wouldn't really do anything to stop the described attacks.

Yup, hopefully this puts some perspective into those people. XbL is not imune.

You were one of "those people", just earlier in this same thread.
I'm pretty sure taking out XBL wouldn't be nearly as easy as PSN. Doubt they'll actually be able to do it.

And besides, XBL already fought off a couple attacks from these same guys.
Unfortunately today there are a lot of new consoles going live and staff is on vacation.

I wanted to watch "The Interview" with the family, but the Xbox One doesnt even let me use any of my apps either. I can barely play any games.

So if I were to go to Walmart and buy some games (because I just got a PS4 for Christmas) could I download the patches and play them? Probably gonna pick up Dragon Age, TLOU, and maybe GTA V.

Sucks for the people who can't game, sucks for the people forced to spend Christmas working to fix the issue. You know what the worst part is? Childish fucks like these with hacking skills are the ones hired by companies to work their security. They'll all get a slap on the wrist followed by lucrative employment.

Xbl has had issues the last few years, some worse than others. Sucks for kids but does point out a stupid flaw. Consoles shouldn't need the internet play games. Stuff should work out of the box.
